I bought one a few months back, after maybe 20 hours of stick welding(I took good care of it) it started flashing me, replacing the battery did nothing. I contacted yes welder and they sent me a new one no questions asked. So far the new one is working well, but I haven’t done too much welding so far. Not sure what happened exactly but I did appreciate the good customer service. Hope the new one works better. Also one side note, the head gear broke on the first one after the first month, something stripped out in the tightening mechanism. So I now don’t tighten it down every time I put it on, I just slide it on my head and it works fine.

That's interesting. I'm starting to experience some of the same issues. I just stripped my tightening strap. I think I just overtightened it. I ordered a new one and it cost me just under $11 shipped. It is kind of flimsy so I'm going to do just what you said. Leave it set and slide in and out of it without adjusting it every time. My helmet just started flashing me from time to time. I adjusted the sensitivity a little more toward the sensitive side and it's seemed to cure the issue for the moment. If it starts again, I may contact Yeswelder to see what they will do for me. Did you contact Yeswelder directly by email? It's a bit disappointing because I really like the helmet.

DIY Homestead Projects Yes, there is a “contact us” section on their website. Just send them a message and they will ask for the an order number. I ordered mine from amazon and gave them that order number and they sent me a new one. I believe the hood has a 1 year warranty, so if you purchased within the last year, you should be fine, that is if you need exchange it. Hopefully not. I will let you know if my second one starts acting up.

I work at a fabrication shop that makes ladders and whatnot , I mainly only stitch 1-2 inch welds with mig, it’s perfect for this kind of work. Love the big screen the real view lens. For heavy welding I wouldn’t recommend but for somebody doing light fabrication It’s perfect. Oh I swapped the headgear out with a Lincoln Viking headgear 20$ Amazon.

Dear DIY Homestead Projects -thank you for taking the time to reply. I did a bit of stainless tig and experimented more than usual with the sensitivity control and found this gave me better lightness in respect of seeing more than just the weld pool. Some days I have good eyes and can see critically. I chucked a Trusoxin in the bin well before the expiry warranty. Low and behold the new mask(Amazon) was identical!!! It makes you wonder if because the manufacturers are Chinese and the difference in lingo that's the reason for sh#### instructions? What would we all do without you questing helpful souls on You Tube??? Incidentally, I thought the sensitivity control was not for what it actually is/does. I'm jealous of a young pal who is a professional welder who swears by the 3M welding masks but my OA pension doesn't cover that sort of money.... WOW.

Congrats on 10K brother! Quite an achievement. And another very informative vid. When you showed how much brighter it was than the HF, I knew I had to have one. Will eventually be ordering it through your affiliate link. And the cheaters...game changer. I started using them about a month ago. Bty, I know you were hoping this hood would be more sensitive to better activate when TIG welding. Did you find that to be true? Thanks!!!
@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10
@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you and I really appreciate that! I didn't think I would ever see 10K subs but here I am finally. With the Yeswelder hood sensitivity set at the half way point I really haven't noticed any difference in the sensitivity compared to the HF helmet. I did a couple of 1/16" thick material joints at around 50 to 65amps and had to adjust the sensitivity so it would darken at that lower amperage and it worked as I expected. Unfortunately at the time I didn't think to try the HF helmet to compare. With the Yesweld helmet set half way on the sensitivity dial the two helmets seem to be compatible sensitivity wise. Since I had to adjust the Yeswelder to be more sensitive at the lower amperage I'm guessing I probably would have had some flashing with the HF helmet at that amperage. I think it's nice to have the option to adjust the sensitivity and likely a must if you intend to weld at a large variety of amperages. Hope that answers your question. I thank you in advance if you choose to purchase a helmet with my affiliate links. I really appreciate your support! Wishing you the best with your welding adventures! Take care my friend :)

noob question, but do helmets like this offer you any level of protection if they fail to darken? any way to safely test before using it? Can you get arc eye from 1 second failure with this helmet on if I'm welding only at 60amp 3/32 rods?
@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10
@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10 2 жыл бұрын
This helmet is marked with the "ANSI Z87. 1 - 2003" safety standard and that standard does provide UV and IR protection even if the darkening feature fails. I have no way of testing that but I can tell you that over several years using this brand and other cheap brands of welding hoods, I have had no problems with eye damage from using these welding hoods.

