THIS VIDEO HAS BEEN WIDELY MISINTERPRETED! When he says, "Yes I have a problem" he is not saying that he has a problem with the drill sergeant. He was referring to how the Drill Sergeant said "You're clenching your lips, you got a problem!?" , his problem was that he has an overbite - so he has to clench his lips because of that
@eddy06034 жыл бұрын
The drill sergeant dont give a shit seems like you're foreign to the Military life, all you are able to do is to say "YES SIR" and do your damn job. You're not there to complain, even if you have a problem. @wankuscrankus77558 жыл бұрын
no, you do not use braces to correct overbite. overbite is simply the jaw being small. what you use is that situation are rubber bands to pull the jaw forward. if it is severe and you are still growing, you use a Herbst appliance. if you have passed the growing stage and your overbite is severe enough, they break your jaw and reset it. this is simple information you can find on the Internet. simple logic would state braces do not and cannot be used to treat overbite. the only thing braces do are adjust the positioning of your teeth.

+jiluvtx ....really? you didn't look at the rest and made a comment at first glance. Great Detective work, if you would look at the rest you'll understand. HOWEVER it doesn't matter what you are in the military, you have to start somewhere and that means getting trained in Martial Arts. Martial Arts comes in all shapes, sizes, and styles. Military Personnel are trained in mixed art. Thus this means they know just enough for defense. A Master, of any style, can wipe the floor. To some yes, but it is also mental conditioning. The whole point of boot camp is to push the soldier physically, mentally, and emotionally, to see if they have what it takes to survive combat. A lot of times it is over the top and highly degrading, but it does serve an overall purpose.
@josiahlee198210 жыл бұрын
SmokeRingsPipeDreams The overall purpose of the conditioning is to be able to observe think and react under high stress situations. Most guys out of high school have never been yelled at like a DS can deliver. Thus the high stress. Being able to think and react (respond to simple questions) shows the level that they will resort back too. At this point in basic training it's the equivalent of a deer in headlights..blank stare, lack of ability to formulate words or at least a complete thought, We as people fall back to our lowest level of training we have mastered under high stress situations not the highest level we have trained at. It is a conditioning of mind and body to respond, react, and be efficient and effective while performing under these shock treatment type of situations. It makes people want to be somewhere else doing anything else just like bombs and bullets going off all around you...see the similarities?
@SmokeRingsPipeDreams10 жыл бұрын

I don't know what people are getting so worked up about, this is how you prepare someone for combat. If you can't handle a little screaming like daddy used to give you, then you aren't prepared for combat. Put aside the stupid conspiracy theories and rebellious idiocy that people spew about the military, how it works, and what they do. Forget about what the fighting is about or who we are fighting and for what reason, aim those complaints at the government, they're the ones who make those decisions, not the men and women who join the military. This is how you get someone ready for a battle, plain and simple. BTW, I'm laughing at all the people saying that they'd punch this guy or talk back and stuff. Just try and act out against a DI. Go ahead, try it.
@TStaroverov10 жыл бұрын
Wait, are you saying that the ones that go into the military ( in other words the soldiers ) are not the decisive ones at the end? The ones that ACTUALLY PERFORM the tasks that they have been put upon? I'm not saying the government isn't playing a role.. they do, they are indeed the decision makers but the ones that are even MORE RESPONSIBLE are the ones that again.. ACTUALLY PERFORM these actions. Don't point the fingers at the government, we, as a people are the ones making the decisions, we are the ones that are morally responsible for choose the right action or not.
@OckhamAsylum10 жыл бұрын
AkumaXIII Not really. For one thing, it is highly unlikely that a soldier will be faced with a situation in which they would feel their moral compass is being blatantly challenged (Like one of those Hollywood situations in which they'll be ordered to shoot a child or something). Even in those rare situations, the soldier sadly won't have much say in the matter, more often than not. You can't just disobey orders when you feel that they don't line up with your moral compass, they court martial you for that sort of thing. And in the even rarer instances when there are no orders and the solider must make a judgement call, I can assure you, our people over there do what they feel is best and face the consequences if it turns out it's not. What I'm trying to say is that the solider has such little say in the grand scheme of things. All you can do if you want to avoid being ordered by the higher ups, the ones who are really responsible for all of the bad decisions and actions taken over there, is not join. I'm just saying, it's not like Apocalypse Now over there. Soldiers aren't making their own personal little kingdoms and killing whoever they want. I'd bet good money that everything wrong that's been done in the ME is the fault of the government and their monetary-minded whims.
@snakemast6610 жыл бұрын
i think you have a point, but one can easily handle a war type situation without drill sergeant harassment. the gurkhas actually do not have this type of training, yet they are regarded as possibly the best modern day soldiers around.
@OckhamAsylum10 жыл бұрын
kcarmichael I don't know, does that guy in the video look like he'd survive five seconds in a fight? People like him are the reason we've got drill sargents to begin with. Some armies use drill sargents for a sort of psychological training, some just use the physical training itself, and others beat the living crap out of their soldiers to prepare them (Isn't that how the Russian's train their Spetsnaz?) Every country has their methods, and considering America's standing as the leader in military might (whether or not you see that as good or bad), I'd say that the idea of drill instructors is not a bad one. Besides, I'd much rather go through basic with a DS hollering at me than getting tortured to prepare for war. I'm just saying, considering that they're training you for furious, hellish combat, I'd say a little angry shouting is getting off lucky. They could have decided that beating you with a burning 2x4 was how you prepared for war.

