Shiva is one of the five demigods of Hinduism. He is the creator of Yogaasanas and pranayama. Shiva's devotees pray to him like GOD. In Yoga tradition, we consider him like a teacher.

These stories aren't metaphors for Hatha Yoga practice... The mythology surrounding original Yoga practice is extremely alchemical and Shamanic. Soma was real, and it was THE core element of Yoga... We have lost this respect of nature and psychedelic entheogens. Keep doing your asanas thinking you'll experience God... Soma isn't in your head, it's a psychotropic substance you consume in order to experience this union of Nature & Consciousness.

West want to de-link yoga from hindusm. Western ego is so big that it don't want to acknowledge hinduism. They also hv preconceive idea about hinduism and india.
