Todd, This cd was produced by Trevor Rabin, ground breaking technology of the day, all digital at 106 DB compared to standard cd at 90 db . I'm in pro audio I used this cd to test audio systems. Enjoy ! saw this tour in 94 in Quad, Great songs I like this album. I'm a huge YES fan since 1971 Roundabout. Endless Dream is another Yes masterpiece. I LOVE State of Play the chorus is old style YES IMHO. Todd future suggestions Keys to ascension II studio classic Yes line up and great songs, The Ladder another Great Yes album and the the final album with Jon and Chris Magnification.

I've been a Yes fan since 71. I'm one of the rare first generation fans who have taken the full ride with them. In fact, I'm still in the ride, and eagerly anticipating Mirror To The Sky next month. Talk was one of the few Yes albums that was a "grower" for me If I hadn't have already been a committed fan, I might have let it go after the first listen. But somewhere around the third time through over the course of a couple months, it kind of unlocked itself to me. In fact, so much so, that it's easily in my top 10 of their 20 something albums. It ends up getting played a lot when I playing Yes and stacks up quite well for me against some albums by more classic members. I like it eons more than ABWH, Keysstydio, The Ladder, Union, Open Your Eyes, and even Tormato, but my initial reaction was lukewarm at best, so I feel you. I hope you'll find time to sin it again some time Cool show Thanks

When you praise the harmonies, don't forget Squire's in there as well. I agree that the pinnacle of the Rabin era was 90125, but this one's up there. I like it better than Big Generator, certainly Union, and even ABWH. When I decided to fill in the gaps of my Yes catalogue, I decided a few times I didn't need to really bother with anything after Big Generator. Talk was the first album that I started to latch onto and realize there was still some genius left. And I'm glad I continued. There are still some great albums to come after this. Give this one a few more listens!

"I Am Waiting" is a bit long. Otherwise an interesting album with the highlights of "The Calling" and "Endless Dream" (to my taste). The album is like all Yes albums after "Big Generator". They've all been underappreciated and have their flaws, but they also contain so many great songs that are unfairly overlooked (including "Fly From Here" and "The Quest". Only "Heaven & Earth" doesn't warm to me) . ABWH were not allowed to call themselves "Yes" because the naming rights belonged to Squire and he had already formed a formation called "Yes" with Trevor Rabin, Alan White and Tony Kaye. (the fusion of both bands then led to the album "Union"). It would be nice if you listen to ABWH's album. It has its very own charm.

Love the album reactions! Hope to see more of them! Not only for the sake of albums, but also for the sake of not having to stop by youtube every 12th minute, and hear the intro and end of the videos I'm listening to etc. But I do also have a strong preference for whole albums in general^^. For me, the third track was the standout moment, while the rest was fine. Or, that was at least my opinion until the 15 min epic. Man, what a great track! Loved it! Yes isn't quite my cup of tea, but I rather enjoy taking a sip every now and then, as they are close! Getting a taste of what is out there helps me not only appreciate "my" music more, but also servers to make me more informed about the concept of "music" and what different people do with it. Not to mention having the pleasure of being blown away every so often by something new!

@Henriktranoy
@Henriktranoy 2 жыл бұрын
@@MusicWithToddLedbetter Haha, no^^ Quite understandable that you are! If anything, you should talk more! Its just easier for me to click when its a long episode, less to micro manage. But while the "please subscribe, Patreon chat etc" is understandably something that should be included, it quickly becomes "fluff". Probably not feasible, but for me it would be better if you had a long episode, "Todays songs with DJ Todd is: [name of songs] " or something. But I have no idea how sensible that is to do considering video title, chance of episode being taken down etc.

@@Henriktranoy I know, I feel like I say it so much. That's why I usually save it for the end. I get so many new viewers with every post I feel like I need to say it. At least that's what YT tells us to do. It seems like every KZbinr I watch ask for the same stuff. I rarely say it at the beginning. I'm so glad you like the long videos, I have more coming your way Henrik. So good to here from you, I'm so glad you're sticking with the channel. Even though it will be my 2 year YT anniversary on the 23rd this month I still learning. I recommend checking out a cover of The Calling by The band Geeks (Richie Castellano). They have a history of phenomenally good Yes covers you can find on KZbin and in this one some of the discreet components of the song that can get buried in the production/mix of the original emerge a little more exposed with the result of being able to appreciate even more all that went into the original for seeing how the sausage was made. I actually enjoy listening to (and watching) the geeks' cover on this one a bit more than the YES original. Castellano has said that Squire is his favorite bassist and that it's a coin toss between Trevor Rabin and Brian May for his favorite guitarist.

All prior Rabin-era Yes albums were basically Rabin songs presented to Anderson as complete with the idea that Anderson would tinker with them as to the final vocal arrangements. "Talk", from the start, was different, with Rabin realizing that he could benefit by a collaboration with Anderson when it came to songwriting. In the end, "Talk" has much more of a classic Yes feeling to its songs and is considered more progressive than the other Rabin projects. I think this album was the very first one to have the sounds sent not to recording tape, but to a hard drive for later editing and processing. Yes were still innovators almost 30 years into their career: From Wikipedia: "The majority of Talk was recorded and mixed at Rabin's home studio in Hollywood, California which he named The Jacaranda Room.[ Additional recording took place at A&M Recording Studios in Hollywood. Rabin took charge of the album's production, opting for digital non-linear recording techniques rather than traditional recording tape. He recalled: "Everyone thought I was nuts - but the band was great, very supportive" and they agreed to pursue it. After a period of research, Rabin and his engineer and mixer Michael Jay linked four Apple Macintosh computers to a single IBM machine, each running the digital audio workstation software Digital Performer developed by Mark of the Unicorn, and saved onto 12 GB Dynatec hard drives. As they worked on the album, Rabin and Jay wrote down errors they encountered or new functions they needed to complete the recording process, to which the programmers would update the software with their new code. Anderson later said that the album took as long as it did to finish because of the teething problems with the software. The process resulted in a reduction of takes as problems that arose were able to be corrected using the software which kept the songs fresh. Rabin stressed that the album is not computerised music, and that the instruments are "real" and feature live instrumentation, but recording them onto a hard drive allowed the tracks to be manipulated in an easier way than tape."

The bassist for the "Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe" project was Tony Levin, who had played with Peter Gabriel, King Crimson and Pink Floyd. It's a very good album, with a more proggish feel than what Yes was doing at the time.

Yes's musicial abilities were not curtailed by the date but by the business of profit and the ten %'s who place the knife edge to genius. Squire is none existent on this album except for his harmonies that you hear as Rabin's. Saw Squire and his band 36 times from the Tales tour until his passing.

I don't completely disagree, but I have listened to this album on a top shelf audio system the bass will shake the walls, I agree he is not predominate in the mix but he is in there. The digital recording brings out the low end frequencies.
