I've always ridden short steep XC bikes and last year went looking for something new. Tried many of the bikes in this class and had trouble adjusting to the longer, lower and slacker geo. Great down hill, but I felt that they wallowed and were very vague on the climbs and felt ponderous in the tighter turns. Maybe I would learn how to ride them, but when I tried the SB115 on the trails, it just felt right. Small bump compliance is incredible and is so much more stable that the XC race bikes i have always have ridden in the past. Being in my mid 60s, I wanted a fun bike to ride and and didn't beat me up and found it in the SB115.

This summer my wife and I sold our SB4.5 bikes and made out very well. We turned around and bought two SB115's from Salt Cycles. Along with some of Chris' custom built carbon wheels, these bikes are a blast! This is the bike that the SB4.5 wanted to be, but missed a little bit. As you stated, the bike climbs really well. times were cut down 10%-15%. When you point this bike downhill, the only thing that limits it is my fear to go too fast and lose it. This bike wants to go fast and be pushed beyond what you would think it's capabilities are. Your review is pretty spot on. I’ve had mine since October 2020. I came from a trek Top Fuel from racing. I’m overall faster on this and it’s a lot more fun. I felt like I made a mistake for the first 3 weeks of riding, then everything clicked and I started PRing everything. Great bike

I own a SB100 since one year. Your video helped me to decide me for it. No regrets at all! I setted it up as a XC-/Marathonbike with light wheels and tires. The Bike is just a rocket on long days with lots of climbing. Like you said, it gets a bit nerves on too fast and ruff stuff. So the 115 should do a bit better there. Otherwise, these short travel Yetis rip on long and sporty racedays. If somebody is looking for a hardcore Marathonbike, this is it!!

Nice review. I picked up an SB115 custom build in Oct. I ride mostly flow trails or tight east coast single track. I can’t think of a better bike for those circumstances. On bigger bikes, I feel like I’m just passenger and I’m just rolling and bashing through stuff. And when things get tight, bikes with slacker geometries just feel clumsier. The SB115 feels like scalpel in comparison. I would call it a trail oriented XC bike and maybe that’s what turns some people off. For me, a big part of the fun in descending is actively piloting the bike vs just being along for the ride. The SB115 is perfect for that. Of course, a lot depends on the type of trail it’s being ridden on. For the trails that I ride 95% of the time (I’m just riding for fun, not racing), I can’t think of bike that I like more. By the way, I have a set of I9 101 Trail S wheels (with Specialized Ground Control 2.3 tires on mine. Are there substantial benefits to going with a wheel with a carbon rim?

Totally agree. This bike has made me fall in love with riding all over again. I'm on an XL and the ease of which I can flick it around or just point it and watch it go is insane. You always hear about longer...slacker and more gnarly focused bikes these days - and dont get me wrong there's a place in the market for that. But if 'downcountry' is wrong...I sure as hell don't wanna be right!

I'll add one thing. I've seen reviews that didn't like it as much as other hard core cross country bikes. Like the geometry isn't slack enough. I agree with you though, this bike fills a slot in their line up that to me is perfect. It's fun and turns great, which is what most average mountain bikers want to do. If you mainly want to fly down mountains, then maybe get a SB130LR...ha. Or get both!

One of the reasons I LOVE this reviewer is he is totally "objective", he is not sponsored by any of the big Bike Makers so he is free to tell you exactly how they compare to one another, (AND HE DOES JUST THAT) so you learn a lot and save a ton of time as he does the homework for you, invaluable. Other reviewers basically tell you 'everything' is good, and God forbid they ever compare one brand/model to the other, it's absurd. They forgot what the purpose of a review is. Own the 100 & the 115 with a dpx2. I’ve also owned the 4.5, sb130, all 4 Ripley gen’s, and 1st /2nd gen trail 429’s. The 115 with dpx2 has been my fav. For the exact reason you described. XC speed with excellent / fun trail manners and it’s sooo damn sexy!! If I still lived in Utah the 115 and switchblade would be my combo.

Love the channel and your reviews. Was stoked to see this one as my Yeti SB 115 is arriving this month! Can't wait to get on it, it's my first full suspension and with all the great bikes out there it was definitely a tough decision. Great looking bike! Especially that white. I like the sb100/sb115 look much better than the newer designs (sb130 and sb150) which have a wide towerish area above the bottom bracket. I like the fun you had with editing too!

