Thank you Lillie for saying these things. I have been following the carnivore community for over a year but never 100% strict for more than a week at a time. I like to grow a garden and I eat things from my garden. I also got into fermenting and make my own sauerkraut, pickles, salsa etc… and have a little often. This seems to have helped me a lot. Thanks again.

I did it strictly for about 4 months and had amazing success, dropping over 60#. I got mostly where I wanted to go, and now I'm happy to do it slower and just maintain. I'm still largely carnivore, but more accurately carnivorish. I told my wife to start that I'm not going to do anything that I'll just grow to resent, and that means I'm giving it a break for major holidays. I've also added some berries with the yogurt and will grill up some onions and veggies that are in season... 2-3x per week. I LOVE my tomatoes. I may not be losing at the same rate, but I feel better, don't resent what I'm doing, and I enjoy life. Still losing about a pound a week with 20ish left to go, but that's good enough. Good isn't the enemy of perfect, particularly since I don't think there is a perfect or if there is, it's subjective.

Thank you, for your honesty. I never counted grams; I just started the carnivore program on 5/15/23, right after they put six (6) stints in me. I'm Italian, so no pasta, bread, or ice cream was like getting tied to a post and whipped. I was 240 pounds then, and I lost 30 pounds in 6 weeks. Before the carnivore and weight loss, I couldn't squat down to get things out of the cupboard without knee pain; I had terrible leg cramps while lying down; bad heartburn; itchy skin; I would frequently wake up with vomit in my mouth; I slept 3 to 4 hours a night; and I craved sugar. Now, after almost one year, I take no medicine; sugar doesn't control me. My blood pressure is normal, I sleep like a child (5-7 hours a night), I do my squats every day, I walk my golf rounds carrying my bag, I can get in and out of my fishing kayak, I never have leg cramps, heartburn or vomiting during sleep. Recently, I started incorporating milk, very little raw sugar, Sunday sauce, and homemade bread into my diet, and holiday sweet treats. I have noticed I feel extra full longer when eating them. I also get leg cramps and heartburn after eating sweets and fight the sugar cravings again. I've gained five (5) pounds too, which I can't lose. So, I've limited myself to a lower carbohydrate frequency again, and everything is back to normal. Oh, I drink two large cups of coffee every day with heavy cream only; that's always been non-negotiable. The important things to consider are personal. Once you eliminate the unhealthy foods and feel the difference, you'll know the difference between what your body needs and want you want. Once you determined your addictions that are causing you discomfort, coming off the wagon slightly is a train ride that speeds up. Now I understand what an alcoholic, or drug addict, goes through.

I think you gave her wise advice. I've realized that these people that are so into carnivore like Dr Berry etcetera actually have very inefficient and innately bad digestive systems and hence they cannot eat anything but meat. The rest of us are born with innately good digestive systems. WE simply need to avoid processed food and excessive eating of carbs. Dr Barry gave his blood test on one video and he's really was lacking in certain areas and he tried to fudge around it but on that video his skin was so red which he says is due to his heritage. BUT I have the same heritage and I don't have his red skin. He lacked vitamin c and I think that's a serious lack and he refuses to take supplements so his diet leaves with NO vitamin c and his body is NOT able to function at an optimum level and his skin is completely red which probably means it's inflamed. I think you were wise to listen to your body and to read the Bible and to understand that just like all the creatures on the Earth are God's creatures so all the creations on the Earth are God's creations and they are good. 🌙🌘🌚🌈☘️🌹❤️

I've been in healthcare 30+ years in integrative functional medicine and a couple of things pop out here. First of all, your sleep issues when doing all carnivore is related to insulin. Do a fasting insulin blood test to see where you are. If it is below 3, then you need more GOOD carbs. Also, when your insulin levels get that low it puts your body in fight or flight mode and over time you can see a drop in cortisol. I also recommend doing a serum cortisol and DHEA-S test first thing in the morning. If the DHEA-S comes back low, then your adrenals are suffering which is why you are experiencing the skin/scalp issues. It is most likely ALL stress related. Some people get it and some don't. I have seen some people wake up in a full blown panic attack due to this. Also, if your ferritin is still high, then donate blood to get it down to around 100-150ng/mL as that can cause extreme fatigue. Iron is tricky, because if it is too low it will present with the same symptoms as too high. If cortisol is low, then adding in OR keeping the carbs will help bring it back up. Taking licorice extract can help with this as well considering you don't have blood pressure issues. Lastly, your gut microbiome changes when doing carnivore. When you added in the carbs you did NOT have the gut microbiome needed for proper digestion. A good quality digestive enzyme that includes Betaine HCL with every meal would have helped tremendously. Anyways, this is for informational purposes only so be sure to check with your physician for advice on the information I presented to see what he or she thinks you can do. Otherwise, best of luck!

