Just because you're a great team doesn't mean you stop looking for upgrades. Hicks is 100% cooked the wrist sheath injury notoriously saps power and he has a litany of other previous injuries. I have no idea why the Yankees are so fascinated with him and not signing a CF was really dumb this off-season. Especially when Cashman said it was a priority! Team needs to trade for Benintendi or pull off a miracle for Bryan Reynolds.

@afkathisguy
@afkathisguy 2 жыл бұрын
@@Benro97 Reynolds had a killer year in 2021 (24 hrs, OPS over .900). Fielding percentage of .996 in CF. He's young and is still on his rookie contract. Yankees would have to give up serious prospects to land him. And yeah, Hicks is done. Hate to see it but he's not contributing in any meaningful way. Hicks isn't the only soft spot on the team. But he's the only soft spot that doesn't counterbalance by bringing something else to the table. We have two catchers that can't hit worth a lick but are great defensively. IKF is a middling hitter but he can steal a bag and is a better SS than Gleyber. Gallo, for all of the ways he frustrates you, is a legit power threat. Barring a miraculous turnaround, I don't see Hicks becoming a plus player in any category. Time to move on IMO.

@@bori1986 , wouldn’t say his contract is unmoveable. Yankees would have to eat all of it. More then likely gonna end up like Ellsbury and they will cut him. Never understood why they extended him. He wasn’t anything special before the contract. You don’t pay someone on what you think they will be worth. You pay them on what they are worth. Yankees assumed Hicks would take this step to being a star. Dude got paid and basically stopped playing. Send him to the minors for a bit and let him figure it out.

Normally he's making sense. In this case, he was asking how Hicks was hurting the team, and that was easy to answer for anybody watching. He couldn't hit, didn't hustle on ground balls or on defense, made stupid errors, both physical and mental. At that point in the season, Hicks didn't help us win any games and had made errors that cost us games. If you go 161-1 and in the one loss, a guy made a dumb error that cost you the win, you were hurt by that player, at least in that game. In Hicks case, he consistently was a drag on the lineup and he was always lollygagging in the outfield, and getting picked off of base because he's not paying attention.

How is Hicks killing them. Today's game against Baltimore. Strikes out with bases loaded. His being in center in the bottom of the sixth allowed a runner to second who wouldn't advance with Judge there. He put forth next to no effort on defense and didn't hustle. We would be better off playing Marwin regularly than continuing to put a terrible player out there.

When did it become offensive to dislike things that aren't good? No matter what it is, if it stinks, it stinks, and Gallo and Hicks stink. If you're willing to take the praise, you've got to be willing to take the criticism. . People pay to watch them, not only for tickets to see them in person, but to watch them on yes or prime or whatever behind a pay wall app they're on that day. Like Kay always says, which annoys me, "I'm sorry, but" toughen up buttercup

Seriously though. We are winning. Yes. But...would they still have Hicks and Gallo starting when we have Florial, or Andujar or Gonzalaz who would be better choices... if we were losing? It makes no sense to play Hicks and Gallo both together in the same game along with an under .200 catching position, does it? Is Boone waiting until we lose to take them out? Hell no, I bet he would still play them. Well, we did lose today with Hicks messing up two plays in the field and stinking as usual at the plate. ANd Hicks was in the whole game and he should have been yanked for lack of hustle in the outfield. IMO, BESIDES A FEW PITCHING MISTAKES, HICKS NEAR SINGLE HANDEDLY LOST US THAT GAME. What do you say about that Kay? Eventually if the top 4 struggle with Hicks and Gallo and the Catcher position as it is we will absolutely start to lose. Do something before that happens it's called progressive foward thinking. Geeze.

And Don....Florial is struggling in the minors....he is hitting 266 right now with 11 stolen bases, Andujar is hitting 310 but they are not Trout so they shouldnt be called to replace either guy in the lineup? WHY WOULD YOU NEED TROUT in order to replace guys hitting UNDER 200. If in 3 weeks, Yankees lose 8/9 in a row, these guys will be running most of the show talking about how the yankees have a major problem on their hands with hicks and gallo and Cashman needs to figure out how to fix it. How dare fans calling into professional complainers and talk about how maybe the yankees should replace their worst 2 hitters with younger talent who might be able to put up better numbers. I dont like the fact there are 2 outfielders that dont produce at all. Gallo has NEVER done well with this organization. Some people cant play in the Bronx, and I think he is one of them. He would probably do ok on a different team. Hicks on the other hand was a decent player for the Yankees prior to his rash of injuries. The wrist and elbow injury he sustained killed his throwing arm. I would be okay if his power never returned but was able to hit for contact like IKF. I really hope at least 1 of them is upgraded before the deadline. It is 3 automatic outs when Gallo, Hicks, and the catchers position come up to bar.

I'm A fan. I think he managed his worst game ever today though. Should have pinch hit for Hicks with Donaldson with bases loaded in the sixth, and I was saying that leading up to the AB. Had he done that, Judge shifts over to center and the runner at first doesn't get to second on a fly out in the bottom of the sixth. Then bringing in Luetge, who has been pretty bad this season, when King didn't pitch the day before and was available. Combo of Hicks, Boone and horrendous umpiring (bad calls, worse ejection) cost us the game today. But I'm not with those people who say Boone is awful. Just a bad game todaym

Sorry to Michael Kay but I'd take andujar over gallo or hicks every day of the week and twice on Sunday. He makes contact. I know he can't play defense, but he is such a better hitter than gallo. And florial is hitting .265 with 4 homers and 11 RBI, and he plays good defense. He's doing better than Gallo and Hicks. I know eating their contracts would be a hard pill to swallow, but how long are they going to be allowed to be automatic outs?

I'm loving the team. But there is literally no benefit to ever playing Hicks. He brings nothing, not even effort. Gallo at least hustled and makes an effort. Hicks is just a waste of space out there. It makes more sense to cut him and pay him for nothing than it does to continue letting him drag the team down. Luckily, the rest of the guys are playing great and it covers up for Hicks, not today though. His being in Center cost a run in the bottom of the sixth, he should have at the very least been pinch hit for in the top half. I mean if we are all being honest, we knew he wasn't gonna come through with the bases loaded. Other than Hicks, I'm fine with everyone else, even Gallo like I said. But not trying is a cardinal sin for me where sports are concerned. Hicks has got to go, either find some rube who will trade or DFA him.

@@snerdterguson I mostly agree. Especially about Gallo. Huge difference between Gallo, who visibly is upset with himself when he doesn’t produce, as opposed to Hicks who shows little to no hustle. Just out of curiosity, say the Yankees do DFA Hicks, who do you see as his replacement?

@@StarJesse13 almost anyone. You gave Stanton and Judge for left and right, or put Judge in center. Then we have Marwin, Andujar and Florial who are all upgrades over Hicks. Yes we have the best record in the league. The problem is that when you get to the postseason lil things like gallo and hicks are going to come to play. Imagine a crucial game bases loaded and gallo up at bat or hicks. Its not about what they’re doing now because it obv doesn’t affect us cuz were doing amazing. The fear i believe for fans is what happens when they’re in a crucial spot in the post season
