I'm so glad you're video popped up just as I was able to give in. I have spent hundreds of dollars as a new producer wondering why the hell I get clicks from the normal Ableton compressor Ive purchased 3rd party devices like LFO tool and Volume shaper and the problem was still there! I'm glad I can now build my template using this in the box side chain method to save CPU and that will make that will make my drums super Effing crispy. I've spent soooooo long trying to figure out the best way to side chain and had been doing my head in, it's so simple but can really make or break your mix and in my opinion is very powerful in making any EDM style.Hands down best video on Ableton side chain there is on KZbin I hope everyone gets as much out of this video as I did! THANK YOU - new sub for sure!

Nice work. This video explains what many Ableton producers are losing sleep over. We want to keep the sidechaining done with in-house plugins (save CPU) and use the power and ease of Ableton. When other videos even talk about dummy clips I shut them off because deep down I knew the answer wasn’t so ridiculous and time consuming. Thank you.

Right on! I recently bought Kickstart 2 because no one explained Ableton's SC capabilities correctly to me. Kickstart 2 I bought because it seemed really simple compared to ShaperBox's not-compatibility with Ableton.

I just tried this today and it worked awesome on the song I was working on. I slowed down some of the attack settings on the Live 10 compressor until it got rid of clicks and it seemed to work too (around 2 or 3ms attack time), I haven’t gotten around to installing the Live 8 compressor, a tutorial on that would be helpful. Thanks so much

you dont need a tutorial for that just download it with the link i provided then drag it from your downloads folder to your ableton session. drag a copy into your user library so its there for future use. and i woudl HIGHLY recommend taking the 6 mins and doing it youll thanks me !

That was a great explanation. The only thing is I don’t understand why you would sidechain everything? In EDM tutorials I only see them putting it on the bass line
@BigJerr5 жыл бұрын
well 1. to my knowledge most EDM artists side china or volume duck everything to the kick and snare and 2. I love a strong kick and snare :)

thanks for this tutorial. i tried dragging the file that came in the zip right onto a track but it's not landing, i'm getting the circle with the / through it... using ableton 9 suite... any ideas?
@MultiOpposites4 жыл бұрын
What if you’re sidechaining the bass to the kick? Is it still important to use the SC function of the kick to focus on just the click? Won’t this cause low end clashes between the tail of the kick and the sub? Assuming your release setting for the compressor is short enough.

once you download it and run with ableton where does the live 8 compressor end up? i searched it in my audio effects and it doesnt come up. someone help? it didnt ask me where to install it or anything just like a normal live pack it just installs with ableton and then it should be available in audio effects so what's my problem here?

How do you get the file of the compressor into a project? I mean do I have to transfer it in a specific file inside Live, as I might do with some MIDI softwares for example?

just drag it from your downloads folder directly into the session

Wouldn't routing every track through the same channel force Ableton to use only one processor thread, making your computer run out of CPU?
@anotherpuppet5 жыл бұрын
Sorry to be a turd, I noticed that in this set you have the kick and hats etc on seperate tracks. In the drop science set you have all the percussion on the one rack/track yet only the kick and snare trigger the compressor and the hihats, clicks, dont. How did you do that? 😛
@bryanhingerton37665 жыл бұрын
Why did you choose the delay time for 1/16 ?

Hey thanks for the great tutorial. Very useful, however I still get some very audible clicking coming thru using this method. I also noticed that especially using the 10ms lookahead, i get some weird phasing happening with the click that interferes with the higher end of the kick itself. Any solutions for this issue? PS I am using Live 9 compressor
@BigJerr5 жыл бұрын
hey glad you liked it, so you said your geting a click...you HAVE TO use the LIVE 8 compressor for your sound to be Click Free - you can set your compressor the exact same but by simply using the Live 8 compressor it will fix the issue with the click ! try it i provided a link to where you can download !

dude im having a hard time finding the tempo to a song i want to record on i got from youtube. Why the hell is finding the tempo of a song so damn hard in ableton? can you do a video on this please. i downloaded a instrumental from youtube and it doesnt tell me the tempo so i use tap tempo but everytime i tap the tempo the instrumental readjust to the tap and becomes out of sync. SMH

your over thinkng it - just take your track into session view - launch it as a clip then hit the tap tempo button :)

@@BigJerr I got an even better tip, or two inf act. One is using LFO tool, but it's another VST one needs to buy. My other solution is send the Midi that the kick receives to another channel that has a very simple Operator. In that OP you can set the attack, decay, release of said note, so it always plays with the kick. Then you mute it, BUT you can use this one Operator click/beep as a side chain source for whatever you want. That means that not only can you also modify how loud that thing is when it triggers the side chain, but you can give it some sustain, a very short release, a longer one, whatever you want. Makes things easier especially if the kick isn't the final version, else you'd have to do it all over again.
