A juror who deliberated on whether YNW Melly was guilty of murdering his two friends broke their silence just two weeks after the judge declared a mistrial in the rapper’s double murder case. The former juror detailed how the jury became deadlocked after more than 14 hours of deliberations full of chaos, yelling, and anger. The Law&Crime Network’s Angenette Levy breaks down how many jurors thought Melly was guilty and why the jury could not reach a decision.

They might not have been thrown out seeing as a juror who allegedly had an Apple Watch was not thrown out. I think the jury was biased both ways. There appeared to be enough circumstantial evidence to make Jamel appear guilty. But there was no hard evidence, no motive and no proof that he is guilty. That’s the problem, that fact that the majority of the jury could be swayed to a definitive guilty verdict in the absence of hard evidence and proof beyond a shadow of a doubt shows that there was latent bias already present (no I am not a Melly fan). The reality is even if we all know Melly is guilty that isn’t the legal standard which the court uses as a basis for conviction. The system is reliant on the jury to comply with the legal standard for conviction. However, people have their own motives, vendettas and biases clouding their judgement. Melly by no means looks innocent. If it were down to the public vote he would probably be found guilty. But still there’s doubts to be had. Because the prosecution was flawed, their tactics were underhanded, some of their witnesses had issues, the ‘gang expert’ violated Jamel’s right to see the face of his accuser by hiding under a balaclava, the prosecution has been accused of threatening, bullying and harassing a number of their witnesses into taking the stand and testifying against Melly when they otherwise wouldn’t have. They lacked solid evidence.

Theres simply not enough evidence for Murder 1 charge. People need to understand emotions or opinions have no place in deciding a verdict. Any bias formed should be on the basis of the evidence provided, not the whims of appearance(s) circumstamce or public opinon. The jury was on the right track with 'manslaughter', IF they were leaning towards a guilty verdict; as it is a good compromise given that he's already done 5 years, and was probably was involved, but there is not enough evidence to prove he pulled the trigger.

Dude are you serious? Any logical person would say he likely did it but he should obviously be found not guilty. There are hundreds of reasonable doubts in this case and absolutely no definitive evidence that he did it. No video, DNA, or even a motive. He doesn't need to prove himself innocent. Court isn't supposed to be who you feel like most likely did it or if they most likely did it. It has to be without any single possible doubt. Just the fact there is no hard evidence showing he shot the gun is a reasonable enough doubt to say it's possible he didn't do it. Only a smooth brain who is so ignorant they should rissapear would say that he did it without any single doubt. I'm open to hearing your argument here, but I've seen way more people biased against him than for him. I don't see how any semi intelligent person could say he should be found guilty in court. Even if he most likely did it and you feel like he did it for sure, we still need to uphold our laws and rights for everyone. The prosecution and all the investigations have millions and even billions of dollars or manpower and technology to prove stuff and they barely have anything. That says something when you consider the little evidence they have.

In a deliberation there are conversations as they work through the evidence. You cannot expect for everyone to have the same conclusion at the end of deliberation versus when they started. With that being said, what I got from this was 1 very stubborn outspoken juror was able to point out certain pot holes in the evidence and sway 2 other jurors if reasonable doubt. This my friend is a 9 - 3 at the end of the day. All it takes is 1 juror to bring up a convincing analysis based on what they have seen. It was a tricky trial, even for me when the witness said he switched cars so it is definitely easy to see a few people being on the fence

I completely agree, especially on the inadequate prosecution. It reminded me of a local unseasoned public defender as opposed to the kind of lawyer they usually have in a high profile case like this, let alone it being televised. 🥴 I personally believe that he did it, but I simultaneously don't think the prosecution proved it beyond a reasonable doubt. I believe the evidence was not as good as it ideally should/could have been, but more than that I think that the right lawyer could have gotten the conviction with what they have. though with the evidence alone I do think they did prove that whoever was in the backseat is the shooter... but I don't think objectively that they proved beyond a reasonable doubt that HE was the person in the backseat. The right lawyer, in my opinion, could have sold it that he was. (a REALLY good lawyer could convince us of it even if he was never there lol😂)

Why are people so angry at the jurors? A Jury is to decide individually with a goal of a unanimous decision as a group. If one is to just go with the flow of others, then a jury would consist of one person. Not everyone being tried is guilty and not every jury makes the right decision. I applaud them for thinking for themselves and standing by their decision to not be swayed by the majority of other jurors. A lot of innocent people go to prison because a juror with a thought different than the majority of jurors are afraid to go against the majority and let others think for them.
