This is my first handmade electric guitar,
it took me around 4-5 monthes to finish it.
The woods I used are Basswood for the body and Maple for the neck.
The fretboard is Rosewood.
Finish has been done with Tru-Oil.
Finish of the body was accomplished with some water based filler and color.
I used templates from here:
potvinguitars.com/
and plans from here:

The imperfections in the paint remind me of traditional Japanese raku ware, in which imperfections arising during the final glaze/firing process are highly desirable (“raku” translates as 'happiness in the accident'.) It does take guts. I'm building my first body from scratch now, with a bought neck. Next build I hope to have the courage to go all the way, with everything scratch built! Just working my way into it. Getting the truss rod right seems the hardest to me. I built a few cigar box necks so I got the carving part down. I'll see how it goes on the next build. If it turns out as nice as his, I'll be thrilled!👍😎🎸🎶

6 years old and still one of the best videos on guitar making. No CNC, small power toolds, hand tools and lots of talent. Although all building videos are appreciated, there's too much CNC, which is more programming then building. The point of these videos is to encourage all home builders and share the passion. If we wanted to see a huge factory with the latest power tools we could watch a Gibson factory video.

❤ Thanks! this type of comments is what inspired me to share my passion back in the day. And though guitar making is not a ballistic missile science, it felt nearly impossible to make at the beginning. I'm happy my video inspired some people to try and make guitars themselves .

The body + pickguard = when you want to show your love for both Eddie Van Halen and cowboys, apparently? And the neck inlays show some love for classic video games, I guess. I don't understand those choices, either. All that effort into building from scratch, I would be sure to do something amazing for a finish to really show off the wood.

You want to know what is amazing about this build? This kid already had every modern guitar building tool he needed before he built his first guitar. How many of us get to start off with all the right tool AND the finely tuned skills to use them on the first try? I'm guessing this is his 5th guitar, and the first one that was worth showing anyone... just like the rest of us.
@yojik_creates_stuff
@yojik_creates_stuff 2 жыл бұрын
hi :) no, not really. before i started to work on a guitar, i started from doing some wood turning. the heavy tools that you see in the video i used in a workshop that is open for everyone. pay by hour. some of the work i did at home, and by that time already had some tools. the hard part was the neck. I ruined 3 necks, every time for a different reason. but this is my first guitar. it's not ideal, but its nice. the finish is not top notch, far from that. but it plays :) and has warm nice sound. the truth is that this one, is better than the second guitar i built :)

as someone who builds custom guitars with ranging intricacies in the paint jobs, the easiest way to do any paint job for a guitar is mask, paint with aerosol (unless stylistic choice is involved), sand with the lightest grit sand paper you got. Don't rush it and do it very evenly. Then finally add a clear coat and you're good to go for most guitars. Still though, great fucking job on the construction of the build itself.

Not sure if the paint is Eddie V or Austin P inspired .. either way well done ... yeah like many others I don't like the paint job but that is just personal ... end sound and playability is the goal ... I'm gonna have a crack some day ????

This thing looks great! I love the custom fret inlays you made. I hope I can build my own someday. I just don't have much experience with wood working.

Hey man, if you want you surely will. I learned a lot about woodworking during the process. Many of the tools and techniques you see in the video, I tried in the first time for this building, even though it's hard to tell from just watching the video, but trust my word :) I ruined a lot before I succeeded.

Nice would you be able to tell me what types of saws you used for your build?
@yojik_creates_stuff

I used what I had access to. The best option is a band saw. Didn't have one when I built this one. But there are plenty of other options. japanese handsaws, jig saws, and etc.

Great job, if you were gonna goof up at least it was with the finish. You can always go back and redo the finish! Can't wait to build my first, just as soon as I find a workshop!

I recommend using a sprayed on paint for the EVH style finish. It comes out much cleaner looking if you do it right. Other than that you did a great job.

Nice guitar and very good workmanship. At current prices: Wood: $ 500.00 or more Hardware: 300 - 1000, depending on brand (and, no this is not a mistake) for good pick up's, alone you can pay from $ 300.00 up Wood working machinery: judging from the video, $ 2,000 to 3,000, maybe more(I am a woodworker). StewMac tools alone cost him several hundreds. Not everybody's "first" guitar

you're wrong ) the wood is pricey, but not that pricey and the hardware is not that pricey as well. In this guitar the hardware is mostly Chinese, 40$ ± pickups. bridge 20$, tuners 20-30$. the wood is is 50-80$. The tools are various , and many are not mine, at least at that time of the video. Since then I built an acoustic guitar (you can find on my channel), and that was pricey ) many tools and much money.