Lillie, I'm Zeke. I love this video. Your honesty is wonderful, and I think that it's exactly what the community needs regarding nutrition. I started a Carnivore diet almost a year ago and the list of things that it cleared up for me was amazing. So many things that my doctors told me that I would have for the rest of my life and just needed to manage them with meds. I was pretty strict "Carnivore" for about 4 months and the results were dramatic. But then, just as you mention, I started introducing certain things, one at a time, that allowed a little more carbs into the picture. Through that process I have found a balance for myself that really works and I am more metabolically healthy than I have been since i was in my 20's (I'm currently 54). Same for my wife--she has found a balance using this approach that works wonderfully for her-when absolutely no "diet" that she tried before was sustainable or effective. Recently my VA doctor told me, "Oh, you're doing carnivore are ya? I wondered why you'd lost weight. Let me just tell you--when you start eating people food again all that weight is going to come back." I was livid--I'm healthier than I've been in all the time I've been coming to see you and you're going to make a comment like that? The truth is, we are truly in the midst of an awakening regarding the reality of nutrition and what our bodies truly need v/s what so many of our conventional providers are telling us. In a sense, we have to take control of our nutritional health, despite the information that is still flowing from the manualized care providers. Not all of them, but a disappointingly high number for sure. I am so impressed and thankful for the way that you facilitate the discussion around all this. You are courageous and strong in an arena that can be really ugly and misleading at times. Keep it up! Our community needs it now, possibly more than ever before.

Zeke, it sounds like your doctor was talking down to you acting as if you were eating dog food. I guess by PEOPLE FOOD he meant JUNK FOOD and I don't think you're going to return to eating junk food. I really don't understand what he was saying but it sounds like his attitude was really bad and not becoming a doctor. I would have replied to him: NO, I'm NOT going to return to Frankenstein food. I'll leave that to y'all to eat and then you can spice it up with meds. 🤪

If you don't eat carbohydrates and then you add them to your diet, your muscles fill up with glycogen and you can gain 10 or 15 lbs. But it isn't fat and doesn't effect your health. It's basically just sugar-water in your muscles that increases stamina. Something for people to keep in mind.

You are spot-on. I went from low carb to keto to carnivore. It just got to the point of me moderating my macros to what made me feel good vs what foods made me feel bad in some way. There are some hard core carnivores on social media. One person stopped losing weight on carnivore and ended up feeling almost suicidal. I think that is very upsetting and might be a precursor to an actual eating disorder, or at the very least, disordered eating. I track macros but am not so obsessed with following strict carnivore. If I had to put avlabel on my woe it would be ketovore. I have coffee and the occasional hard seltzer. I season my foods. I feel so much better psychologically not being all OCD over what I put in my body. Thank you for this video.

As a primate who is neither a rabbit nor a lion, I've decided on a truly revolutionary diet. I call it the Omnivore Diet. It's this crazy approach to food that is based on the old adage "Everything in moderation." Basically, if it's good for me, I eat it. If it's not as good for me, I don't eat as much of it. If it's bad for me, I avoid it or - if it's really, really tasty - I'll have it on rare occasion. I also do this nutty thing where I don't treat my dietary choices like a religion. I have no need to convert anyone or shame anyone for not eating the way I do. Crazy, right?

I used to think this too, ate the recommended diet of the food pyramid, limit processed foods, lots of veggies and fruits lots of “good” carbs yet my health is declining 42 and high blood sugar and elevated liver enzymes…. It’s worth trying something different if your health isn’t optimal. I hope your diet (my old diet) keeps you healthy:) I think sugars (all sugars) might be more harmful than we realize. Time will tell just started this journey 2nd week in but so far no swelling in my legs and no more midday crashes, will follow up with bloodwork at 30 days, 90 days and 6 months see if this is helping or not. Good luck on your journey!

