My aunt had polio as a kid, paralyzing her. When the vaccine came out for polio, my grandma cried. She took all of her children to get the vaccine, and people were lined up around the block with their kids to get it. It was heralded as a miracle. For years, helpless parents had to watch their children die and become paralyzed from this horrible disease. How soon people forget. I can't imagine denying a child of such a gift of life.

My grandfather had chickenpox as a kid, no big deal for most people. It returned as shingles when he was older, blinding him in one eye and causing horrendous pain that persisted for years. I don't get the whole "vaccines cause autism"-argument, wouldn't nearly all people be autistic then? And if everyone was autistic autism wouldn't exist because autistic traits would be deemed the norm?? So what if it caused autism anyway (which it doesn't) I have autism and I'm doing pretty well, and it hurts my feelings knowing there are parents out there who'd rather risk their children's lives rather than have them potentially develop autism, as if autism was a bad thing, it's just a different way of being, that's all.
@autismenlightenment
@autismenlightenment 3 жыл бұрын
Correct they do not cause autism. People are autistic from birth, but because they have sensitive neurological systems it impacts them more and can make the autism more severe. I am also autistic myself. I have worked w children on the spectrum and heard personal stories from other parents. Vaccines dont cause autism but having autism can cause adverse reactions from vaccines at a young age.

It stinks that your way of being has been dragged into this debate. I'm sorry your feelings have been collateral damage as a result. If you're looking for someone to blame, research Andrew Wakefield. In 1998, he published a NOW-RETRACTED study in a prestigious medical journal, and it linked the MMR vaccine to autism. Not only is this link nonexistent (a gajillion subsequent studies proved this), but his original study was rife with fraud. He only studied twelve children, some of whom didn't even have autism, and manipulated the timeline of when they got their vaccines to coincide w/ autism diagnosis. He also taught out these children through an anti-vaccine parent group... In addition, Wakefield had major, UNDISCLOSED, financial conflicts of interest. A lawyer, who planned to sue vaccine makers on behalf of parents of kids with autism, had retained him. Wakefield had also applied for a patent on a single measles vaccine (ie not combined w/ mumps, rubella), and he would've made a lot of $$ if people listened to his convenient study conclusion - that is, not to give your kids combo vaccines like MMR.

So I scheduled an appointment for my HPV shot and told my friend about it, and she was all like "oh no, the HPV vaccine is super dangerous and has all sorts of side effects". And I was all like "well, I'm not gonna believe it just because you told me, Imma research it. I didn't even know anti-vaxx was a thing, this was back in 2009 or so. So obviously my search results were filled with anti-vaxx so when I went to the appointment I told my Dr. I didn't wanna get the shot anymore, cuz I had read it's dangerous. I still remember her disappointed look. She told me that that's not true and that it is a very important vaccine. But she respected my decision and didn't try so persuade me. I wish she had. I was a minor :( anyways, luckily I really didn't know it was a whole movement, so I only thought that one might be sketchy, I always got all my shots. Although maybe if I had understood it was an entire movement, I would have dismissed it and gotten the vaccine after all, since I knew they work. I don't think the breast implant scare is the best example. That conversation has been reopened as of late, with many women coming forward to how it negatively affected their health, to the point where they needed to be removed. Most of this issue stems from implants with micro tears, which leak the fluid from the implant into the body over time. Studies still need to be made though, but I don't think it's that far fetched.

Exactly. I delved into a case for my journalism studies, talked to lawyers, a doctor and the person involved. The silicone leaked into her body, and had been leaking for years without the doctor noticing. The way it was described to me, is that there's something in silicone that cóúld trigger your immune system of you have an underlying condition. In her case, rheumatism. It wasn't showing before the implants, but the silicone triggered her immune system and she started showing symptoms. So no, the implant didn't cause rheumatism, but made her develop it. If that makes sense. And it was a particular brand of implants that seemed to cause these issues. Others were fine. I don't think it's that far fetched either.

