I used to study Shaolin in my youth at a school that was reputed for being very hard (especially Hung ga training haha) - about 6 years from 12 to 18. I had to stop when I started studying after graduating high school as I couldn't physically make the classes anymore. I miss how strong my body was, but the lessons I learnt, the perseverance, and the mental fortitude to do something challenging before my mind has time to talk me out of it; how to motivate my classmates and myself to push through pain and suffering; these lessons have stayed with me and driven me through so many challenges in my life. And I made incredible friends. I will always praise my years in this discipline and would recommend it to anyone who has the opportunity to join a good school. Not to fight (as this drew most people)...but to learn where to start with self-mastery. 6 years changed me forever, for the better. This was very cool.

I actually practiced shaolin kung fu for 4 or 5 years when I was a teen. I had 1h30 hours of training 3x a week and the first 45 minutes were just conditioning and strenght training. Basically, it was like a 45 minute non-stop hiit workout and then we had another 45 minutes to practice the techniques and do actual sparring. I was in my best physical condition back then. It was one of the most fundamental things I did in my early life that contributed a huge deal to my character and self-awareness, to building my confidence and to learn how to man up. I owe to my training sessions, my teachers and my mates the character I built during that time. It really builds character. Shoalin kung fu and psychoanalysis together made me grow and changed everything about me during those years.

I love what you guys do but two things I would suggest. 1. Include some older people on your travels. Many of the people you visit are much older than you and you learn from them and experience a great time but you never take anyone older with you. 2. You're seeking discomfort, you have pushed yourself outside of your comfort zone so many times yet you still turn up to something like this with "are we gonna die? I don't think I can do this!" It's like you haven't yet learned to embrace where you are and the situation you've put yourselves in. It also shows your immaturity, that you have yet to still learn from life. I started pushing myself to do things once I turned 40. Now, if I've put myself in a challenging situation, like wall climbing (I'm terrified of heights) I try and embrace it and not show my fear. I did it to myself, I put myself in that situation and what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Stood out there with the Sifu who says "you must stay the whole 20 minutes" you should be feeling confident "I can do this." That is truly seeking discomfort.

Ever since i came across master Shi Heng Yi's Qi gong (Ba Duan Jin ) practice , major shifts happened in my both physical and spiritual journey. Though I'm a Yoga practitioner since 4 years now, At first i felt very painful while practicing his style of Qi Gong . Subsequently i started to give it a try every single morning in a raw. and guess what i had less pain in my thigh area. Its a goddess pose and i really felt the same. By nature its coming easy on me day by day while concentrating breath work. It does wonder in my physical and emotional level. It reduces stress , anxiety , depletion, upgrade cognition, you'll never feel house chores as burden anymore , less talk more work. Even in stressful circumstances you remain conditioned ( what to do what not to do ), you listen more, observe and allow others to speak. Eventually you know how to deal with anger and not self sabotage. Thanks for reading through and much love to YES THEORY for bringing this video. Namaste 🤍✨🙏

Funny enough, the performance at the end of this video was showcased on the European Shaolin Temple KZbin Channel and while watching it, I could have never guessed that Yes Theory, one of my favorite KZbin channels was there too. I want to visit the monastery and train rigorously there someday because I think there's something special in finding spiritual and physical enlightenment through hard work. Being close to graduating high school, I've been constantly trying to become the man I want to grow into, and Yes Theory and what the Shaolin Temple stands as an example of some of my goals in life. I don't want to follow the path to a simple job and a simple life. I want to travel, meet new cultures, meet new people, and improve the lives of myself and the people around me. I’ve been following this master for two years now, not as much as the physical because I am still literally healing from a very severe abuse and car accident so physically, I can’t exactly do the kung fu part but following his channel and listening to the philosophy of the Shaolin monks inspired me to want to live life again literally I felt for a long time. I had no purpose anymore and that there was no use for me to have goals or even care about the future and therefore even care about myself; and the present, I started to listen to his lessons and it awoke something in me that no therapist or any psychiatrist or psychologist has ever been able to do that; and I’m eternally thankful. Awesome that you guys were able to connect with him and film an episode experiencing his entire aura and I could only imagine the power that is felt around the Shaolin monks, and how inspiring they are when it comes to simplifying and understanding oneself in the world around us. I meditate every day and have learned how to live in the present and find joy and things that I used to completely overlook and it has brought a sense of grounding and peace to me that I haven’t had in many years. It’s a confidence that allows me to feel Challenged every day because it is all the balance and it must be maintained, but also the mindfulness of much of the meditative practices are like magic in and of themselves. I highly recommend you check out his channel and listen to some of his videos because they truly are incredible.

I always thought shaolin masters only did this as a way to make the body stronger, and I thought that when they did this training they did not feel the pain, but now I know they feel it and they cousciously decide to go through it, and I think that's just beautiful. I think that's the way we should move through life. Thanks for this video!!

This video just reminds me of how great my culture is. Being born and raised in the city where Shaolin Temple is, it is normal to see their Kongfu shows during the New year or major holidays. I never realize how much Shaolin spirit and Buddhism concepts has become part of me until I came to the western world and see how many people suffer from psychological problems. And thats when I know Buddhism heals, it has all the answers to all of our problems!

I can only imagine what you were able to witness. I probably would have been tempted to beg my parents to let me train there if I were in your situation.

@@Tony_Kaku its true. it's our joke that if we do't behave, our parents will send us to kongfu school to suffer lol. It takes a LOT of hard work to become a Kongfu monk, no one wants to do that in our culture unless you are really passionate

@@nikarun4165 I hear ya. Im also Asian and grew up with 2 older brothers who always kicked my ass and teased me when I was younger. That always pushed me to want to join the military or be apart of something to make me strong enough to fight my bros lol Now that were older and I can take them on, I wont 😁

This story really resonated with me. Thank you! I would love to see a second episode in the future. They should have given the Yes Team a task (cleaning every day, meditate, or any kind of task) that they could've done for a year and see the mental, physical, and emotional changes. I'm thinking about doing it as well.

Start with the 1 hour meditation everyday, it's what the master recommended and scientifically proven that it's good for your life satisfaction.

This training reminds me of my ballet training. Every day in pointe shoes beginning with the age of 9 when I chose to make ballet my career. As little girls we need to start quite young to have the correct alignment to gain the strength in our legs, feet, and ankles before we can go en pointe. Even with the blisters, tendonitis, bruised toes, loss of toe nails, etc.... we found a way to keep dancing and training. Therefore with the many years of training through the 'regular' pain, we can distinguish it from a pain which needs extra attention. By the time one gets to the level of a principal ballerina carrying an entire ballet - it's mainly about the art and one has gone through most steps of learning how to 'work' through most physical challenges. Of course love of the art form and performing many different ballets is the reward and for myself the main thing which kept me going. I'm 60 years old this year and danced en pointe till right before my 40th year and I wouldn't change a thing. Good work guys... that looked like a lot of pain in a very little time. Bravo.

Been practicing kung fu 3 times a week for a year and a half now, and I discovered this meditative dedication which gets you closer and closer to the present moment and your own truth. The way Shi Heng Yi talks about it here is wonderful, and exactly on point. There are so much life lessons to learn from these practices, it's a lifelong path! And as always, eternally grateful for your inspiring and altruistic work guys. The energy on this KZbin channel is the purest and most loving of all, well done ☀

Another great video. I have done Tae Kwon Do and Shaolin primarily with some other martial arts mixed in over the years. Shaolin and Muay Thai have probably been the most challenging physically and mentally that I have studdied. You all did a great job for your level of experience and conditioning. Keep pushing and keep up the great content and learning.