Had the chance to ride the 115 recently on a few rides. I own a 130CLR and I agree with all your assessments other than I don’t feel that the 130LR wants to blow through corners. Maybe I ride a bit more forward than I think. As for the 115 it’s a little rocket! Has a lot of fun on it as well. I told a friend that I think it could be the bike that could serve as 90% of what I ride, a dirt jumper and on longer XC type rides. It really is a lot of fun. The one thing that surprised me was that the build on the 115 was a C2 (GX) with Reynold carbon wheels and it weighed in at 32.6lbs. My 130CLR (GX) with I9 wheels weighs 33.9lbs. I though the 115 would have been a bit lighter. Saw a lot of carbon on the one you are riding so it might be sub 30lbs. Great video!

I own the SB130 and love it, but I also experience the same thing with it wanting to understeer in corners. It loves to go fast though. I have a SB115 on order and set to arrive in a month or so. I can hardly wait, especially after this review. I frequently go to a very tight twisty flow type of trail and I think this will be the perfect bike for it. Actually, I think it will be my main ride for most Eastern PA trails. Thanks for the review.

Hey bro! Thanks for the awesome video! Your videos comparing the pivots (switchblade, 429, firebird) convinced me to get a switchblade two years ago and it’s by far been my favorite bike ever. However, I promised myself if I didn’t make it out to Pisgah at least once last year then I was going to force myself to look at a shorter travel bike. I’m in central NC where I climb 1000 feet over 10 miles with short punchy ips and downs with no such thing as an extended descent. I’ve got a guy wanting to trade me for an sb115. I’m cash poor (otherwise I’d buy a Mach 4sl) and wondering what your thoughts are. Is it much more fun and poppy than a switchblade? Will I be good on a 30 mile xc race? What do you think I’ll miss from the switchblade?

The SB115 has geo that leans to the XC side. The Ripley AF size-L has a front center of 785mm and the SB115 size-L has a front center of 744mm. That's a big difference! I would like to see Yeti come out with a bike that compares to the Spur geometry wise. The SB115 has an identity crisis with XC geometry but a heavy Trailbike build. I'd rather have a light-weight XC build with Trailbike geo.

Yeah, I think a lot of people are really enjoying and finding this new segment of bike to be very useful. Sort of an "enduro" geo on a short travel bike. For a lot of people out there, this is the best option! Talk more about this in my next video.... the Pivot Trail 429

I am 6ft 1 over 200 on a xl SB115 I have no idea what your talking about with it being flimsy. The bike rides and handles great I found I needed more air than what Yeti recommends, and I think the Fox forks suck they dont absorb small bumps fast at all. The shocks dont have the separate slow speed adjustment like a Rockshox has. This reminds me of Shimano reviews that say lower end gear shifts as good as xt or xtr and thats complete nonsense. I have been riding since the 90s when Schwinn was a real bike company and Lawill made to me the first real suspension on a mountain bike while I am no expert I think your review is off.

You should make a video review of your sb115 so people can get an idea of what the bike is like for your riding style, speed and terrain. The purpose of the riding footage is to illustrate speed, terrain and ability…. and entertainment I guess. If you don’t think it’s flimsy make a video showing situations where it isn’t flimsy for you 👍

Love my 115. I have the 9point8 headset which slackens the head angle to ~66* and increases the wheelbase (still have to measure). I swapped to the SC fork and 1550g wheel set with Forkaster/Rekon. So much fun, light, and rips (for my skill level at least).

Got my sb100 just over a year ago now and i just love it. I have it set it up as a short travel trail bike because that’s what i wanted and that’s how it rides for me. I do think that if you wanted to, you could easily set it up as a XC ride and be equally pleased.

I put a Wolftooth angleset headset on my Ripley V4 to make the HTA 67.5* and it makes it more fun and nimble like this bike. I'll put the stock headset back in when I go to the mountains for the summer.

Interesting indeed! He sold me on the Trail 429 and I certainly wasn't dissatisfied. Looking for a new bike now, leaning toward a Santa Cruz Tallboy. This video gave me pause. But at 230 pounds, 5'7". This might not be the right bike for me. Just love this guy though!!! I may spend my summer vacation on his trail with my 2 boys. Looks like an incredible blast!