I have the same yeswelder helmet for a welding class. I have been happy with it, but I have to complete a 1g stick weld test. If you look at his 6:38, you can't see any detail around the weld. I need to see detail of the edges of the metal for the 1G test to keep a straight line. I am 62 years old , so I need more help than this helmet seems to provide to complete the 1G test. The helmet has been fine up to this point. A strap broke and yeswelder sent me a new one free too.

Strange though it may seem My Trusoxin has the same part number. Thanks very much for you excellent videos. Your previous vid I see is the actual Trusoxin mask same as mine..... I wonder is it the same manufacturer of the two masks?.... One question I have is the shade adjustment knob has two numbers for one adjustment level....... What is that all about I think? All numbers these days are getting smaller by the minute ,and I do mean ALL indication writing.
@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10
@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! The double numbers is actually two scales depending on if you have the switch in weld or cut. When the switch is in cut mode the scale on that darkness is 5-9. When you have the switch in weld mode the scale is 9-13 for darkness. Hope this explains the double numbers to you.

Thank you for this video. One thing I’ve read in Amazon reviews is that there’s a gradient from top to bottom where it gets darker the lower you look through the window. Have you noticed this and does it negatively impact your welding? I’m considering ordering this as my first welding helmet and just want to make sure I protect my already crappy eyesight lol
@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10
@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you, I hope the video helped you out with your decision. I haven't noticed any difference in darkness from top to bottom on the viewing window. My opinion is it's a great helmet for the money. I use some additional lights for shooting video at my welding table. They do affect the darkening from time to time. Through trial and error I have noticed that if I turn the sensitivity all the way up to "HI" it seems to work well with the additional lights. YesWelder also has a 1 year warranty with this helmet and they responded quickly to my emails if you have any issues. Be confident that it is a great helmet for the money and if you have a problem with it, YesWelder will respond and resolve any issues you may have if necessary.

Yes I had some flashing welding in my garage. I had to turn the sensitivity all the way up as sensitive as it will go and turn the delay all the way to the lowest setting. That seems to have stopped the flashing. I have sent an email to YesWelder to find out what to do about it and they sent the request to Amazon. Amazon refunded me on the helmet. I haven't determined if the issue is just this model or if they are having problems with all their hoods. As soon as I learn more about this issue, I'll be making a video telling what I have learned. At least YesWelder 1 year warranty has been good and they were pretty quick to issue a refund. Good question!

Boris, It's been doing well lately with the sensitivity turned all the way up to "HI". I think it has something to do with the lights I use to film with. During the day with plenty of daylight coming through my window I don't have any problems. When it would flash seemed to be when it was dark out and I had my filming lights turned on in the garage. Strange! I did notice that one of the four sensors is shiny and the other three are flat black so maybe I have a bad sensor and that's whats causing the issue. I do still use this helmet for all my welding incase you are wondering. Hope this helps you out.

@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10

Hi Keith, I have two types of cheater lenses. One with a clear plastic frame and those fit easily into the YW welding hoods. The other ones I purchased are actually glass lenses with a black frame and those are a little thicker than the clear plastic one. The black frame lens doesn't slip into the welding hood smooth and easy like the clear plastic one. I have to fiddle with it more to get it into position. I think it's just two different manufacturers or styles of cheater lenses. Some of my videos have links to the clear frame and some have links to the black frame lenses. This is because at one point the clear frame lenses were not available on Amazon so I had to find a different lens and I ended up buying the black frame ones with the glass lenses but I don't like that version as well as I did the cheaper plastic clear frame lens.

Just sharing my experience. Mines didn't have the true color lens like yours. It has the green tint like normal helmets. Also mines has slow reaction to the arc and has flashing during welding. Customer support did offer either replacement or refund. I rather to not try it again. My cheap $35 helmet from ebay made me more satisfied.

I measured the inner circumference around the headband with it opened up to the largest setting. It came out to 25-1/2 inches. It's not real easy to do but I measured it several times and came up with the same 25-1/2 inches. The hat size charts I could find on the internet say 25-3/4 to 26 inches equal a hat size of 8 1/4 so it's going to be close. Just incase you are not familiar, Amazon does have a good return system and policy in my opinion if it doesn't fit you. You may or may not want to deal with that but that decision would be up to you. Hope this gives you the information you were looking for. 😀