Drill Instructors are not supposed to be nice or up to the standards of Emily Post when they are training a service member.If you think that our enemies won't bring up the overbite issue, think again. Drill Instructors are not the bullies of the playground, nor are they out to wreck someone's day or future. When out of uniform, they are normal people with lives and normal everyday occurrences. Two weeks ago after a meeting of AA here in San Diego, a DI had locked his keys in his car. And like everyone else, he was looking for a wire coat hanger to unlock his door. He and I finally got the door open. He had his DI headgear in his car and I had a brief chuckle about his predicament. He was actually a nice guy in that situation. I am thankful that DIs like him (and DI Althouse, a mean, though 5'3" FEMALE)got me through basic training and taught me the things I needed to know. Yes, on the job they are assholes, but are trained to be that way. All you whining non veterans should shut the hell up about things you don't understand. And for you posters who make nasty remarks about things, at least have the balls to post a photo of yourself so people know who's ass to kick. CC

you can see in the video that the army drill sergeant didn't appreciate being called, sir, which is what marine drill instructors are called. sir in the army is for officers, not nco's. also every marine i know referred to basic training as boot camp. i was army and we called it basic training. the difference in uniforms between army DS and marine DI are pretty obvious, too.
@CoelhoSports9 жыл бұрын
nguyen danny i think the reasoning behind it is they are conducting immersion training in courtesy, but that is what all services do in boot camp. once they leave boot, no service calls nco's sir anymore so they aren't training for the military when they do that. they are more shaping them mentally for what they think a marine should be holistically during training, like mental conditioning. you are not a marine until you survive the gauntlet, so anyone who is not a recruit is sir or ma'am to you. you have no identity until you earn it and refer to yourself as "the recruit". in army boot you are "private", even though you are just a trainee. i think it mostly comes down to tradition, though. army and navy are universal and cover everything. marines are supposed to be an invasion force, although their missions have expanded over time, so they have their separate traditions, and i'm sure they have brass at the pentagon who closely study every little thing trainees do and for what reasons.
@Hunne23039 жыл бұрын
surely some taliban etc. would make making fun of his overbite his #1 top priority while being at a fight...most certainly...yes...ffs, americans are way beyond retarded and then AA? is it what I think it is...´nuff said...your words in the later part of your post speak a clear language...

Second thing that would happen is you would go to military prison because that’s assault on a drill SGT. When you finally get released from jail you will receive a dishonorable discharge from the military. So basically you won’t be getting any type of employment the rest of your life because that will follow you everywhere. Why do you think they ask on all applications about military service and what discharge you got? Also this type of training is done for a reason and is very effective I went through it at the same base and served 10 years went to Iraq no issues. But I don’t expect regular civilians to understand this because it’s a different type of culture. And at the end of the day this training is what will keep you alive on the battlefield