Both are good bikes but the new Trail 429 will out climb the Tallboy and it's not even close.... on the downhill, they're about even but the T429 will be a pound or so lighter weight.

Yumyum, I watch a ton of your videos, I need your take. I'm 6' 230 pounds and you talk about weight and squash on the bike. What is your recommendation on a bike if you way that much? Great review. I am a fairly new owner to the 100 and love it so far. Is that a 65mm or 50mm stem, btw? I am thinking of upgrading to Enve cockpit with M6 bar, probably low rise... Agree with the tyres... I love the DHF and Aggressor and I'll keep them in a separate wheelset (stock) for when I am going to specific trails (sharper rocks) but I am going with Rekon 2.4 and Rekon Race back which is what suits my usual riding and terrain best... I am setting it up more XCish oriented

Hey Yum Yum! Love your channel. You mentioned riding lighter tires. I have the same bike, and I'm looking to shave some grams, but keep the rowdy nature. Would you say a rekon 2.25 r with a 2.4 f would be a good combo? You have a lighter combo that worked well in your testing?

Right now I'm running a 2.4 Rekon front and 2.35 Rekon Race rear. You might consider the 2.35 Ardent Race rear though... or for more traction and braking, 2.4 Rekon front and rear. Good luck!! No issues with 2.35.... I think you'll be fine w 2.4's as long as you dont have crazy wide wheels... like 35mm internal

@@mtbyumyum I can't tell you how helpful this has been. I'm getting Hunt's with 24mm internals (1517 grams). Those plus the lighter rubber will take over 2.5 lbs off my bike. Can you tell I'm a roadie? Honestly, the SB115 is so good that it feels weightless pedaling, but pushing it up the hill, or lifting it over a fence is another story... Really appreciate that you took the time to reply to me. While I was waiting for my bike to be delivered, I watched your SB115 video over and over to get pumped up! Thanks for the review. I noticed this bike has the grip 2 damper on it. For the short travel range do you think the grip 2 is overkill versus the fit 4? The logic being that there isn’t enough travel to really get full use of the grip 2’s adjustments while the fit4 has the three lockout modes that may be more useful for most riders.

@@mtbyumyum I think you might have misinterpreted what I was trying to say. What I meant was, I like that you don't have any sponsors or are trying to make KZbin a full time job (maybe you are idk). To me, it gives you much more credibility and why your opinions on bikes are so influential. However, I noticed on this Yeti 115 video you added in some new elements like the clips and the words popping up and made me think you might be trying to move towards entertainment over information. Thanks! Yeah, I am trying to create a better product. After years of doing this with essentially no pay, I've grown weary of all the work.... I need to start making a better product "video" to attract the attention of either a bigger audience or a potential sponsor or something to start making this make sense. I don't think most people realize how much goes into this channel. I'm realizing now why everyone else gets sponsors or do something to better monetize their channel.... it's a lot of work! See my comments from tonight on the SB115. I'm 56 and weigh about 190 and have had no issues with the flex. I run the air in the shock a little higher because this bike loves to jump and I want to avoid bottoming out the travel all the time. This bike loves to fly.

I live in Michigan and all my trails are flowy, fast, twisty quick turns and lots of rollers. I have owned the Gen 2 Ibis Ripley since 2015 and have really enjoyed that bike but it's time for a new bike. I rode the Ripley Gen 4 last summer a few times and loved it. I also just rode a Yeti Sb115 and love it. Since it has basically been 9 months between riding each bike I really can't remember how the Ripley Gen 4 stacked against the SB115. Going off my terrain what would you get? I can get the Yeti SE by mid May and the Ibis I wouldn't get until early Fall. I am leaning Yeti SB115 SE. What do you think?

