After over ten years of searching, I finally found this thanks to the Doctor Demento website. Hearing this reminds me of Christmases in the 80's as a kid listening to this along with the rest of the Doctor Demento Christmas episodes we had on cassette tape. Man, the memories this brings back.

I remember having this on 7"" single in 1975. I recall the b side was interesting too..Breakfast conversations. Wish someone would put it on KZbin.

@DoctorRadio - I recall them (in a newspaper interview) saying they were bringing out an album of spoofs, after "If" charted. But I've never heard a trace of it.

There was an album, a friend of mine had it at school, lost contact with him years ago, but I do recall hearing an album, there was a dentist sketch and a voice over parody called "Condom" as well as "If' and "Butch Soap" Don't recall hearing this on it though...

Bill and Chris were brilliant - I wish they had done an album together Anyone else got any of their stuff??? The Howard character Chris plays sounds like so many in the industry (no names, no pack drill - Im sure you can all suggest a few!)

Interesting. At least I now know the album they said was coming actually materialised. I assume this single was a Christmas one-off, so wouldn't have been on that album. "If" was the single that started it - and "Butch Soap" was its "b" side. But "Condom" and a dentist sketch are unknown to me - love to hear them if anyone HAS this album. Anyone???

@@shemanic1 And still no-one around having a USB connected record player to digitalise the recording? Because that'll be the only really necessary step.