@@Linsey2345 it's horrible that your child went through that, I'm so sorry. But the scenario you went through _is_ actually taken into account when vaccines are developed. Just like for covid tests where they need to measure the false positive and false negative rates (which will always exist for any test of any kind), and reach certain thresholds before it's approved. Same with medication, like hydroxychloroquine which was _not_ approved when they determined that the adverse effects outweighed the potential positives. With vaccines, they need to reach a certain effectiveness at preventing the disease, but also a low enough risk of negative effects. No matter what it is, there's always a small chance of an adverse reaction. But it _is_ outweighed by the positives, on a societal scale. Even on an individual level, if your child hadn't been vaccinated, who's to say they wouldn't have been very ill from measles instead? You _should_ be compensated and your child _should_ receive all the care they need for the complications. And you and your family have every right to be frightened of vaccines after that experience. But that doesn't mean vaccines are bad.

Many examples of this too, she LOVES making content about this. She's willing to share gross and embarrassing information about their hygiene and personality. So it doesn't pass the smell test that she can't say 'they're not vaccinated because of a medically significant condition'. That gives no information about them personally, and it's substantially less information than the exploitative information she *IS* willing to share about them for content, when it makes her look good and them look bad. In my case, I'd take the chance and take it just for shot at stopping covid (which is a far bigger threat), but I feel like having a doubt because of the most likely very short testing period is totally reasonable.

His uncle muscled him out & got him to a sanatorium in PA which probably saved his life. (Sanatoriums were like fresh-air health facilities in non-slum areas.) My grandfather survived but had breathing trouble including getting pneumonia frequently for the rest of his life. He wasn't able to serve as a soldier in WWII, he had some kind of homefront neighborhood watch gig like the old men, which made him feel emasculated. He was about 5'4" tall, his sons are all 6' or taller. So was the uncle who saved his life. It's just like...these aren't joke diseases. There's a reason they came up with vaccines for them. They affect growth, they have lifelong effects on really important systems in the body. Even something like mumps can render a kid sterile and change the whole course of their future that way.

Are you unaware of the multitude of implications that environmental & dietary inputs have on our body’s innate ability to fight infection? As an example, have you read about the significant impact that Vitamin D has on proper immune function, particularly with regard to this coronavirus? Supporting optimal immune function through diet & lifestyle is a vital aspect to reducing the impact of this virus (in addition to reducing the spread in the first place, of course). “Boosting your immune system” is often code for “I don’t need to get vaccinated because I stay home if I don’t feel well.” This does not take into account that most diseases have an incubation period, where an infected person in contagious and asymptomatic. This is the primary problem with COVID-19. COVID has a two week incubation period, wherein the carrier feels totally normal and meantime is exposing everyone with whom s/he comes into contact. Sleeping well, taking vitamins, and getting exercise does not change make an infected person less contagious.

Good video...but breast implants are probably a poor example. First, I'm pretty sure the FDA just issued a black box warning for breast implants being linked to a specific type of cancer. Second, however low the risk for breast augmentation are, they should be weighed against the relatively low benefits for most people (in consideration of variable cosmetic outcomes and the fact that they are not lifetime devices). Whereas the minuscule risk of a vaccine should be weighed against the substantial benefit to yourself and your community in curtailing preventable disease.

@@Kaleysia Personally, I still do perceive it to be a bad example because the validity of those symptoms is still grey, and those suits also revolved around high rates of implant rupture and leakage, which were known by but not disclosed by the manufacturer. Therefore, it is not necessarily a good example of "nothing bad happened here and people were still compensated for it." Second, because of the low utility to society of breast implants, it doesn't actually seem like poor policy to me to have temporarily removed a specific type of breast implant from the market while a significant number of terrifying anecdotal claims and verifiably high rupture and leakage rates were being thoroughly investigated. The risk benefit calculation is very different for vaccines.