Love these reviews thanks. You pushed me to get the 130LR for the “pinability” of the bike and you were dead right. Load up the front, pay attention and the bike rips like no other. Slack off (up or down) and the bike will punish you. Still getting the hang of it (tips/video on that would be awesome) and it’s all smiles on the down, actually getting PRs on my climbs coming from a SB4.5 (getting in better shape too). Brings me to my question, is there a place in the stable for the 4.5? Rode it the other day and wow can it accelerate, but coming down some rocky chunder it was painful to go so slow and dance around the lines. No doubt on more buff trails this bike is a blast just debating when I would pull out this vs the LR. Re watched your 4.5 vs 100 review..... Wondering if I should be on the lookout for a deal on the 115/Ripley/that kink of bike. Keep the 4.5 (ride it when?). Or go one bike stable for a while. Keep doing what you’re doing you have my support! Wish I could get out there and ride those epic trails! Still some good spots to be found San Diego..... 6’5” 210 geared up if it helps.

As always, another excellent bike review! I do, however, respectfully disagree on your comment about the Spur wanting to blow out corners like the SB130. I've been riding my new Spur for just over a month now and this thing is incredibly agile and steering input extremely responsive. I find myself whipping through corners much quicker on the Spur than with my previous bikes (Scott Genius and Giant Trance.) The Spur you reviewed a while back was too big for you (LG with a 480mm reach vs the SB115 in MD with a 430mm reach!) Anyway, there's always that one guy that has to argue with you... 😁 Love the channel; keep up the great work!

haha Thanks for weighing in!! The Spur I rode was a medium but you're right, there was something different about that bike... it had 800mm bars that were throwing me off a bit... I was able to ride the Ripley and Spur back-to-back and 100% the Ripley is quicker in the tight sections of trail and more maneuverable in my experience. And this 115 is even more so than my Ripley. ymmv!

How would you describe the comparison on the 2020 Santa Cruz Tallboy. I know you tested both and would hear your thoughts. Do you fell this is well ahead on climbing vs the 2020 Tallboy? I have a tallboy and thinking about going with this Sb115. I miss the playfulness of the 5010 but want to bring back that same feeling on 5010 with 29 inch wheels and better climbing speed.

Hey so I have been watching your videos lately and this one was really interesting. I currently ride a T429 the previous version then the one on the video. I Am 5'9" and weight 195-205lbs. I ride in the Northeast (Cape Cod, MA) to be exact, here we have some decent climbs, a lot of rock gardens and obviously jumps. The T429 is my first MTB ever. As a kid I use to just ride a BMX bike but nothing special until now. Couple of months ago I order the 2021 Switchblade XT/XTR W/ Live Valve Build. As of today we are looking at maybe August for the bike to come in from Pivot. The reason why I want to transition from the T429 to the Switchblade is simply because I was maxing out my suspension on my T429. As I progress in my riding, I want to be able to take on bigger jumps, Drops, etc. I have been looking for the right answer as to which is best for my style of riding and for my body. We have come to the conclusion that the T429 is awesome but I cannot use it as my do it all bike. The Switchblade, will give me that versatility to climb as good as the T429 and also be ready for any bike park or jumping scenarios. The only way that I could keep my T429 is if I was to get a DH style bike for those kinds of days. Hope this helps!

Hey Jason--i sold my 2019 Instinct BC maybe 6 months ago and thinking of one of these, the shop where i bought mine [CBI] in Idaho has a 2021 special edition for $8600.00 and they will give 10% off + free shipping and i live in NC so no sales tax. This one has the XTR but not carbon wheels, they are XM1700 alloy so heavy compared to say DT XMC 1200 Do you think the 115 is better than the Trail 429 because i am looking at both?

I’ve thought the exact same thing about the tire setup coming from Yeti. Out of curiosity, what tires do you run on your Ripley? I also have a 130 but have been looking to supplement it with something that rolls faster and is more playful. The 130 with big tires is overkill for flatter, flower trails.

Maybe I missed it, but how do you feel it compares to the the 100 in feel? I love my 100 and beat the hell out of it...possibly more than it was designed for, but it’s always unfazed. Part of me wants a little more plushness, but my XL frame with pedals is under 26 pounds. If I bought a 115 frame, I’d have to step the fork up from the Fox stepcast 120. I agree . I feel like every review that i see on the sb115 rates it dead last for the category it’s in. But a couple years ago, when the sb100 came out those same channels raved about that bike. I don’t get why they would have some hate on the more capable version of the original bike they liked so much.

