AnnenMayKantereit is a really popular Band in Germany from Cologne. To see them live is unbelievable! The Name of the Band are the three last Names of the Members. 😉

Nice reaction. The sad thing with translated lyrics is that they may give you the gist of the original lyrics. But more often than not, they lose so many levels of meaning and emotion and verbal imagery that give a song that much power. When he sings „Ich rauche heute Pflanzen“, for example, he does not explicitly say that he will smoke weed today. He literally sings „I‘ll smoke plants today“. Yes, he‘s referring to weed but it’s worded in such an unusual way that’s both ambiguous (tobacco is a plant too, right?) and really clear (well, of course he means weed). Noone ever talks about smoking „plants“. Weed, grass, herbs and many more synonyms, yes, but „plants“ in general? No. But it sounds so much nicer in this song. The image popping up in your head is so much more lively(plants), than if he was talking about weed instead. It also shows that he‘s in a tired/depressed/quirky/special mood because one probably wouldn‘t use quirky language to himself if he was in a regular state of mind. So many implied layers of context, just by choosing one word over the other. Language is amazing. Another great song by AMK.

the 'eu' in "heut" is pronounced (as I think all 'eu' are in German) like the English exclamation 'oi!' so it's more like 'hoit' the rest was pronounced pretty well. What's funny however is that your pronounciation 'hiüt' (as in 'eww') is *almost* Swiss German. There you just have to skip the 'i' so it's 'hüt'

What do think WEED means? Plants that grow uncontrollably in your garden/yard nobody really wants is called weed. It doesn't mean drugs, but weed is just slang for cannabis.
