Some have streamlined his mash recipe by using egg whites from hard boiled eggs that way you don't have to babysit the egg whites like he did in his original recipe
@ChrisCookingNashvilleАй бұрын
This also traps the sulfur gases inside the shell and will lead to a stronger egg smell and flavor in the final product, which is why I don’t recommend doing that. “Babysitting” the eggs has a purpose.

I also made a version of this back when you first came out with your mashed potato recipe. It was great! Ash, I also didn't know Sheppard's pie was made with lamb. I never heard of Cottage pie. My mother called it something different growing up. Not sure why, but her family called it China pie. At least that is what is sounded like. They all have a thick Italian accent, so not sure what they really meant to call it.

Now I'm trying to remember if the "Shepherd's Pie' I've gotten in Irish pubs (in the U.S.) were beef or lamb. I think they were beef, but it's been so long I don't remember. 🤔
@gullinvargАй бұрын
A couple of the Irish pubs I used to go to have closed, but Erin's Snug has "Shepherd's Pie" that's ground beef, lamb, gravy, vegetables and topped with Colcannon. Colcannon is an Irish dish that's a mix of mashed potatoes and cabbage.
@ChrisCookingNashvilleАй бұрын
Love colcannon. I’ve got some friends in Ireland and love the dishes they’ve shared.
@gullinvargАй бұрын
@@ChrisCookingNashville the reason I tended to go to Irish pubs was to get Bangers and Mash or Shepherd's Pie for St Paddy's Day. 😁 After I went Keto in 2019, I made cauliflower mash Colecannon with corned beef. Corned beef is more Irish American than Irish, but then again so am I. 😁 If I remember correctly, Irish bangers tend to have carby fillers (oatmeal maybe?).

@Chris Cooking Nashville can you make ahead of time and freeze it? If so do we bake before or after taking out of freezer?
@ChrisCookingNashville2 сағат бұрын
Hey there! I haven’t tried myself but I think conceptually it makes sense it should work no problem. I’d suggest baking right before serving so freeze first and then bake later. You’ll get a better final product. Thaw then bake or if you bake frozen you’ll probably need to reduce the oven by 50 or more degrees and increase baking time. Not exactly sure how much unless I experiment though.
