I know that fire starts are greatly praised BUT for gen 3 nuzlocks and speedruners mudkip is great. Jaiden only chooses torchic bcs it's her favourite you can go to any Professional nuzlocker and see that they chose mudkip reason: it's good against FOUR OF the eight gyms in the region also it resists the last gym if the last gym in rs and also oras also in kanto speedruners sure do use squirtle but they just use it for hm and replace it but just like mudkip bulbasaur is the greatest options here it's good against the two early gym which is really great it resist the next 2 gyms it's good against every Giovanni battle and for else they are like where gen 1 has a weird design that you can battle them in any order in blain case first beat kogga then so you can surf that means you can easily destroy blain so you see fire start suck like they are THE worst to pick in gen 1 and three there are other gens where this is happening but it will take too much time just don't say that fire starters are best in every generation.

Also fire starters are not hard to find in gen one you get arcanine ninetails rapidash magmar moltres. You got a lot of other options but sure the other types got a lot more options but bcs they are mimiced from real life there are So many water Pokemon(fun fact the most amount of the Pokemon out of every Pokemon are water types)Just like our oceans it isa straight mimic bcs there are so many water creatures and we only haven't even discoverd 97% of our oceans just like plants there are so many plants but there is only fire like it's just one thing so yeah but you got more options like in gen 4 they cut out the national dex in dp but they bring it back in platinum so who plays even dp over platinum now days it's just dp but better.

Fun Fact: when you were talking about IVs & EVs when Jaiden killed all the Marill, Marill gives HPs when one is killed. Those 80+ Marill giving HP boosts allowed ZipZapZop to survive the later Earthquake. I didn’t catch that until much later.

Let me explain: Everyone HATES Double Team. Whenever the opponent uses Double Team, they're going to be MAD about it. Everyone hates evasion. Nothing is more frustrating in Pokemon than not getting to attack.

@@YoBGS If I quit in the middle, their deaths would be in vain! I need to honor their sacrifices, and at least achieve the goal I set out to do in the first place! Honestly, a lot of it is my own mistakes. I'm not so good with the type advantages once you get into steel, dragon, poison, etc, especially with duel types. A lot of it was keeping the wrong mon out front and them getting one shotted. I have 6 of the 8 badges in Pokemon X so far, and I plan on continuing the locke in Alpha Sapphire and Ultra Sun, writing a continuous story from the perspective of the trainer. It was actually Jaiden that inspired me to do this nuzlocke in the first place, and I hope to post my story here on youtube as a narrated comic, as animation is a bit outside my skill range. Here's to Sparkpowder the spewpa, Muffs the ledyba, Scorpion the croagunk, Pinecone the Quilladin (my starter :( ), Sarge the litleo, Wriggles the Spoink, Dune the hippopotas, Polly the minun, Hummer the yanma, Refract the Amaura, Deadra the axew, Bronze the solrock, Yoka the exeggcute, and Fee Fie Foe the dugtrio. It's because of them and my surviving members that I've gotten as far as I did, and hopefully will get to the end. (also realized I miscounted, only lost 14, hopefully I didn't jinx myself)

@@YoBGS The deaths are kind of the point of the nuzlocke. Sometimes things wont go the way you want them to and you have to adapt to that. You end up using pokemon you never would under normal conditions and you end up with some pokemon you looked down on turning into heroes of the run. Resetting the game just because things arent going optimally goes against the spirit of a nuzlocke. You keep going as long you have even a single pokemon left trying to turn a bad situation arround. I've only had one of the first 6 pokemon I catch make it to the very end once. But usually my team at the end is completely different from the start.

@@nabi7701 Yeah! This is why I will ALWAYS defend Bibarel and Bidoof, to the point I beg for them in my platinum runs. Bibarel tanked so much throughout that first run (Her name was Cynthia to appease the champion because oh boi) and tank two attacks from Garchomp before killing it and taking out her final few pokemon. That run Did Not go in my favor and by the time I beat Cynthia, that bibarel was my only pokemon. Love bibarel and bidoof now

about 33:22, no, it's just no use to heal and essentially come back to the same exact situation because it just attacked again. when a mon 2 shots you, healing isn't a good option (with exceptions ofcourse).

Originally 4KIDS handled the English dub of the pokemon anime (until 2005) and they were allowed to pronounce the pokemon names however they wanted. Different studios have done the dub since but all of them were closely monitored by the Pokemon Company to make sure they were correct. This is where inconsistent pronunciations come from (with the exception of Arceus).

Crits are evil. So many dead pokemon from crits, so many failed captures from crits. On average it seems I end up with around 10 deaths in nuzlockes, usually early on.

A good example of how fast you can lose a pokemon to crits can be found in AT4W's Randomized Nuzlock streams for Pokemon Heartgold (and others, he's done it for like 3 games). Poor Sharklameign the Sharpedo and Balteau the Suicune, you will be missed.

The reason she can’t use groudon is because ledgendaries can’t be used in nuzlockes. To everyone saying legendary Pokémon can be used I know that it’s not a concrete rule I should have said that it is not all nuzlocks

That depends on your ruleset since the base rules don't prohibit that, but most do consider using legendaries cheap.