Because you don't know WHAT vaccine is going to be necessary and when it'll be necessary. Getting them ALL as soon as possible will mitigate the chance of contracting and potentially giving the disease to others. Especially if it's a virus like covid-19 where you dont have symptoms for weeks before you notice you have it. Who cares if you're /scheduled/ to have a measles vaccine done next friday when you get it that Tuesday? People need to understand that STEM is not a subject. In universities STEM subjects take up 50% of the campus: the knowledge covered in String Theory and Zoology are nothing in common.sure, a STEM degree gives you a scientific method of thinking but thinking that someone with a STEM degree should be able to have a acknowledged, rational and fact-based opinion on vaccination is, well, simply unrealistic.

I think it's difficult to find an informed scientific opinion on "the covid vaccine" because it doesn't exist yet. There are many different possible covid vaccines being developed, but none have been sufficiently tested to be confirmed safe and effective yet. So if anyone tells you at this time that "the covid vaccine is safe", they don't know what they're talking about.

I know I'm like 8 months late to this - but someone who was working on the Pfizer vaccine (I'm not a vaccine know it all, not by a long stretch) was explaining to me that vaccines are actually very differently to standard drugs in terms of half life and side effects. Prescribed or over the counter drugs are often taken long term, and as such they last longer in the body (because it takes time for your body to remove any foreign substance from itself) and so they often have side effects, and some can be quite severe. Vaccines are purposefully made to be identified by the immune system, tagged, and then destroyed in order for natural antibodies to be made by your body. As such, the side effects of a vaccine are basically never long term because the vaccine has stuff in it (e.g. dead or artificial virus bits) which is very quickly removed by the body. This is why you often feel a bit tough for the next 2 days after a jab, but very very rarely (maybe never) have long term consequences/side effects! I hope this helps 👍

As a pharmacy master student I can tell you that vaccines usually don't give side effects a long time after you got them, but you can get side effects that develop gradually and you'll only discover them or get symptoms after a few months or even years, so in that way a vaccine can give long term side effects. We don't know the long term side effects from the covid vaccines, and yes it's possible that we could develop long term/ chronic diseases from this vaccine, but it's rare. So everyone should make the choice for themselves.

Btw i work at a vet clinic and have seen over 200 vaccine reactions(as far as how many vaccines we give thats not a lot)but its still some and no they werent just rashes at the injection site some were near deadly. My chihuhahua would have died without my mom being the vet and her being near oxygen and drugs. Im just saying different dogs have differentt reactions to some very basic vaccines so what makes you think there isnt a risk for people when vaccinating all at once. Btw we only give around 2 to 3 vaccines at once

I was vaccine hesitant due to a mentor strongly advising me to look into the anti vaxx world (not youtube or celeb, a real person in my life) I did not understand either side and was super confused! But when I was pregnant with my one year old and was offered the whooping cough vaccine, my intuition felt very okay with it, and then with his other vaccines too! There seems to be less vaccine injury/deaths than what there would be if there was no vaccines, no one should have to lose a child, we are all doing what we can with the information we have in this very uncertain world we live in.

