I was a TIE pilot and a damn good one. Then my squadron was wiped out in a failed attack on a rebel fleet. I remember cutting hard over when I ate a series of blaster bolts into my solar wing. The fighter lost control and I blacked out ( thanks tarkin for cheaping out on life support ). When I came to I was floating onto deep space in my airless death ball when I remembered I had a non issue emergency beacon on me. At that point I had maybe an hour of air left and 1 spare tank good for another hour. I figured worst case scenario? End up in a rebellion prison? Beats suffocating and being flung into the unknown regions of space. So I activated the beacon, was still hoping the empire might be looking for me but knew they probably weren’t. Lo and behold it was a rebel cruiser that responded to the beacon. When they ordered me out of the wreck of my TIE I quickly exited and threw my helmet off, forgot how good recycled shipboard air was. I threw my blaster away and said “ I surrender”. As it turned out they weren’t expecting me to give up without a fight. I simply explained that I had no life support and was 35 minutes away from dying. The intelligence officer on the ship was more then happy to chat with me, given again that I had nothing to lose there was no reason to lie. I figured I was headed to a rebel prison when a guy named Wedge Antilles asked me 1 question, it went “ if we gave you an x-wing would you have any problems fighting imperial pilots?” I responded “ no cause the guys I flew with are all dead, the empire gave us death traps to fly and I want revenge for my dead friends”. He nodded and told the guards “ he’s coming with me guys, Rouge squadron needs all the help it can get”. Defections are rare in the empires starfighter corps cause the casualty rate is so high, if more lived more would gladly defect. The T-65 is by far a better fighter, take it from an ex imperial

Couldn’t have summarised the average imperial starfighter corps experience better. Unfortunately high command does not appreciate me conversing with ex imps so uh…I guess I will see you in battle.

There's nothing wrong with the Tie fighter, it can run rings around an x-wing and is fast. It is the Zero to the X-wings wildcat. Also, Tie pilots are some of the best trained pilots in the galaxy, but they are fighting against rebel plot armour and that is an unassailabe force.

I honestly think one of the best examples of how good TIE pilots actually can be is the Battle of Yavin. The Rebellion had somewhere between 22-30 ships, while the Empire only deployed about 12 TIEs, one of them of course being Darth Vader. While Vader was the sole survivor of the TIE pilots, only 3 Rebel pilots survived as well. That means the Rebels lost 86%-90% of their fighter force, while the Imperials lost 92% of their fighter force. True, the Imperials lost a greater proportion, but not by much. And when you look at the actual number, the Rebels lost a lot more than the Imperials (not counting the people on the Death Star, just talking about the fighter pilots). Having only three out of 22-30 pilots survive is a bigger deal probably than having only one out of 12 make it. Now yes, you can definitely argue that Vader is basically the equivalent of an entire squadron all on his own, and he did take out seven Rebels on his own (all three of Gold Leader’s first attack run, both of Red Leader’s wingmen on the second attack run and then Red Leader over the trench, and then Biggs on the third attack run) but still. The results of the aerial battle were actually pretty on par for both sides in that one

They should've listened to thrawn and mass produce tie defenders and tie defenders are also cheap and extremely powerful even better then x wing

If i remember correctly, a tie Defender (i think in canon?) Is 300k credits and a regular standard tie fighter (fresh off of the production line) is 60k credits. This effectively means that you get 5 tie fighters for each defender (if my knowledge isn't wrong). From a cost perspective this makes me tie fighter far more appealing to imperial leaders on average because then they can at least allegedly pocket more credits for themselves. Only way Thrawn's tie defender would've been even a fraction of the total amount of fighters in the empire is if Palpatine himself pushed for it to be so. Palpatine would tbf likely have to fire or kill Tarkin in the process (best case scenario that is) lol EDIT: Source for the costs of a defender vs a regular tie comes is "Generation tech" and his video/s on this very topic. ^^

Meh… Take it from a Stormtrooper Sergeant who almost got crushed by a crashing one. Yep, let me explain. So it was on one of the many outer rim planets, just guarding the middle of nowhere, aka some Imperial outpost with my company. Of course, a squad of TIE Fighters fly over us, it was a daily occurrence, and all of a sudden, one of the Fighters Solar Wing decided to say Dank Ferrik and break off. So, the poor sod in said fighter came crashing down in a spin of problems… directly on the outpost… I somehow lived that, despite losing a leg and well, seeing my entire squad dead, crushed or engulfed in flames, but overall these fighters are a danger. They’re good in minor cases yes, but that thing killed men I stuck with for a year, and took my leg. Still have my old E-11 that got wrecked by the flames of the outpost. Never liked it anyway.

I believe that might be a case of the old “unscrew some bolts on your squadron mates fighter”, a morbid in-joke that some of the more unhinged pilots like to pull, the results of this prank can vary… that or shoddy engineering, which isn’t as funny.

Hello Mr. Narrator, have you ever flown a Tie Defender? I have in the 90's game "Star Wars:Tie Fighter." It is a cherry of a ship! The speed and maneuverability of an Interceptor, and the shields of an X-Wing. The Empire could have won with these ships deployed all over the Empire. 💪🏻🫡 🇺🇸🤝🇬🇧

I have not had the chance to fly a Defender unfortunately, they are quite rare to see in-action as of the civil war
