Join me for this gentle yoga practice if you have Functional Neurological Disorder or FND. This practice is suitable for all ages and all levels, even newcomers to yoga. I created this yoga sequence when I was first diagnosed with FND and found it very beneficial to practice it once or twice per day, particularly first thing in the morning, to connect to deep abdominal breathing.
The RAIN technique mentioned in this video is an essential part of the practice in order to recognise, allow and accept our emotions. The RAIN technique is outlined as follows:
R = recognise emotions
A = allow them to be there
I = Investigate non-judgementally after they pass
N = nourish yourself compassionately
Incorporating this technique at the start of our yoga practice allows us to discover and accept whatever we are feeling. Instead of running from our feelings/emotions, we can now face them with this simple but effective practice. We also cater for the N part of the RAIN technique with yoga, by nourishing our body/nervous system with deep abdominal breaths.

I was previously a runner and used to really like yoga as well as workouts on the mat. I have FND & Central Sensitization Syndrome, and I wanted to try yoga again. This is still very challenging but gentle. Thank you!❤

You are very welcome. I was a runner too, many years ago. These days walking and gentle yoga suit me better. I'm glad you found this video useful. I have a video called '10mins of Breathwork' that is similar to this, in that it's very gentle, and you might like to try it too. With any yoga, if a pose doesn't feel good for you or too taxing, pick a pose that you know is a good fit. The magic is in the breathwork. Ciara ❤️

I am a former runner and hiker unfortunately since I was diagnosed with FND I am unable to go in like I used to as it has affected my hip. I just did your 15 min. Yoga and loved it. I will definitely be looking to subscribe to you as well as try our other Yoga's that you have. Thank you for posting this.

very gentle yoga 🧘‍♀️ so good for my 18 year old daughter that was just diagnosed with FND and we are having hard time finding help for her Normal physical therapies don’t work. She has not going to school for 4 weeks and her recovery is so slow . She is emotionally, physically and mentally drained

Hi Miriam, my recovery was very slow too. The diagnosis itself can take a while to get used to. As it’s all very new for your daughter, it’s not surprising that she’s exhausted. Wishing her well in her FND recovery. Recovery is possible. I hope your daughter finds what works for her. x

I don’t have FND, but I do have a neurological disorder (possible spastic paraplegia). This practice is so lovely, gentle, and appropriately challenging.

I too have FND. I try to do meditation and I have done some yoga. Has this fully healed you?

Hi Brian, I only had FND issues once in the last 2.5 years and that was over 1 year ago. Daily yoga, meditation and working on my mental health & my emotional intelligence have been huge for me in my healing. My FND does not affect my life at all now. Consistency with yoga and meditation is key....Having an everyday self-care practice, that I do without fail, has really carried me through the last few years. I hope that helps and I've encouraged you to try a daily yoga practice. Yoga is a great tool for FND healing as it cultivates deep abdominal breathing and it's supportive for our nervous system.
