I'm glad you gave this band another chance. This is the classic lineup of Yes: Jon Anderson (vocals) Steve Howe (guitar) Chris Squire (bass) r.i.p. Rick Wakeman (keyboards) Bill Bruford (drums) All 5 are considered among the top of their instruments. Quite literally a different band from the Owner Of A Lonely Heart lineup, with only Anderson and Squire from this lineup on that song (different guitarist, keyboardist and drummer). As a musician yourself, I knew you would appreciate this band as all are stellar musicians. Thank you for coming back.

Now image listening to this as a 13 year old in 1971 for this first time. Between Yes, Emerson, Lake and Palmer and Pink Floyd back then started my adventure into Progressive Rock. Being a teen in the seventies was a great time.

@@steverey8362 "Leave It" is off of 90125. The same album Owner is on, which he didn't like. I think he needs to delve into the classic era before revisiting their pop hits otherwise it might sour him on the band. Someone made the mistake of suggesting Owner as his introduction to Yes. Big mistake. He wasn't feeling it. Classic era is the way to go.

As a kid, I got a full dose of Zep, Yes, Rush, and Deep Purple. Why? Master musicians. All are tops at their craft: Bruford (his drumming is amazing) Wakeman (amazing keyboards), Howe (amazing guitar), Squire (amazing bass). Put them in amazing compositions, you get, well, one damn amazing band.

@@glorianiaga2111 Their pop album was 90125 in '83, just about anything before that is good. Close To The Edge is considered by many Yes fans as their best album. It has only 3 songs on it, the title track taking up all of side 1, and 2 songs taking up side 2. Fragile is another album to check out, a lot of great songs on that.

@@glorianiaga2111 Entire albums are the way to go. There's a reason (generally) why the artists put the songs in the order they did on the albums. I'd suggest that you start with "The Yes Album" from 1971 and work your way forward. You're in for a treat.

Was privileged to see Yes live once, brilliant! They performed on a round stage in the center of the stadium which slowly turned to be facing the entire audience and had every instrument known to man on that stage and used everyone of them. They sounded as good or mostly better than their studio recordings! Brilliant!☮️❤️

Glad you found the real YES. The other song you heard was YES by default, Lol.. They broke up at the end of the seventies because Atlantic was pressuring them to write nice short pop tunes, which never suited them. They created more consecutive sprawling epic progressive rock pieces than any other group. In 1983, Chris Squire and Alan White ( drum and bass) teamed up with Trevor Rabin and called themselves 'Cinema'. YES vocalist Jon Anderson heard the sessions and wanted to be a part if it. They found themselves with another old YES pal Tony Kaye on keys, so they said well, I guess this is YES. so they used the band name YES, and since Chris and Jon were the YES founders, they had the rights. So suddenly there was birthed a VERY skilled, heavy rock pop eighties band called YES that bore little resemblance to the original. So now if you dare, dig deeper into one of The greatest prog rock bands of all time!. Oh, by the way, the actual YES masterpiece would be a little 21 minute diddy called 'Close to the Edge' from the masterpiece album of the same name. Roundabout is YES getting warmed up. You have no idea how deep the rabbit hole goes...are you sure you want the red pill?? Lol...

There's still great music. The difference is that now you have to dig for it. The 70's seems better because the good stuff was able to break into the mainstream more readily. Now it's all on Bandcamp or Soundcloud with no record label promoting it.

Think about this- there were only 5 people in the band at this time. And they reproduced it live in concert. I'm an eyewitness. I saw them do it at Madison Square Garden in 1980 ON A REVOLVING STAGE when I was a college student. No Autotune , no backing tracks, no background singers. They were so good they invented a genre - prog rock.

Thats why these bands are very popular today. I work with a load of bouncing late teen,early 20's and they ALL love 70's music. As i am 66 and lived it all,i am teaching them. They all say todays music "sucks" That was always a good word when i was a young man but it means something is dogshit. I cannot disagree but then,i was blessed being born when i was. Another band you’ll probably love is Traffic. Recommend The Low Spark of High Heeled Boys or Glad or Freedom Rider. Each is different from the other but all are great music. Steve Winwood is a musical genius, song writer, amazing vocalist, keyboards. Everything from blues to progressive rock to jazz. He and 3 others, Jim Capaldi-drums, Dave Mason-guitar, Chis Woods-anything else that needs playing, formed Traffic in the late 60s. And I’ll add my rec for another Yes song to All Good People or Starship Trooper.

This was early 1970s "Yes". In the 1980s the band lineup changed; a great song by that lineup is "Changes". The lead guitarist on "Roundabout" is Steve Howe, who left "Yes" and joined a new band "GTR" in the mid-1980s. You should check out "Imagining" and "When the Heart Rules the Mind" by "GTR".

