Remember peeps Yohan is training specific for a sprint athlete and not for bodybuilding. The aims of his workouts would be to build explosive power as well as improve on his fast twitch muscle fibres. You notice how he does fast reps and on some of the exercises (leg press for example) he only goes half way which is great for building explosive power. Yes his upper half is huge compared to his lower half but having big muscular quads and calfs would slow him down dramatically.

Incorrect. Sprinters do train with compound movements except they aren't in a caloric surplus so they don't get so much bulk. They definitely wanna build some muscle though but they do this by training only once or twice a week max and keeping the volume pretty low. They mostly focus on sprinting all year round but depending on the type of periodization they use, they have training periods where they mostly focus on sprinting and plyometrics and other phases where they focus on stength building by lifting heavier weights. They do do full squats, but half squats and even quarter squats work better because they are more joint angle specific for sprinting.

think about the motion f sprinting, your legs dont bend much bast 35 degrees gie or take, so low squats would build strength in the lower range of the movement which also happens to be your quads

a lot of sprinters think they can play soccer cause they can run fast in a straight line... soccer has a lot of fast changes in speed in different directions which is a quite different than sprinting... also footwork with the ball would be nonexistent in a sprinter....

It's a single-leg glute extension machine. A very poorly designed machine; one is better off using a Nautilus Hip & Back machine or focusing on the bottom portion of a leg press or squat.

Why doesnt he go full range of motion when doin leg press. If he only goes 1/4 of the way, doesnt that mean its too heavy for him
@14CJProductions10 жыл бұрын
Because when you sprint, your legs aren't parallel.
@Rtrumpet110 жыл бұрын
but when sprinting you pick your knee up. In the motion your leg does go higher than what they are doing in the video
@14CJProductions10 жыл бұрын
when u are picking ur knee up u use ur hip flexors, its the opposite movement. Now when the leg comes down, in the direction that a squat or leg press goes, most of the power is created from the "quartersquat" position. Sorry if it sounds confusing, not very eloquent
@Rtrumpet110 жыл бұрын
Chang Jeong No I understood fully. I run track so I knew what you are saying. I just have been always bending 90degrees on leg press
@charles12510 жыл бұрын
Chang Jeong That's true, and I see the value in that method. But at the same time you start from the blocks your leg is almost at a right angle. I'm sure he does both types. Because your hamstring become more involved when you go lower.

*Yohan* ruined his career when he decided to become a bodybuilder instead of a sprinter. *Yohan* allow the nickname of the beast that he trained with a real fervor get to his head. His weight lifting increases his weight from 175 to an (Alleged) current weight of 215 on a slender frame and tiny legs. That added weight not only made him extremely slower, but also more injury prone, as he suffered two devastating hamstring injuries 😢the latter injury caused the muscle to separate from the bone. He never regained that *2011/12* speed since then.... Sad indeed 😢

@@speedstreak914 of course they do lol. Elite Sprinters apply massive amounts of force into the ground. There is a cut off point where more strength won’t necessarily mean more power, but that’s quite high. I’d say most elite sprinters can probably squat in the 400s

+sardis11165 You have to get out of the mindset that squats/deadlifts/cleans are perfect for sprinters. Specific hip flexor and extensor work, as shown in the video, is superior to those exercises for speed development.
@stormspinner90007 жыл бұрын
+neoswordian91 ehh squats and cleans are quite valuable for most sprinters. Especially cleans. They are a staple in nearly every sprinters training. Also squats don't have to be full squats and can instead be half or even quarter squats, where you can use a lot more weight and it's more joint ankle specific resulting in a better transfer. And this applies to advanced sprinters. Less experienced sprinters do use those exercises more often. For the advanced guys, a more specific program is required and those traditional movements won't help them as much because they are already elite.
