Another correction: It’s not just increased range on melee attack, it also massively boosts melee damage (at least +100% to +150% based on result of a single offhand test I did with friends).

For those who didn’t play the first game, in that game, the Constitution (a literal musket) was more or less a decorative ceremonial weapon that you picked either to challenge yourself, or as a joke. It was a satirical weapon (with the same lore as in HD2). So, the fact that this HD2 version is much more useable (medium penetration and bolt action) is a good sign that the devs not only want the Constitution to be more viable this time around, but also every weapon in general. (Post balence fix of course. They were on some shit for a while)

Folks here making practical min/max suggestions and Im here hoping they add the option to switch to semi-auto...which starts this long animation of the Diver pulling out the bolt and replacing it with the Helldivers version of a Pedersen device. Voilà you lose dmg and step down to light pen but now ya fire semi-auto.

Considering the low magazine size, the gun should get a pretty big damage boost. Even the Diligence Counter Sniper has 15 rounds, and does 20 more damage. The Constitution is essentially a Helldivers port of the 1903 Springfield. It's a Bolt-Action, 5 round magazine rifle, which was used in first Galactic War (Springfield was used by US in WWI before getting replaced by the M1 Garand), it's basically 1 to 1. And the Springfield uses .30-06, so the Constitution should hit like it uses .30-06

The Constitution was my favorite weapon in the first game. During the interval between shots, it could be reloaded with the reload button, which allowed you to shoot until the ammo ran out.

The constitutions a very fun weapon to use even if it’s not meta, the same goes for the first game. But I will admit the constitution in hd2 has no where near as much mmmph as the first game’s did. In the original there was a much more satisfying cling, and you had to manually reload, but the best part is how it felt to shoot. Smaller enemies would practically explode when shot with it! Both guns may not be good but I still find them very fun but the helldivers 2 constitution doesn’t feel as satisfying as it could be to use, at least outside of stabbing.

Personally I like the Constitution. It's still not my pick of weapon, I always felt clumsy using bolt actions myself, but it's a dang cool rifle. Great for long and mid-range for sure with the damage and penetration, and a nice strong stab you can give if anything gets up close.

It's a fun gun, the bayonet feels really good to use and I hope more guns get bayonets in the future. HD2 is one of the few cases where it makes sense to fix bayonets in a futuristic setting, with the Terminids. I still want a sword.

A bit more damage on the rifle would be VERY nice.. A Holographic sight or even a x2 scope or the like would REALLY help, and definitely more stagger.. And yearh a stripperclip for faster reload and the ability to have 5 in the rifle and 1 in the chamber, which it only can have when you spawn for some reason??.. The Constiutution.. ANOTHER weapon that CLEARLY was NOT tested properly before given out, BUT.. Personally i really like it, but wish for improvements on it..

I already had 2 democracy protects medium armor. The constitution is underpowered and I get that its supposed to be a ceremonial piece it could still of been updated. If it had a 10 round mag, faster firing, a speed loader/ rounds reload (like the senator) and more dmg/armor pen I'd use it. Just imagine what this thing would be like if it was buffed then given to a guy in the melee dmg boost armor. mmmm

The armour is an amazing throwback but the constitution is abit weak, right now its a significantly worse crossbow with the same mag size and rate of fire. If it dealt like 400 damage or had heavy armour penetration it would be amazing and bring something really new and unique to the primary table

Bolt action infantry rifles don't use speedloaders. They have an internal body magazine, not a revolver cylinder. What it needs is a Stripper Clip reload on empty.