@@broadside11 When the SB100 came out, modern progressive geo hadn't crept down to short travel Trailbikes. So the SB100 geo wasn't much different than other short-travel Trailbikes. Fast forward a few years to the present and 76* STA and 65* HTA was become the norm for Trailbikes. Personally, I prefer bikes with geo like the Spur because they descend better and handle so much better at high speeds. I think most Trail riders would prefer bikes that have modern geo like the Spur, Ripley/Ripley AF, Tallboy, Trail 429. However, that doesn't mean the SB100/SB115 aren't great bikes but they won't descend as well as modern geo bikes.

I wouldn't say I'm the opposite exactly and I don't hate the Spur but I've probably talked a dozen people or more into a different bike haha the Spur has it's place in the world but I think there are better options in the category. This is one of the contenders for my next bike but one thing: Do you have any experience with the maintenance? Their FAQ:s is great & answers alot of the common questions (take note manufactures, something as easy as "Max chainring that fits on the bike" should always be answered), but other than the 40h lube service for the grease ports, i can't find how often the switch infinity "shock"/unit itself should be serviced, or is that what the 40h grease port fillers are referencing, no other maintenance it? I must be blind

I'll have one of the guys from Salt Cycles hop on here and answer. I know Yeti had some issues with the SB100 Switch Infinity link early on... I never had any issues with mine over 8 months of ownership and about 800 miles. I've heard the SB115 has been very good without any issues.

Another good review, Jason. Sounds like a great bike. Interesting comment about the Mojo 4 being fun like this. If you look at geo numbers, this bike looks like the big wheeled version of the previous version, the Mojo 3. Personally, I think that Ibis went too long in the new M4. It seems more like a mini HD4 instead of the true successor to the M3. But I get it. Nice to see some brands not go Norco/Kona/Transition long. I don't want my trail bike to ride like an enduro bike. Can't wait to hear about the new T429! \m/

You briefly compared it to the Revel Ranger. Do you have a video review of that coming out? I haven’t seen one on your channel yet. I have an SB100 and, as much as I love the handling and suspension feel, the Switch Infinity link is a lot more maintenance-intensive than I would like. The Ranger has been on my shortlist of bikes to replace it but I haven’t gotten to demo it.

Im 6'1 30in inseam and fit the L well. These do have a lower stand over so the L might still work well for you. It would just give you the longer reach but a lot of new bikes are coming premade like.

Buuuut if you are looking for a lightweight trail bike on a "budget", the 5-6k Spur will be 3-5 lbs lighter than a 5-6k SB115/Ripley. Price per pound is tough to beat, but you can make any bike more light and fun if you have the $$$... ya know?

With supposedly a new rear triangle for 2022 (are you able to confirm) do you think it will help with bike stiffness? Also, do you attribute the Pivot Trail 429 superior stiffness is due to the super boost rear axle/wheel?

Hard to say... the Pivot bikes are just more stiff and feel like they're build burlier. Could be from the super boost tho... About the rear triangle, I'm not sure it's any stiffer for sure... the changes were more to solve the switch infinity problems they were having on the sb100.... that was my understanding.

@@mtbyumyum thank-you for the response! For 2022 model, Yeti supposedly modified the rear triangle to accommodate larger tires 2.4” vs 2.3” from previous gen. They also updated the chain guard to be in line with the ARC version (shark fin). Not sure if there are any other benefits from this reported new rear triangle. When the SB115 launched Yeti made all the tweaks to the SI to ‘hopefully’ prevent the bolts from backing out, that was a known issue on the SB100. I haven’t seen or heard of any SB115s loosening as of yet. I do generally agree, from my brief demo experience, Pivot carbon frames have always been stout.

always great reviews...i think the thing that got me moving away from this bike compared to the Spur, Epic Evo, or Ranger is the weight and the geo just seems 2yrs behind....27.8lbs is its best weight according to Yeti, of course you can find ways probably wheels to build lighter...if you are racing long distance XC, or long days in the saddle w/ challenging terrain, you want lighter than 25lbs and geo that won't stress your body... if you want a fun trail bike for 10-20mi rides, then yes it's fine but you have to spend $8K to get there. Spend 2K less and you get to 25lbs on the Spur or Ranger or Epic Evo with more progressive geo that doesn't feel cramped in the cockpit.