I also got a cgm and realized I was heading into hypoglycemia at night, and even throughout the day with low carbs. Also, my thyroid function was getting affected. I added carbs, mostly fruit and honey and starches when I felt like it, and it worked like magic. Steady bg throughout the night. My morning bg even lowered by adding carbs, I was amazed. The most surprising part, my fasting insulin went from 8 to 5! By adding carbs! Crazy! Everybody's built different. I think if you don't have an insulin resistance issue, no carbs and super low carbs may be a detriment instead of a help. Imo. I don't go over board though, anything above 150 for me personally can have some bloating effects. Bless you all on your health journeys!

I think you are correct that everyone is different. I can track my issues with unexpected hypoglycemia back to at least age five and think that if I had not eaten grains in particular as a child I would have done better. Many influencers in the Carnivore world have years worth of serious insulin resistance, and I think that is why very low carb helps them be stable. But we should all find what works best for US. rigid areas surrounding diet are a big problem which can pre ent finding true health.
@bitrudder37928 ай бұрын
so true, we are different and I think also we might need different things at different times. Dr. Mindy Pelz is really good on this topic for women in particular. Stephanie Keto Person, is very strong and her opinions that long-term carnivore isn't a good solution - there are ways to use carnivore more long-term that can be helpful, or you can go with about 5% carbs in your diet of very specific kinds that are great for your Microbiome and other things. She's particular about not too much protein, making up the rest with fat. but you've got to flex and adjust according to your current condition sometimes. Carnivore evolved anecdotally in the public space. It is silly that people are making hard and fast rules for Everybody. Life is bigger than food.

Of those I've known who are militaristic about being a carnivore and over-correct everyone else, I don't know any who have gone past 6 months because they treat it as a religion instead of a series of daily choices that add up to a lifestyle. I'm at 9 months now. The lady who introduced me to it got hysterical when I didn't go out and preach it to everyone else and join her crusade. Then she lost it again when I didn't limit myself to turkey at Thanksgiving. The difference is that I've lost well over 60# and am nearly down to my goal while she comes and goes and excuses her complete abdication of the diet for months at a time and has lost and gained her initial 35# weight several times over again. So I called my holistic practitioner and we got to the bottom of the issue with a yeast cleanse plus switching my shampoo to Amish made shampoo bar. Holy smokes what a game changer! copied from a video.............This video certainly does have value for everyone. Personally speaking - meat healed my acid reflux, my carb addiction, obesity, insulin resistance , changes in vision, low blood sugar, gallbladder, pancreatitis and kidney problems and even cancer. As a result I'm able to find the time to conduct research regarding a hypothesis I have regarding one possible fundamental reason as to why many members of both the Greatest Generation and the Baby Boomer cohort were both so late at beginning a KETO journey In one word: Popeye. Beginning in 1929, the creators and publishers of the comic strip and the cartoons began a campaign of what perhaps can be referred to as pro-vegan "Popeye-ganda." part of the popular culture zeitgeist for decades. Popeye of course claimed he was "strong to the finich 'cause I eats me Spinach." As a result, countless parents encouraged their children for decades to "eat your vegetables so you'll be strong like Popeye." Remember also that it was common for kids to watch Popeye cartoons between arriving home from school and sitting down to dinner. Talk about timing. To counterbalance things somewhat, of course, the character Wimpy was something of a carnivore with his preference for hamburgers he couldn't pay for. . One cultural milestone which pushed back against this trend was when President Herbert Walker Bush, certainly an proudly told the world that he simply didn't like eating broccoli. Carry on Carnivore Warriors, proud and strong as we celebrate our freedom from vegans on this glorious Fourth of July weekend. Get some protein on that grill, today, tomorrow and Monday. I can assure you there's plenty of it out there - despite these pesky rumors about ongoing worldwide food shortages and empty shelves. I just returned from the local supermarket and the place was packed. Lots of activity around the meat counters in the back. I'm happy to report that virtually no one was at the salad bar. At $7.99 per pound that salad is almost expensive as a good cut of steak - so why bother with salad anyway?

