the major difference is . in the USA your just a FAN , and in Europe we are a SUPPORTER . so we support the clubs not just the players , they are our teams as well , and a lot of the times fans own shears in the clubs through a supporter union or something of that nature . so we are way more involved with the clubs than most US teams / clubs . + we have the football ( soccer ) clubs and it all comes from that , and as them clubs are from the 1800's its a very long tradition that gets passed on for everyone to get involved like we do

Difference is: In the US it is sport, it is entertainment, it is a show. For some europeans it is basically war with other means. It is not just some show and entertainment. A lot of the matches have a long history of rivalry sometimes even political, religious and social differences and therefor the fan culture and especially the ultras culture is way stronger. BTW: Because of the bouncing the apparently have to build the stadiums in a certain way so that the concrete can absorb it and not get damaged from tens of thousands of people bouncing in unison.

Its not about liking basketball or football. Most sports clubs have teams in every major sport and fans support the club in any sport. Fan fact: In a lot of parts of Europe like the Balkans for example, the team that you support is a part of your personality and sometimes its even a valid reason to be (or not be) friends with someone. When you meet new people one of the first questions that you ask is "What team are you?"

In the United States like in North Korea you are constantly bombarded with Nationalism, in Europe the National anthems are only played when nations compete against other nations or when international teams are involved. you are also constantly told that the United States is the best country in the world and for some things it is but for other things it clearly is not, so is pretty far from being the best nation, it is certainly not the freest nation in the world by far.

With all the love for my fellow Europeans - unlike football in Europe where insane fandom exists in every country these crazy passionate fans at basketball games only come from (South)eastern Europe (Serbia, Greece...)...where basketball clubs are part of so called multi sport clubs so the same fans OF THE CLUB/THE COLOURS will follow the football team, the basketball team, the handball team, the water polo or hockey team as well...Basketball audience in France, Germany etc is cringeworthy in its attempt to mimic US crowd, which is, even in its tameness and casualness - still authentic and deserves respect.

completely false. I'm Italian and we do make noise. In my city we have only 5k seats, but still I lose my voice every game and my ears whistle for a couple hours after. we just do not use firecrackers. But we also launch toilet papers, confetti etc. We sing all game, we boo on every opponent's possession etc. The fact that you are a louder doesn't mean we do not make noise.

Whatever you take basket or American Football vs Football (soccer for USA), USA fans will ALWAYS be way behind the rest of the world in term of supporting in a stadium. As it has been said below, in USa you're Fans of a club, the rest of the world are supporters and that's is a huge difference. Most people in USA will get scared and shit in their pants if they attend some match in South America or in Europe.

Sport in US is all about business. And they compete only in their own league. And also there's no division in the league. So if your team is bad there's no pressure as they will still compete in the same league next season.
