While Alex was blunt (and it came across as being more of a case of Rory being delusional rather than lying to them like Alex claimed), I can see his point about how Rory had lead them on a wild goose chase for nothing (this scene makes more sense following the Golden Alpaca's redesign being as he actually seems like a threat following that).

⁠@@cosmicfab7874 Since Alex also has a missing sister, I do think this is supposed to build empathy for Alex, in that “ooh that was shitty but understandable” kind of way. “Nobody cares about your dead sister!” is absolutely what you would expect someone aggressively trying not to think about their own sister (and fractured family) would say. Rory is, intentionally or not, forcing Alex to viscerally confront some truths he is doing everything to avoid. Learning about Allison as you progress through the game really recontextualizes this scene. That’s just in the text. This idea’s more of a reach, but I’d say this is also an early hint at Alex’s reality-warping/shaping abilities. “NOBODY CARES ABOUT YOUR DEAD SISTER”, he decrees, and soon, it is made so.

1) Yosh is correct - or at least, the VA (Yuri Of Wind or something?) has said as much, the devs never confirmed his story. I honestly think he’s perfect casting for this role, in this story, told in this specific way. But I think it’s probably tricky to tell someone “You’re perfect for this role! Your voice is inherently whiny and your delivery inherently unsure! You sound awkward and like you shouldn’t really be here, it’s great!”

This scene doesn't work because its only purpose is to show that Alex is a dick. We already know that, and Rory did something way worse: lie to strangers and coerce them into a situation which almost resulted in all of them being killed. Edit: The scene is actually fine lol. I just had an embarrassingly wrong interpretation of the game. The scene is all about Rory having the same delusion as Alex, which Vella summarily disproves right then and there. Of course, Alex doesn't take it well because of his own experiences and basically wants an excuse to be angry at Rory for "making" him uncomfortable,. His own delusions/maladaptive coping mechanisms causes him to only give a shit about himself. I think i prefer the original Golden Alpaca scene but the new one communicates the story a little better.