Thats not really true. Theres like 1000+ different variations of nuzlockes with differing rules. Some allow legendaries, some don't. For example some people have a "dragon rage" clause which doesn't count deaths from moves that do a set amount of dmg before one of your pokemon has more HP than 40. Others have rules that prevent in battle items being used and etc. The only definitive rules for something to be considered a nuzlocke are: 1. Can only catch first pokemon on a route 2. Deaths are permanent 3. Pokemon must be nickamed

nazlocks are usually played by a code of honour, so the roles depend on the player. for example, most players won't exchange mons for no reason. i imagine that she didn't use the groudon for a similar reason.

I think some people don’t use legendaries cause it’s kinda cheap and want to give themselves more of a challenge. Same reason a lot of people try not to be over-leveled for gym and often set it so they can’t swap out their pkm for free when they KO an opponent

The reason for ZipZapZop's survival is, i believe, that she was beating Marills. Marill gives HP EVs, so that could possibly have given it enough HP to tank the hit, possibly in addition to a low roll. (I should've checked the comments first, since others have said this. C'est la vie.) Also, as to not using Groudon, a lot of people (myself included) choose not to use legendaries since that'd generally be too easy.

After watching a certain poketuber's reaction to this video, it came to my attention that the HP EVs that Marill gives combined with Magneton's naturally good physical defense stat is what allowed it to survive Altaria's earthquake. So yeah, Marill was literally the perfect training dummy.

I wrote my own Nuzlocke fanfic on DeviantART while I was doing my first Nuzlocke earlier this year in LeafGreen! I wrote it out in-character as if they were diary entries! Jaiden's video was one of my inspirations to do it and I had fun! I managed to get through the whole thing with only five casualties and my starter survived to the end!

In Nuzlockes (or at least the ones I've seen), you can catch Legendary Pokemon to avoid a difficult battle and/or a potential death but you can't use them

It really isn't (at least to my knowledge, haven't been here for that long!) what this channel is about, but I would love to watch you attempt a nuzlocke run! I feel like the way you commentate these videos would really benefit it! I also highly recommend checking some of the videos by Pokémon Challenges, he pretty much only does nuzlockes (especially some on those hard romhacks like Kaizo Blue). His explanations are really thorough and informative. He also is one of those people who stack on multiple other rules (Can't outlevel gym leaders Pokémon, must play on set mode etc.)

I used to be OBSESSED with Pokémon Nuzlocke comics. It's amazing how people can write full, interesting and individual plots from a game with a straight story. Some of these comics are so different from the actual game that I can't even believe they were written based on a gameplay.

I don't personally have a type preference for starters; I usually go in blind, look at the three given and pick the one that appeals the most. Naming though, I absolutely take gender into account, which does affects some predetermined names I have. For example I always name Venusaur 'Venny' as a homage to the Venusaur my younger self stuck by back in the days of Pokémon Blue, but if it's a girl, then it becomes 'Venni'. EVs and IVs I don't particularly care about until after I've gone through the game once and then some, then I'm immediately in competitive mode, researching everything I've missed and breeding the mons I like to be the best they can be, even if they're not exactly best suited for actual competitive.

there is nothing wrong with evasion, the "not honorable" stigma comes from the idea that winning a fight with evasion that could have been won without it is a bit cowardly. The real origins of it comes from the smogon format, in which the butt hurt veterans at the top of the ladder with all the authority to change the format's rules decided to ban evasion tactics all together because they were not fun to fight against. Whether or not you agree with the decision, smogon's reputation has done nothing but plummet over time after the decision, as the existence of bans created problems they had to solve with further bans, to the point that the format is so rigid that it seems like there are a total of 10 legal pokemon in the format, and the ones who decide what gets banned are too afraid of change and try to bend the format so that they never have to change their team to win the format events. smogon is not official, and as before stated, all the problems are byproducts of their own restrictions. The evasion they hate so much has built in counters in the form of never-miss moves (anything whos accuracy stat is labeled as "--", like swift) and setup time that the opponent can strike quickly to avoid the problem all together, and the official VCG (whos biggest problem is corruption and hacking) has no such limitation on evasion, yet very few top teams use evasion tactics to win due to how unreliable they are at top levels. Nuzlocks are challenge runs, and therefore EVs and IVs are not the main focus. Those who are well versed in them and can plan around them might have an advantage, but it is not required. The difficulty of a nuzlock comes mostly down to how it is played. How many extra restrictions (things like never entering your pc to adjust party or never using items in battle unless the pokemon is already holding it)? How willing is the person to grind? a nuzlock that is started by grinding to lvl 100 on the first route is tedious, but makes the challenge generally easier as long as the grinding process does not take unnecessary risks.

If I remember correctly, Double Team is actually one of the only moves banned from competitive battles. Something about an Evasion Clause or something. Anyways, Double Team raises evasion, which is a stat but also not a stat. It influences your opponent's ability to land attacks indirectly. If it was accuracy up or down, it would be a direct influence. At that point, you either use moves that bypass accuracy like Swift and Aura Sphere, or use specific setups that involve weather like Blizzard+Hail or +Thunder. It's not a fun thing to fight against since your ability to hit your opponent depends on their evasion and not your accuracy.

The reason ZipZapZop managed to survive that Earthquake against Altaria is the because Jaiden grinded off of Marills, and Marill gives 2(or 3?) HP EV's, ZZZ's HP was significantly higher than it otherwise would have been. It just so happened that shes killed JUST enough marills to survive Earthquake from full hp.

Regarding the EVs, IIRC another speedrunner said that marril gives 2 HP EVs; killing that many marrils turned ZipZapZop into a *tank* and is the only reason it survived that altaria earthquake.
