Probably. Depends on how much work they put in it imo. If the game is already super long, and they have to re-balance stuff and add enemy placements and weapons, I get that it is a lot of work. And maybe it is better to have that as DLC than not at all. It's much easier to add NG+ to God of War or other 20h games.

NG+ is pretty much pointless for this game. It's 100 - 150 hours for NG if you do it all and NG+ gives nothing except maybe some faster leveling at high levels, which are again, pointless. I know it is said in this video that you can jump into this game fine, but almost every fan of the franchise is saying otherwise and at the least need to have played Like a Dragon (Yakuza 7). I want to play the franchise but I don’t have the time and commitment to go through all of the games in a short amount of time just to play Infinite Wealth since I really wanna play this one. So I’m really wondering how your experience is with it, do you feel like you can mostly follow the narrative of this game, or are there so many callbacks to the other games tied to the main narrative that you feel lost storywise?

@@SfinxVid I mean the main plot of the game is easy enough to understand without any prior knowledge of the franchise beforehand, but I wouldn't recommend Infinite wealth as your first LAD/Yakuza game given this is both a follow up to Yakuza Like a Dragon and the supposed send off for the previous main protagonist and includes many references to past events and characters from all previous entries. I highly recommend that you start with either Yakuza 0 or Like a Dragon (also known as yakuza 7) as your introduction to the franchise, 0 if you're interested in the older games as well as the newer titles or LAD/7 if you only want the newer stuff/Ichiban. At the very least playthrough 7 before Infinite wealth so that you don't spend half the game going "who's this" and "wait, what happened" the game is big enough as it is and it'll be harder to enjoy when your trying to play catch up for the entire game. TLDR: To get the most out of Infinite wealth you'd likely need to play through most of the main series titles, obviously that's quite an undertaking so I'd recommend at least playing Like a Dragon first in order to get an understanding of the franchise and the characters. Its a phenomenal game so don't feel the need to rush through it just to get to infinite wealth since its not like Infinite wealth is some live service game that'll be dead in a year, I promise it'll still be there if/when you finish LAD.

If you really are itching for a crash course hack, you can watch the story summary on KZbin. Check out the videos for 0-7 from LaMuertaBlanca. However, if you can spare 10 hours to play only one game. After watching the videos, please play Like a Dragon Gaiden, because it a shorter side story game. It ties the stories together and gives you a chance to play as Kiryu. Trust me you will be so hyped and feel ready for Infiniti Wealth. You can always go back an play thr main series once you get hooked.

I think the devs did a good job making it feel like a good enough stand-alone game from a narrative perspective. in other words the glimpses I get of events from prior titles is, generally speaking, good enough to provide a reasonable amount of color for me as someone who is just now experiencing anything pertaining to this franchise. I'm sure there's plenty more I'm missing since I didn't play any of the other games but personally I'm okay with that. Like you, I just don't have the time to play through the entire series in order to fill in all the blanks, but I also don't really care to do that anyways. The storyline is intriguing enough to play through Infinite Wealth, absolutely, but any gray areas in the storyline that I may notice are not bothersome enough to really dampen my experience. All-in-all I'm having a blast with Infinite Wealth. The story is solid; the characters are alluring and well-rounded; the wealth of content is staggering; and the gameplay itself is quite polished. I can easily see myself putting 100-150 hours into this title, though that's subject to change once I hit "end game."

I'm playing it at the moment, and this game is EVERYTING I love about Japanese storytelling. I just went on Ichibans first ever date, and I'm assuming he's either 1) Bipolar or 2) An alien trying to blend in as a human being. Everything feels crazy over the top, incredibly surreal and I absolutely adore it. It's like the developers are just laughing at me, going "Bet you didn't see that one coming, did ya?" and no. Paid ng+ isn't a flaw within the game's systems, it's an optional feature, so it's technically not a negative. I'm against paywalling ng+ obviously but you can't rly criticize a game for an optional feature, it doesnt seem fair.

Sure, a lot of people will only have 1 save file, but for the people who want to experience the game in other ways, should they be required to pay extra for more save files? No, absolutely not, because those types of games have multiple save files included by default because it's common sense and the right thing to do. There is absolutely no valid reason NG+ is locked behind a paywall.

@@CyberSpeek I agree with you I'm just saying that usually a negative in a videogame is gameplay, story or performance related stuff, not microtransactions, because microtransactions aren't necessarily about videogames, it's pretty much a gambling method that's been implemented into some videogames at this point. Like yea it's a negative thing, but not necessarily a con/flaw of the game, just a scammy method for the developers to gain more money.

​@@CyberSpeek Infinite Wealth has multiple save files, that is not a good comparison. Plenty of games don't have NG+, most games with NG+ are short or medium games. Witcher 3 just adds enemy health but does NG+ really add anything? Maybe in Infinite Wealth you have new weapons and enemy placement.

I am sorry Luke, while I really enjoy your channel and your take on things.. you are doing a disservice with this review. Sega is trying to push a 'new norm' with this title, locking features like New Game Plus behind the higher priced editions and that is a reprehensible policy. I am disappointed that you don't address this and are recommending a title that potentially sets a damaging precedent to the gaming industry going forward. I get that it's a good game, and that's awesome, but Sega needs to be called out on this behavior. At the very least you should at least inform your viewers of what they are encouraging when they purchase this title. Unless people get the word out, this game will be obviously successful and other developers will take the attitude of 'oh, we can charge extra for this now? Cool.. lets do it.' That's bad for all of us.

Watching from Honolulu, it definitely takes liberties but it captures the feeling in the over the top Yakuza way for sure. That's not downtown though that's Waikiki, like being in the Vegas strip. Works perfectly for the Yakuza vibes.

I imagine that this game is confusing to play in English, because there are characters that actually speak English in the game, so you are going to be confused to when the characters are actually speaking English or pretend Japanese. Also I have not liked the English karaoke songs from what I have heard. The game is amazing so far. Don't play it in English though. If you have bad eyesight like me, you can increase the text size to pretty big unlike the last game. Thank you SEGA for adding that. Who needs GTA 6 when you can play Infinite Wealth.

Yong Yea as kiryu just ruins the dub for me tbh. But I'm a long time fan, beat every mainline game, so I prefer the Japanese anyway. The dubs can never capture that super badass, dramatic way Japanese tough guys talk

Everyone talking about NewGame+ all of these previews were scheduled out in a way that content creators didn't know about the DLC stuff until after they made these previews. Of course that's scummy from the marketing team but the KZbinrs already committed to making the videos so they legally can't not make the video, and it was impossible for them to know about NG+.
