I cued my first lesson today to my fellow students and Lawd! I was lost of words, I couldn’t even figure out right and left leg! Other difficulties is to teach without doing, I found myself practicing all I said…😀I was directing myself 😅 and my whole lesson I said we are going to… Thanks a lot

I love this advice so much! I am 3 months into my 200 hr YTT and these are great tips as I prepare my very first sequence for practice teach! Thank you so much

Thanks for sharing your tips. Communication can be so tricky. My “yoga voice” feels so different than my real voice and when I watch my videos of classes I feel like I’m going so slow, but likely important. I also feel that it’s very important to have a few breaths of silence in between cues to let the students focus. I also really like to bullet point my scripts for class or I get lost. I like knowing I have something to keep me on track.

Nick, I totally agree with your values and your concepts! I use a similar structure when I coach my students to become certified Pilates teachers and run their own businesses. The formula I teach creates transformations over and over again. My clients come to be because they have had enough of overwhelm, not happy working for someone else, not managing to get by and living paycheck to paycheck. I offer them the possibility to gain a new skill in helping others, which not only gives them personal satisfaction but offers them a very healthy and profitable lifestyle. I'm loving what I do and I thank all my teachers for the skills I can pass on to these people! Sending you love and light!!!

I did my 200 at Kripalu. The one thing they stressed was using only 3 things for cues. Verb > Body Part > Direction. "Lift... Your Right Arm... To The Sky." Simple. That's all you need to know.

Nick, thank you so much! This was incredibly helpful - I have been teaching for a year and really want to take the leap to teach without doing, and this video is really really helping me. Thanks again!!! :) Subscribed

This is good stuff. Thanks for posting all these good reminders in one place. My YTT teacher suggested ending each phrase with "...because I said so." when rehearsing. It forces me to use a more direct and imperative voice. And to put a firm end to each sentence. Of course when actually teaching, I never say that part out loud. :) Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for touching on the active language piece. I'm getting back into teaching after a 2 year of a break and I've been watching some videos just to get some tips and I'm surprised how many teachers on youtube use passive language and cuing in their examples and don't stress the importance of direct, active language. It wasn't taught to me back in 2013 in my 200 hr and I had to train myself and now I am aware and it really sticks out.

"We are going to" comes literally unconsciously to my mouth. My meditation teacher said the same as it can be very irritating to students. As a non english speacker is so easy to use it but definitely not good hahahahha Very good video. Very nervous to start teaching yoga but I will record myself and then auto evaluate my class as you said! :)

The WE could mean the entire group. That doesn't have to include me. We can mean just the group and shows connection and comradery. There's a feeling of 'we are in this together'. One thing that irritates me is when the instructor tells me to breathe in, breathe out....for every.single.breath. They can get me started but to direct every single breath is distracting.