I had wondered if some might be misleading. Breakfast for me consists of 1 glass of collagen peptides, a bowl of cereal (I do not add sugar) 1 cup of lactose free whole milk on my cereal, and 4 whole eggs, scrambled. My first cup of coffee for the day has caffeine, the rest of the day is decaf. I then put 10 miles on my exercise bike. About 2:00 I have 2 hot dogs (no buns). I will then walk 1 mile to the grocery store. I don't always enter the store. I have a cloth bag with me in case I do buy something. on the way back, I stop at the post office. A snack may consist of pork skins with sour cream dip. about 7:00 I will put another 10 miles on the exercise bike. usually I then have 3 hamburger patties to bring my protein up around 140-160. Today instead of the hamburger, I have tins of sardines. I also eat a half stick of butter through the day.

One thing that no one mentions about cruciferous veggies is that they contain high amounts of raffinose. When raffinose gets metabolized by the gut, the bacteria feast on this compound releasing A LOT of hydrogen, carbon dioxide, and most consequently METHANE gas.

I think she takes collagen sometimes? Would colostrum offer the same?
@BillyBulletPewPew8 ай бұрын
@niellalien I think that she does also. But I don't think colostrum offers the same amino acid profile/balance however, colostrum is amazing for many other reasons and benefits. And while I think she does have some collagen containing aminos in her diet the bulk of her diet seems to be lacking in that. It's common for the carnivore community including the experts to be lacking in the methionine balancing aminos from the more collagen rich parts of animals. Which is why there is yet another "sect" of carnivore called nose to tail that includes these types of things as well as organ meats.
@nutritionalaura8 ай бұрын
@@BillyBulletPewPew Also organ meats it looks like are missing. She mentioned being a little low in copper, which plays a part in the formation of collagen. Beef liver is quite high in copper. But w/ high iron levels, it's somewhat of a catch-22.

Lillie, I love your line: "I really try not to label my diet; I'm not trying to be animal-based; I'm not trying to be low-carb; I'm trying to be healthy!" 'Healthy' is the goal, not 'how' you achieve it.
@cherylh46888 ай бұрын
Altho' I totally appreciate the "no labels" approach, I can't help but point out that according to most zoologists and animal scientists, you would probably still be considered eating a "hyper carnivore" diet, because that is the label for any animal for whom 70% or more of their diet is animal foods, lol! Also, have you tested A1 vs A2 casein dairy, to see if you react to A1 by comparison? And I was wondering about pastured poultry and 100% grass-fed red meats. I'm just trying to think of possible sources of inflammation affecting your scalp that you might not have explored my So also, have you considered eliminating high histamine foods? Years ago, I used to follow the Body Ecology Diet for candida issues, and I never felt better. More recently, as a carnivore, I also was experiencing head itching, and so following your lead, I just eliminated eggs. But it didn't improve. More recently, however, I started eliminating my canned fish and sources of vinegars, because I had started to suspect it was causing a rash in the groin area. And lo and behold, my itching went away! Even a spot on my back that used to itch all the time! And so now I have determined that I need to be back on the BED, where I don't eat anything that "feeds yeast," has yeast in it, or contains histamine. And that seems to be making all the difference! And so, if you are similar, I would eliminate the sardines (substitute frozen or fresh salmon instead), oysters, and yogurt, and see if that makes a difference! Last but not least, have you had any food allergy testing done besides just the "elimination and then reintroduction" approach? That might help you discover something you are sensitive to that you hadn't considered. That is definitely my next step, just to be sure. Btw, I finally increased my protein to 140-150, again based on something you said, but lowered my additional fat (butter) to minimal, and after a year of no carbs I am FINALLY losing weight and sleeping through the night.i never would have believed that increasing my protein would have that effect, but I trust you, so I gave it a shot, and am very glad I did! So thank you so much! Oh, and I often have broccoli or asparagus, and feel better when I do! Great video, btw, as always!! I intend to ask my granddaughter to watch it, as I think she could learn a lot from you!♥️🤗

Dandruff is a fungus living in the scalp. I shaved my head a few months ago and consistently exposed my scalp to sunlight and used anti-dandruff shampoo daily. This essentially killed over 90% of the dandruff and I've since then regrown my hair. I still get very tiny amounts of dandruff every so often but it's absolutely nothing compared to before. I'm a male so I just rocked a clean shaved head and I actually looked good with it. As a female maybe you can rock a wig while your hair regrows. From what I've researched, shaving the head and exposing the scalp to sunlight while using dandruff shampoo daily is the most effective way to kill the fungus.(sunlight literally kills fungus, that's why most fungus grows in the dark, hence why it grows under the hair)

