Welcome to my channel! This is a music reaction channel. For the longest time, I've loved creating content on the internet. I started off with a gaming channel right here on KZbin, which eventually turned into a Twitch gaming channel, but as time has gone on I've evolved into doing other things on KZbin. For years now I've wanted to create a music channel on KZbin, and recently just figured "why not?", so it’s time to give this a go! Give me any suggestion you have for music reactions, and I will do my best to get around to them. As music has fallen further out of my life, I figured this would be a great time to get reintroduced to music.
If you enjoy this video and my reactions make sure you subscribe to the channel, like the video and comment down below which video you would like to see me react to next.
This is a reaction video used to educate and give my feedback on the song and artists.

Jon wanted and the band opened with this classic (in just about every show) during the 70s. Great choice!

"Khatru" was the song they opened their concerts with in the mid-late 1970s, and they could not have picked a better track to get things rolling. I can STILL feel the chills from their "TOURMATO" tour at Oakland in 1978.

I agree Siberian Khartu is an awesome opening song, I remember sitting with a rock drummer who marveled that they would open the concert with such a complex song instead waiting till the end of the show when they were completely warmed up, but YES was great & YES was always warmed up. TRULY YES IS BEST!!!

For me, "Siberian Khatru" is one of those songs that you must have heard on the live album "Yessongs" too (preferably together with the "Opening"). Personally, I like a lot of the old songs better in the Yessongs version. But that may also be due to the fact that "Yessongs" (almost 50 years ago) was my first album by Yes and therefore these versions are "the original" for me.

When you do 'Close to the Edge' I recommend dimming the lights, closing your eyes, and enjoying the experience. Some say the best prog rock song ever created. Be interested in your reaction after.

Fantastic song, great reaction, and you've saved the best for last. It's good that you've familiarized yourself with Yes before taking on the Close to the Edge experience. And, what an experience it is. I've been experiencing it for nearly four and a half decades, and it's still fresh and still surprises me with nuances not before noticed, from time to time.

The more times you listen to a Yes Song the more you hear! Depends which member/instrument/voice you focus on….and they’re all incredible!❤

Right? You can't listen to all at the same time, nor can you listen to just all the time! 50 years (and counting), and I still hear something "new" each time.

For a more realistic Yes concert experience in your own home, play the last 4 minutes of Igor Stravinsky's Firebird Suite, in the dark, followed by Siberian Khatru. That's how all Yes concerts began for years. The Firebird is a phenomenal piece of music and the ending will prime you for Yes.

You are playing this album in the same order as I liked to do. I tended to play side 2 first and end up with Close to the Edge. It just made more sense to experience this masterpiece this way.

The music and lyrics are ingrained in my heart and soul forever. When Yes fell apart we got ABWH - Anderson, Wakeman, Bruford and Howe. From Bill Bruford's own channel I highly recommend "And You And I (Shoreline Amphitheatre, Mountain View, CA 1989)"

Of course, we all knew you would be blown away by Siberian Khatru.😉You've noticed the complexity of their layering of sound, but because they spent so much time perfecting the mix in the studio, you could hear _everything_ in its time instead of a muddle of competing sounds. With YES, the guys would add their own experimental inspirations, but in spite of the fact that they seemed to be playing competing riffs/melodies in certain passages, you could hear them both (like Squire & Bruford doing an exotic rhythm section thing at the same time the guitar or keyboards were soloing. Their mastery of complexity was so impressive, their studio compositions invite many repeated listenings where you can pick out what each of the guys were doing within the totality. They stayed "fresh" even after repeated listenings (if you had the time to pay attention). That's why I remind you to NOT listen to the many YES fans out there who are always pitching their live performances. Their studio albums during their Uber-Classic Period (The Yes Album, Fragile, Close To The Edge) are MUST LISTEN. Their live recordings, while being satisfying on a certain level, don't come close to their Studio Masterpieces. I'm not saying don't listen to the live recordings...please do...but only after taking in the perfection they created in the studio. Just saying...

After you’ve listened to Close to the Edge, maybe try No Opportunity Necessarily, No Experience Needed for some out of this world bass playing. Also Time in a Word is a really nice Yes song to listen to.

The anticipation for you to do ‘Close to the edge’ is almost painful but glad that you are enjoying Yes and your broader prog rock exploration. After CTTE maybe you will feel able to try the 4 tracks from ‘Tales from topographic oceans’ which are all a vinyl side long. (Consider it a challenge but one with huge rewards.)

The thing about Yes is that there's so much replayability. I've listened to this album hundreds of times and still find things that surprise me. So much content jammed into one song! BTW don't even try to interpret the lyrics on this album. Jon Anderson said that the lyrics on Close To The Edge and this were mostly delivered on this album because of the way they sounded, not by what they meant.
