Thank you, Samuele, for your heartfelt comment. Yeti and I really appreciate it. Quarantine has been tough. Stay safe and healthy. I’m super honest about the breed, because too many Samoyeds are adopted by people who don’t understand the breed. Their owners send them to dog shelters, because of their lack of knowledge on how to work with them. I want to help stop that from happening. So, I started Yeti’s Place. Thanks for being a great international fan.

Hi from uk, my Samoyed just 4,5 month old but I would like to share my tips which worked really well and show the result in a small puppy already First of all for biting- for me personally just a firm strict voice command “ NO BITING” works best. Because I have a family, kids and friends coming over, so that puppy hurt voice cannot work every time, I mean it’s a very good tip but if you have to deal with other people around it could look weird and it’s better to teach your puppy a simple word command which he will learn pretty fast. As this lady rightly mentioned, Samoyeds are a very intelligent breed! My puppy is just 4,5 month old but he already learned so many commands- ‘No biting’, ‘ ‘Stay’,( to sit and wait for something) ‘Wait( to stop what ever he’s up to and wait for my other command or my actions) sit, Go bed’( to go lie down), ‘ no cat( I have 2 cats and he used to chase them, now the just peacefully chill around the house). Many more , I just mentioned the main Please keep your commands simple, no normal grammar. It’s easier for the dog to learn and understand if the command as simple as possible. As I mentioned I have 2 cats, so I don’t tell him, don’t chase Simba or Fluffy( my cats names), I just say NO CAT in a strict voice, you don’t even need to yell . Just a strict firm kind of voice works well I would of shared so much more tips. I don’t meant to say that the tips on the video are wrong , I’m just saying you need to work with what ever environment you have around.

Another command he knows well “ GO PEE”, cause he’s still very young and I let him out to the garden to pee. So when I tell him and he actually doesn’t want to pee he gives me such look😕, I immediately understand what he means. and it’s in everything. He already communicate in his facial expressions and body language They are definitely are very intelligent breed

Those are great tips. Sammies are very smart and each one is completely different from the other. My first Sam, understood sentences and would respond to full sentences better than one or 2 word commands. When I’d tell him to sit or stay, he’d look at me like, really Mom? No, I think I’d rather do this thing instead. When I’d reason with him, like a child, he absorbed it and would sit and stay. Yeti is different than that Sam had been. Yeti prefers simple commands, mixed with serous playtime. He’ll sit, if you kinda bribe him. You have to be holding or about to give him something he wants. Treat, toy, sled pulling, a specific task. Then he’ll do whatever you ask him to do. My first Sam responded extremely well to growling, when he was first brought home at 8 weeks. Before 12 weeks, he understood and I, of course, had been mixing ‘no’ in with growling.

Hi! I have a question because I’m thinking about getting a Sammy of my own. Do you think a Samoyed would behave well if he just got one 30-40 minute walk during the day? I only have time in the evenings for walks. But afterwards the puppy could play in the yard.
@YetisPlace
@YetisPlace 2 жыл бұрын
A 30-40 minute walk would be nice for your Sammy. It would help take the edge off their crazy energy. While they’re young, be sure to bring them outside frequently. Crate train while young, for their safety and the safety of your home. Sammies don’t do well playing on their own. They need their people to play with them, so be sure you’re in the yard playing with them.

My dream is to adopt a samoyed, but I'm unsure because I have 3 cats and I'm a kinda scared of their predatory instinct. I have had Golden Retrievers in the past but I never had a Samoyed... If you have advice to help me to integrate a Samoyed into a cat family, or experiences that you want to share with me, I will be very grateful. 🙏🏻❤ Samoyeds are fluffy clouds, with beautiful and energetic personalities that I love and I really would like to have the experience of owning one
@YetisPlace
@YetisPlace 6 ай бұрын
Yes, a Sammy is extremely predatory. However, provided you show the Sammy your love for your cat and teach them to love them to love same way, a Sam will do fine with cats. How to teach them to love a cat, is by showing them. Cuddle with your cat. Give your cats the exact same type of love you give your Sam. Always supervise your Sam while around your cats, until your Sam begins to understand your cats belong in your house. Once they learn that, cats and Sams will be fine.

Completely normal. Puppies begin growing permanent teeth early. Their permanent teeth aren’t as razor sharp as their baby teeth. If you have questions, it doesn’t hurt to call your vet.

The smell of socks, smell just like us. That’s why our Sams love them so much. You’re getting 2 Sammies?! Chewy, my first Sam, had a year and a half older brother, named Brumus. Same Mom and Dad dog. Brumus was owned by Quimby and Bigby’s owners. They had such a special relationship. My Uncle, owned their mother, Ready, once she was done breeding. Chewy looked just like Ready.

I’m sorry, I misunderstood when you said brother. Dandy isn’t an older sibling, but is from another genetic line. Breeding Samoyeds, would be a lot of fun, hard work, determination and intense willpower to sell them to a new owner. Yeti’s breeder has been breeding for 50+ years and still gets emotional when sending a puppy off to a new home.