You've always been my hero. You still are! My wife and I were popping Zantac like candy around the turn of the millennium due to chronic heartburn. We found that when we stopped drinking milk, we didn't need the Zantac anymore. So it was rice milk and almond milk for us ever after. After going on a bread binge during the pandemic, I told my sister I was going to start some kind of keto diet because I had been putting on some weight and was concerned I was eating too much sugar. My grandfather had diabetes and died from the complications, and my wife also had diabetes and ten years ago succumbed to the complications. I watched a video from Autumn Bates about a low-carb morning smoothie she was making and she mentioned a few adjustments you could make if you're following a strict keto or carnivore diet. "Carnivore?!" Waitaminnit, what?? So I searched on KZbin and right away found you, Steak and Butter Gal, and Kelly Hogan's "My Zero Carb Life." I've been following a "relatively" strict Carnivore diet for more than two and a half years now and I've never felt better in my life! I had earlier tried to eliminate sugar from my diet after reading Dr, Gary Taubes's book, "The Case Against Sugar." I've always been a big fan of Gary Taubes because, although he isn't a medical doctor, he is a scientist who has turned his skills into finding out Why We Get Fat. Autumn Bates also turned me onto "Keto Coffee" (also known as Bulletproof Coffee) and having recently developed my taste for coffee and found a popular coffee that I enjoy drinking black (my mom always drank her coffee black, there's no reason I shouldn't be able to -- she drank Folgers, and I just can't do that!), I kept having coffee every morning with a quarter stick of butter and an equal amount of coconut oil blended in. I didn't use the unsalted butter or organic coconut oil as recommended just for simplicity's sake. I also always salt and pepper my meat, and my wife taught me to always pepper my eggs. Yes, coffee, coconut, and pepper are plant products, but it's really not very much… Once my carb cravings ended (from previous experience, I had learned it would usually take about two weeks), I often found that the keto coffee would often take me through much, if not most of the the day without even wanting to eat. It may not be Carnivore, but it's just too good when it gets me to only eat when I really want to or when I really think I should. Two or three days without solid food is probably more than enough. I didn't have any of the health issues that so many others talk about that got them to start eating Carnivore, but I delighted in the positive side effects. I started waking up earlier and earlier in the morning. Early morning has always been my very favorite time of day. But for the very first time in my life, I was waking up awake, not sore or groggy at all. And as I learned from raining dogs with my wife, small poops mean healthy (and fully digested) food. Your "10 Benefits to the Carnivore Diet" video said it all! "No Stank!" Wow!! I learned over Christmas dinner with my sisters, that I could actually eat anything, as long as it wasn't much. I had heard that cruciform vegetables, such as broccoli, cauliflower, and Brussels sprouts were particularly good on a ketogenic diet, so I preferred those, especially since my sisters have learned to cook Brussels sprouts much better than our mom ever did. I had been on a Potato Diet before this, so I knew the potato has all the amino acids to form a complete protein. You would usually have to combine vegetables to be able to do this, as with rice and beans. Those are the vegetables I would prefer if presented with a big holiday dinner such as at Christmas. And, well, I can actually eat anything at all, just as long as it's not very much and it's not for very long. It's when it becomes a habit that it can become a problem. I missed pizza, so I ordered a meat lovers' pizza. Hey, it's mostly meat and cheese, and it's a thin crust! Well, I felt it in the morning. So now I say that I eat "mostly" Carnivore. I will have an Egg McMuffin, or a bacon, egg, and chees sandwich, just not every day. It's what you eat All The Time that makes the difference, IMHO. "Oops, I had some coffee." As my mom used to say, "A little bit won't kill you." Your addition of fruit rubbed me the wrong way. I've decided that I'm an adult. I no longer need sugar or sweets of any kind. To me, fruit is just another "sweet." Save those for the kids. I stopped drinking the keto coffee at the end of February because it just became too expensive. My fixed income has been cut back since the COVID-19 Emergency Measures ended. I don't miss it. Now, I'll drink a cup of black coffee only once in a while, often when I'm feeling a bit hungry but I don't want to fix anything to eat. Maybe a second cup if I felt I drank the first cup too fast. I'm learning coffee in the late afternoon might not be such a good idea. But eating "mostly" Carnivore is just too good to stop. If I start waking up sore or groggy or I start noticing a stink, it means I have to get more strictly on the "beef, butter, bacon, and eggs" program.