Do welding helmets (I have the new Vulcan HF helmet) have certification(s) that let us know if they are indeed protecting our eyesight? I figure for as long as HF has been selling auto-darkening helmets if there was a problem with the protection we would have heard about it by now. What are your thoughts on this?
@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10
@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10 4 жыл бұрын
In the United States, the industry standard for welding helmets is ANSI Z87.1+ which specifies performance of a wide variety of eye protection devices. The standard requires that auto-darkening helmets provide full protection against both UV and IR even when they are not in the darkened state.[6] The standard is voluntary, so buyers should confirm that the helmet is ANSI Z87.1 compliant (indicated by appropriate labeling). Both my Harbor Freight and Yeswelder welding helmets have the ANSI Z87.1 approval listed on the back of the auto darkening screen. It may or may not be actually "approved" because they are both made in China and China is well known for counter-fit items. (IMO) I do know that my Harbor Freight helmet does protect my eyes from radiation burn and UV even when the auto darkening screen isn't auto darkening. I found this out when I welded a couple of beads with it before I finally figured out that the batteries had died. I did see spots for several minutes after welding but my eyes returned to normal in only a few minutes. I never did experience any of the "sand in the eyes" symptoms that people describe when they get "radiation burn" from being flashed by a welding arc. (I personally have never experienced that) My guess is probably all auto darkening screens are made by only a few or maybe even one company. I'm guessing that they probably all use the same UV and IR protected glass no matter what the helmet brand is. I would also guess that all welding helmets are made in China no matter the brand. I think the price differences are based on Brand Name, Features, Build Quality of the hood and head gear.
@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10
@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10 4 жыл бұрын
When my HF helmet batteries died I did quite a bit of internet research on welding helmets. Up until I did this research I thought that if the batteries died in an auto darkening helmet your eyes would be flashed and you would get IR burn from the welding arc. I was wrong! I learned that most if not all auto darkening units have IR and UV protection built into the glass. Even without darkening they will protect your eyes from IR and UV rays. The IR rays, from what I understand, are what causes the most pain and damage. Even a clear set of safety glasses have IR and UV protection. I didn't know that either. Here is a real good video by AVE on this subject with testing to prove this if you are interested. kzbin.info/www/bejne/p37clomOqqqfobM

@@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10 It's important to wear ANSI Z87.1 approved CLEAR safety glasses underneath your welding hood because if you ever accidentally strike an arc with your hood in the up position, you will at least block a large percentage of the UV radiation from the arc even with CLEAR safety glasses on. Most people think clear safety glasses won't shield you from UV radiation because it's not shaded, but in reality they do. Do NOT try to weld with just safety glasses. I'm only stating that wearing safety glasses underneath your welding hood provides an extra layer of protection to the eyes. Many welding schools require safety glasses to be worn underneath the hood.

That doesn't sound right but have you tried to weld with the helmet? I would set the shade level on about 10 or 11, set the delay about half way and sensitivity on HI and see if it darkens when you strike an arc. Or just strike a Bic lighter in front of the screen with the helmet on and see if it darkens momentarily. It also has a test button on the inside I believe. Does it darken when you push the test button?

Just buy a $300 helmet it’ll be worth it, I’ve been using this helmet for about half a year for my full time job, the front screen protector warps and detaches pretty easily so all the smoke and gas will get into the helmet and get the screen on the inside dirty, the censors are placed in a bad spot so welding at awkward angles doesn’t really word too well because the screen doesn’t darken, after a couple months the helmets delay starting to get worse and worse even after a battery swap so I’d pretty much get flashed every time I’d start welding, and overall it’s tooooo dark during the weld, it’s very difficult to see the pool and everything around the pool even the path your trying to stay on, I’d give this helmet a strong 2 out of 10 starts

I bought the Yeswelder brand helmet in this video. But my God it is ugly! The stickers are painted on, they aren't removeable, and so you are stuck with those awful "Yeswelder" logos all over it. I don't know why they thought it was a good idea putting those labels on there. It gives it a real cheap Harbor Freight style. If it was black, with a small logo, it would look like a $500 helmet. The Esab A40 Savage is much better looking, and flat black, but it costs $140. The Viking helmets have some pretty bad reliability according to reviews on Amazon, as multiple people have had sudden failures, and multiple DOA helmets purchased new. I'm debating suffering the ugly Yeswelder helmet, as the Esab is industrial quality for only $60 more. But the Yeswelder helmet is well designed, and the head band feels like little baby kittens, it's such a nice head band I don't know if I can return it. So, I might just paint the helmet with spraypaint, and then spray it with "Diamond Coat" extra hard spray can clearcoat.