She is a bit sassy😂 my current struggle is mostly in public during walks, she is too excited about everything. Side question, at what age should I take her to her first official groomer?
@YetisPlace
@YetisPlace 2 жыл бұрын
Congratulations, your Sammy pup has entered the velociraptor stage of the game, between 4 months and 2 years. Thankfully, Sams are super friendly, happy dogs, so they just want to say hi everyone and everything. SQUIRRELS, skunks, bunnies, deer, any outdoor animal, they’d like to hunt, but wouldn’t know what to do once they capture it. If it’s a skunk, they’ll be sprayed so next time, a Sam is out for revenge. There are SO many smells on walks. Lots of information. You can probably hear your Sammy squeaking. Whenever she needs professional grooming, bring her. It’s wise if you’re brushing a few times weekly too. Otherwise, you’ll spend an outrageous amount at the groomers. ALWAYS tell the groomer, no trimming, with the exception of beneath their paws and on top of their paws. They can also do some hygienic trimming around their butt.

I am planning to get a samoyed eventually...and a lot of this reminds me of training my cats, I could train them to play fetch, shake hands, sit and high five, but they sometimes just steal my socks and put them places or bring them to me as "gift" and they used to try and eat everything too, the way I deal with it is I just have things they know they are allowed to chew on/play with which works 95% of the time and I also noticed that playfully telling them "we don't do that" in a playful voice disrupts whatever mischievous thing they were trying to do because "oooh attention" and I've had that work on dogs from my family as well
@YetisPlace
@YetisPlace 2 жыл бұрын
It’s helpful you’ve owned other dogs. They’re nothing like cats though. Sammies don’t listen to human commands, unless the commands involve working, like herding, pulling sleds and hunting small animals. Their training has to be centered on doing those things.

@@YetisPlace I know they are nothing like cats, I just meant the stubborn reminded me of my cats. The main reason why I am considering one is because I am disabled and I am considering getting one that will be trained professionally from puppyhood (well 18 months) to be a service dog. They have been on lists I looked at for service dogs and their friendly nature (plus of course their look) is what made me put them on top of my list.
@YetisPlace
@YetisPlace 2 жыл бұрын
Dogs are terrific helpers for those with disabilities. I’m amazed by what they can do. There was a show on Disney+, called ‘Pick Of The Litter,’ about training service dogs. They go through so much to learn how to help you with whatever you need. Yeti and I watched it all and loved every minute of it. It’s a great show that I really recommend. They normally don’t use Samoyeds for service dogs. They’re very smart dogs, one of the smartest breeds out there. However, being a service dog, isn’t in their book of skills. They’re independent thinkers and when they see something they want….ZOOM. You need a dog who listens to you and your commands. Your safety is important and is your dog’s job to keep you safe. They normally use labs, Golden Retrievers and other breeds for service dogs, because of their abilities to listen closely and be very observant of you. Many dogs are unable to make it through the rigorous 18 month training, because the dogs need to be perfect, to keep you safe. Don’t worry though, those dogs who don’t make it through the training, many times go back to their first trainer’s home, as their beloved pet. They get a very good, well loved life, regardless of what happens. If you apply for a service dog, they find the perfect dog who will work best for you and your specific needs. When you qualify for your guide dog, I think they’re free for you. There is an application process, which I’m unsure of how to apply. When you apply, they bring you to their facility, where you live for a number of days, working on learning how to work with your dog. Your dog has the chance to get to know you and what your needs are. If it’s not a good match between you and the dog, the trainers find another dog who would work better for you and your needs. To have your own dog, trained especially for you and your needs, is so special. The show on Disney+, had me crying happy tears during every episode. So heart warming to see.

I gave Xiomara some old shoes to play with and chew so shoes were never a problem with her. With her Dad it was another matter. Once Rockie came to stay and got at my Sweidsh clogs and made one of them unwearable. Just as well they were old ones. Once we were taking care of my son´s Samoyeds while he went away to a wedding. When he was getting dressed for the wedding he found that Rockie had chewed his favourite brown shoes but as they were all he had, he had to wear them. I will have to try the "yip" trick when Xiomara nips a my heels. I always tell her "i don´t like that" when she does it. I haven´t tried the growl trick on her but I do do it with other dogs.... at the same time telling her that i am doing it because she won´t.She is such a girl`s blouse at times. Xiomara is on heat at the moment but at least this time we are not overwhelmed with potential suitors. Perhaps they are all on lockdown.

What breed are you thinking? I would do research to see different breeds’ personalities, what they were bred to do, shedding, exercise needs, etc. Sammies are very active dogs. Extremely intelligent, but they don’t listen well to human commands. If they’re not allowed to be active, they become destructive and eat your house....seriously. Training them is more than sit, stay, come, down. Involve a task they like doing. That can be challenging for a new owner to understand. Adopting an older Sammy, one beyond the age of 2, is a very good dog. They’re like velociraptors between ages of 4 months to 2 years, because they’re like teenagers, stretching their paws. Watching our videos, helps you understand a Sam and know how to overcome their velociraptor-ness.