The Romans yelled at their Legionaries... its not just yelling, it's a calculated part of a long standing and extremely psychologically effective training process that's proven indispensable for centuries, even millennia. Additionally, this is a small clip taken out of context so you're extremely naive if you honestly believe yelling is the only tool in the drill-instructing "tool-box" or that they're doing it simply for "shits-and-giggles." Perhaps you should actually look into the philosophy behind drill-instructing, you might gain some valuable insight as to why yelling is such a valuable component of the process. Do you honestly expect them to ask "pretty-please?" This is the ARMY, not the Boy-Scouts, lives are at stake and when discipline isn't instilled properly, the chain of command breaks down and good soldiers die. I hope people think carefully before making such presumptuous comments regarding this clip.
@ImpCom93310 жыл бұрын
"Americans." hmm, every military in the world does this training. Some of them do it harder. "Abusive Sadists." Far from. Yelling at you is to get you to operate under pressure. If you are in the military and you come out soft, when you hit the ground you will be soft. It's why it's called being "Born again Hard." Drill Sergeants want nothing more than your safety after you get out and your preparation for what you will be doing. In a way, it's parenting. As for sadism, I don't think any of them "get off" doing this. None of them started out as Drill Sergeants. They all went through the same conditioning. The sad part is I pity the guys who become Drill Sergeants because of the negative reputation they have. Is it hard if you're going in? Yeah. It's a hard road. If you're not able or capable of going into the military, or you don't want to, then Don't. If you have qualms about the politics or you don't support what they're doing, fine, then Don't. But shut the fuck up. These guys going in are getting trained hard so they can fight hard. And these guys are not "inhuman killing machines" or drones, they're people just like you, with interests just like you. What they have is a calling and conditioning. This conditioning makes them capable of doing the work they have to do, and it keeps them alive. At least have some respect for the people doing their service and job, a job that you're not capable of doing, that they, in doing so, keep you safe, keep you free so you can run your mouth like a piece of shit. Otherwise, do me a favor and vacate to a nice Muslim State with Sharia Law in place. We'll see how long you last running your mouth off.

When I was in basic training we had to wear these ribbons on our epalettes. With one look at the color anyone on base could tell what company you belonged to. I was in Company A and we had silver ribbons. One day I forgot to wear my ribbon but I didn't realize my mistake and my Drill Sgt put me through the steps till I figured it out. I kept telling her that I loved Company A and she kept telling me that she didn't believe me. After this repeated exchange I would have confessed to anything and when I finally figured out I was up the creek because I didn't have a silver ribbon I confessed that maybe my enthusiasm wasn't what it should be. That day I became my own little company. I followed everyone else and did everything else after Company A had finished. I ran after them, I ate after them, I stood at attention behind them, I marched after them. In a way it was funny BUT I never forgot my ribbon after that.. If you think that's humorous, my Drill Sgt hated to hear you say "ok" ....one girl couldn't stop saying it even when she had to do ten push ups every time she said it....after the 30th time the whole company groaned to hear "Is that ok Drill Sergeant?" We even felt sorry for the Drill Sergeant. We all knew she had to stick with it or the girl's vocabulary would always include the hated "OK" Yeah, basic training was a trip. I joined the air force willingly... didn't give a rats ass I just liked airplanes... did some free lance soldiering when I was young... I went to a few gunfights where I felt like some particularly evil human beings were in need of opposition.

Drill sergeants are suppose to be like that in order to expose the soldiers to stressful combat situations (like in Iraq) or natural disasters (like Hurricane Katrina). In those situations, it's not like people will be saying, "would you kindly move your wounded combat to safety whilst being shot at by those North Koreans?". In the British Army, they punch recruits for special forces training and those who fall after being punch are removed and in the Turkish Army, they fire directly at you. I underwent such disciplinary training while studying Armed Eskrima training in the Philippines, I got injured and I had to inflict the same injuries to other students/recruits.

Let me remind you that the money spent on the military was $612,500,000,000 of last year. Bit of an overkill

Btw, braces don't fix an overbite, it's called a retainer. But I guess they don't teach you stuff like that in the military.
@patrickmarshall572610 жыл бұрын
I used to have an overbite and im not sure if this is what you call a retainer in America but i had something called a block. It was two pieces of plastic and wire and one part clipped on to the upper jaw and the other on the lower. The pastic was shaped so it wouldn't allow me to move my jaw backwards whatsoever. Was just wondering if that's what you call a retainer
@kitpalmer158310 жыл бұрын
yeah, knowing what a retainer is makes you too smart for the military.
@shrapnelface597810 жыл бұрын

suilekelly That's what they said to me because they didn't think I'd grow much more (i was 6foot and 13 at the time) so they brought the retainer wouldn't work
