Thank goodness for this video! I just returned from a language class. A group in the class began loudly discussing how in England, Doctors are now required to ask everyone if they might be pregnant regardless of whether they looked masculine or feminine (whether this is true or not, I have no idea). They loudly brayed about how UTTERLY RIDICULOUS this notion was. I wondered whether I, a cis woman, should chime in and ask them why such a question might offend them. Is it somehow... shameful to own a womb? Is it a bad thing to be compared to a female, or to be seen in any way as feminine? What, pray tell fellows, is so bad about being seen as anything other than "man manly man man" for the five seconds it would take a Doctor to ask this important medical question that might affect the treatment some people can receive? It had the same logic than racism, homophobia... You're different than me, so that means I'm better than you and I don't need to accept you. The logic is that, it's irrational obviously, that's why we use the word phobia to define it "irrational fear or hate". Historically it has some rootes in religion and conservative causes, cause it defy the norm and how things should be. Cause if someone can be a trans, that make you question what makes a somone the gender they are, biology? Culture? What traits? Isn't god ho define it?

Transphobia and homophobia is very irrational and always based on "what if" scenarios that never happen. 25:39 The reason transphobes attack Elliot so much is because when he was still presenting and identifying as a woman, a lot of guys found him very attractive (and like the girl next door), so I'm guessing that now that he has come out as a trans man and has transitioned, the men who found him attractive (not all, obviously) are doing their best to dehumanize him, so they won't find him attractive anymore, and so everyone else will know they don't find him attractive anymore. With the anti-seatbelt thing, a large part of the argument was that "injuries from car accidents increased when people were forced to wear seatbelts". It's one of those situations where people can easily twist facts to tell a different story, in this case "seatbelts cause injuries"

Can confirm. As an Uber driver currently, I'd say about 80% of passengers don't buckle up. I had one sit up front just last night where my car has a weight sensor- I asked him to buckle so we didn't have to hear the car scream for 15 minutes straight. Dude did this weird contortionist thing to pass the belt behind himself and click in it without it being over him at all. While holding things. So he dropped them. And it took way longer and way more effort than just buckling it properly. It's insanity.

@animeartist888 While there are definitely some who no doubt do that because they don’t like or want to use a seat belt, there are probably more than a few who do it out of general caution of getting into a car with a stranger 😅 one less barrier to unlocking and opening the door and rolling out if something goes awry.

Oh, fun fact! The Alex Jones "they're turning the friggin frogs gay" meme comes from Alex Jones reading something about frogs changing gender. So, the original meme is already transphobic.

Yes, there was an anti-seatbelt movement. kinda tapered out in the 80s. There was a whole string of commercials about the consequences. I remember one with a woman saying she didn't want to wear a seatbelt because it would wrinkle her dress. cut to her in a wheelchair with a vacant look on her face as a caregiver is adjusting her dress, commenting how we don't want it to be wrinkled. Very heavy handed. but, it was the 80s. also was an anti-motorcycle-helmet movement.

But by trying to insert herself in conversations and “debates” she knows nothing about, she chose to absolutely destroy her legacy. For as long as people remember who she is, there will always be an asterisk next to her name with a terf footnote and she has no one to blame but herself. 500 years from now her biography will read “popular author of the 21st century fictional series, Harry Potter, and outspoken opponent of transgender rights. She faced a number lawsuits later in life due to her vocal attacks on minority groups”. Am I am petty enough to hope that haunts her.

@tealkerberus7484 ай бұрын
Valid. Genderfluid isn't "switching genders" - feeling and expressing one and then another is just normal for being genderfluid. Like a lilypad that sways one way and another in a shifting current, the root of your identity isn't moving. I hope your parents get to accepting this soon. They're missing out on so much while they resist reality!

The bathroom thing as someone who is gender non conforming is so frustrating. I won't use gendered bathrooms. I'd rather hold it. Because if I go into the men's, I have an obviously larger chest. I also have a beard and a masculine voice, so am worried about going into the women's. Just why can't people pee?!
@tealkerberus7484 ай бұрын
My local city replaced all their old gendered public toilet blocks with a new design: fully ambulant, left access ambulant, right access ambulant, fully accessible. All four doors open onto a verandah that is visible to passing traffic, so if we ever get one of those weirdos that hides in public toilets waiting to assault people, there's a fair chance someone walking or driving past will see it happen. And if four cis women or four cis men arrive to use the toilets at the same time, we don't have two people waiting in a queue while two toilets go unused because they're the "wrong gender." The best trans-inclusive upgrades are the ones that make the world better for cis people too. Those are the ones that will get the most support and be replicated most widely. I hope your local authorities catch on soon.