I would like to say something and I'm not intending to be rude at all. As a psychotherapist, I tried to put a little effort into analyzing your video cuz I don't quite understand you or even the position that you are taking. Just so you know, I have never seen one of Mayim Bialiks KZbin videos before and I never knew her personal views or anything until the video that you referenced randomly popped up on my KZbin feed. I watched it out of curiosity and then I watched your video which was recommended underneath hers. There are so many points that I would like to touch on but I feel more concerned with the underlying factors here. To be honest, I can't decipher if it's a cognition issue, or perhaps some type of odd celebrity jealousy, or maybe even just using someone else's fame to boost your viewership. But regardless of your motivation, the content in your video is completely wrong. Starting with the fact that Mayim Bialik has never "promoted" being an anti-vaxxer or delaying vaccines. She wrote a book about parenting because that was important to her and as a celebrity who has a lot of fans she also gave personal information about herself and her children at that time. A lot of celebrities give their fans personal information about themselves but that doesn't mean that they are promoting for the general population to follow them in their decision. Also, the forward of the book can be written by anyone she chooses and I can assure you that she doesn't share a 100% of the same beliefs of whomever wrote her forward. Also, you seemed slightly defensive when stating that she could stop acting as if people are creepy or trying to be personal because that's not what you're trying to do. However, that's EXACTLY what you're trying to do. She stated in her video, in so many words, the reason why she delayed vaccination for her children when they were growing up. She spoke about that when she mentioned the allergies and reactions and medical contraindications. And that's exactly what you said she should say and everything would be fine with you. but just because she didn't use your exact wording that you needed her to use doesn't mean that she didn't state the same thing. And again, just like at no point in time in history, she did not promote any point of view in this video. She simply corrected people's perception of her beliefs and then shared and elaborated more upon them. Honestly, I do not know how she could have been any more clearer with her words. And she seems to be a very genuine person to me, although I cannot speak from any personal experience with her. So I'm not quite sure what it is you wanted her to do that she didn't do. Nor do I quite understand how you have become some voice for vaxors. You clearly showed images of scientific information regarding vaccinations and pointed out that they were too complicated for the average person to know. Yet, you're an average person and you were speaking as if you're some sort of authority and dismissing the person who is actually a scientist. She may not be an expert in vaccinations but I can assure you she understands the charts. I haven't watched any of your other videos and I am quite confident I never will. But I do hope that your 256k followers only take your opinions as opinions. Because I find it close to impossible to be able to trust someone who either doesn't understand information that is clearly communicated or simply has chosen not to. But it's a little brazen to post the same video that you're trying to discredit as evidence when it clearly states the opposite of the statements within your entire video. And that's a person who has a platform also, you should be more responsible.

I think people should listen more carefully to Mayim's video. She is not an anti-vaxxer, the video itself make it very clear. The fact that she didn't follow the "usual" recommended schedule for her two boys doesn't mean that she didn't followed it at all, and she explained that too in the video, for those who really wanted to listen. A lot of parents find themselves in the condition of following another timing for the vaccines, just a little different, because their kids are more delicate or they have particular birth conditions....she explained something, but of course this is her personal business, and she doesn't have to explain exactly WHY she followed another timing/schedule. And being an anti-vaxxer is not simply saying, as she says, that yes when she had to take the kids to get the shots she was worried and icky and felt a little strange...we, parents, I think we felt the same feelings too!!! The moment we take our babies to do it, I think we feel exactly how she felt! She is just trying to explain that on some things we are all on the same boat.....and being so judgmental without knowing her whole story is wrong.....so I think that you have either something personal against her, or you didn't get her video at all. Or more, you didn't want to get it. Bye.

She’s a public figure with a platform to a large audience. She’s the one who brought up the “delayed vaccination schedule,” not the public. If she’s going to publicize how she screws around with vaccinating her kids, she damn well needs to explain WHY. She doesn’t get to play the privacy card after she airs her own dirty laundry in public.

@@samiam2088 Dear Samian, from that point of view I can understand you opinion: from the early 2000s, and after that, a lot of public figures and vip people started living their lives on social medias, but deciding to tell or show too much to be understood without explanations...I think that she did that mistake too, but a lot of times she admits that she goes wrong like every other normal person, and she put her face in the video saying that she is wrong, and this is very humble. So this teaches us that videos and social medias must be managed very carefully. But some facts must remain private anyways, especially because medical matters are really private matters. And we are not even talking about HER life, but about the life of her 2 kids...and they are MINORS. Let's not forget that. I kiss you strongly!

For various reasons (including being old and born pre-MMR) I was not vaccinated against measles, I got age 7 and it was a week of absolute feverish agony I still have strong nightmarish memories of over forty years later. I HATE anti-vaxxers with a passion to be willing to expose their kids to that much pain. I should point out my baby sister born 12 years later in the mid 80's had her full complement of jabs as have my small nephews this past few years.

I stopped watching Mayim Bialik after her hot takes about extra-marital sex and her barely-concealed moral judgement about polyamorous and other non-traditional lifestyles. She's smart, but she's also SUPER religious in a pretty orthodox way (i.e. like she's into 'modesty' and perpetuates the old trope that 'promiscuity' leads to STDs) and that religion really leads her down some really wrong, judgemental, unbelievably unpleasant paths.