Great reaction. Next: Close To The Edge. This, the title piece from their fifth album after Fragile, is absolutely amazing. It is a long piece (18:43), actually more of a 4 movement suite rather than 4 separate songs. It took up all of side 1 of the vinyl album when it was released in 1972. The music is all over the place and the lyrics are best approached as Dadaist poetry, but hey, that's prog rock. p.s. And you earned a new subscriber.

I am soooooo sorry I or we didn't give you this song in the beginning....Yes' Roundabout was a huge hit in the US and album Fragile was No.1 in1969 to 1970.....my reaction was like yours when I first heard this song on the radio in1969...growing up with Musicians...it was pure perfection to me.....then I found out I wasn't alone....many others including a worldwide music critics were all ranting and raving about the album "Fragile." I bought the album and have been a fan ever since. They were along with Rush the pioneers of Classical Rock which is called Progressive Rock today....They are among the gods of Rock n' Roll.....so.....I am glad you answer my request. I want to request another song by Yes. It is from their first album "Yes Album"..."I've Seen All Good People." and "South Side of The Sky." I hope you will like it!!!

The band went down from Glasgow to Edinburgh, 2 hour drive. Jon Anderson the singer noticed all the roundabouts in the 2 hour drive. (fact there is 22) So he started to humming the song and Steve Howe who was never quiet wondered what was going on. Together they made this song in 2 hours, of course it was processed in the studio, but the song was there!

Did you notice this record was well played before they put it on youtube. So you know it was really played & the record was well seasoned cause you could hear the cracking on the record & it wasn't dusty. YES! Another rabbit hole for you to dive into. Back when Led Zeppelin was my favorite, Yes was my #2. This drummer, Bill Bruford, was my favorite drummer up until Danny Carey. Close to the Edge is an 18 min EPIC to really sink your teeth into. As to Jon Anderson’s lyrics? I’ve had a lot of people that I introduced to Yes ask: “What the heck is he saying?” As far as my take, he is more painting visual imagery in your mind than saying something. Chris Squire’s thumping base lines are epic, Steve Howe’s guitar is incredible, and Rick Wakeman’s keyboards, Hammond organ, etc. is legendary. The band had many different members during their day, the ones I mentioned were my favorite. Another 2 songs I would recommend is Yours is No Disgrace, and All Good People.

That organ and that baseline........incredible! And I can't go without mentioning those voices. Also kudos to that lead guitar, but that base and drums were wild.

close to the edge and gates of delirium.... not easy to listen to, 20 min songs but if you get it, it will change your life. Usually takes building up to but give it a shot. Also watch some of their live concerts and you can see how it is just them playing every note every time perfect!!!

This song will always remind me of Lasarium. It was a laser show set to rock music at the Seattle Center back in the late 70’s. We would get all stoned out. They would turn off the lights and everyone would lay on their backs on the carpet floor and watch the laser show on the ceiling

they did a live acoustic blues shuffle version of it in 2004 for a DVD...shows their versatility....also, check the rehearsals for the gig narrated by Rick Wakemam .....great fun

Remarkable album. BLew my my mind when I first heard it around 1972 or so. There was so much good music around we were spoiled. Could listen to great unending music all night without a break.

What a great prog band. I last saw them in 2003 during their 35th Anniversary tour. Rick Wakeman rejoined the band bringing his wizard like keyboards with him. What a great and memorable concert seen at the Concord Pavilion in Concord, CA. They were crisp and clean and still relevant.

Your smile says it all!, lol if you were at a park,.and boppin your head all around, and.if someone were to look over and ask, what's got you goin, I can just see you saying, "dude you gotta hear this!, you wont believe it,.its amazing!,..lol that's how it goes when you hear music like this, and yeah its old, but again, back.in the day, analog, reel to reel tape, you couldn't mess up too many times, huh virtually not at all, time consuming, costly, you had to practice, refine, perfect, sync up with each other in a group, all without a computer,..huh save the computer in your skull, nothing was at the touch of a button, first time I saw Earth Wind and Fire, the Islesys, and Geddy Lee, on stage playing guitar, bass, but seeing them also tap on some kinda foot petals like piano players do, it just was incredible to see huh not only the multi tasking, but how playing a guitar wasn't as simple as it seemed, plugging it in wasn't all that made it sound so good. It seemed tedious, lumbering but all the reel to reel and levers that look like stick shifts in a car, in the studio.hah onstage too!, .lol look how it was used and what it produced!, you see that bass line, wasn't that sexy and funky, badass , do keep going, check out those I mentioned, and Brothers Johnson , in the company of Gaddy Lee, and others, Godspeed, Peace ✌

My first big time rock concert. 50 years ago. Municipal Auditorium Nashville. Nosebleed section about as far from the stage as you could get. It was amazing! Yessongs is a concert made into a movie. Saw it a few years later. Their music ia still fresh.
