I was surprized to learn, particularly as Smothers did this with JL, that later, when JL was with May Pang for the 18 months he was, he showed up drunk & heckled the Smothers Brothers doing their act.
@JAMaxeRestoration2 ай бұрын
@@JP51ism Yes that's true except I will add it was John Lennon along with Harry Nilsson, both drunk off their asses who were kicked out of the Smothers Brothers show at the Troubadour Club in LA. Can you imagine being the person who can say you bounced John Lennon...LOL! That was the Lennon period known as the Lost Weekend, which was actually an 18 month period where Lennon and Nilsson went on a drinking binge together. in LA. They became part of the drinking club called the Hollywood Vampires while in LA,. Its was Lennon, Nilsson, Mickey Dolenz, Keith Moon and Alice Cooper. Can you even imagine!

May all the gods bless your naivity! When, in the many thousands of years of human history, has any GOD or GODDESS really ensured peace? Muslims fight against Christians and Jews; Christians fight against Muslims and Jews; Jews fight against Muslims... And all this in the name of ONE God? A GOD who only needs all these wars for his own amusement? IF THIS GOD really had the power to end wars, and if humanity's disputes weren't just entertainment for THIS ONE GOD, there would be no more wars in this world for a long time! If any god or goddess really had the power to influence human behavior, ALL of his/her followers would long ago be victors in all disputes... It is a sad truth that the more religious a person is, the more he/she loses their ability to criticize and reason!

He and Dick were playing in SF when we held a benefit for a fellow performer who had been shot and paralyzed and they asked to join in. All the theatre and music people in SF performed and the drama and music critics were the ushers. It was an amazing night. Tom was a great man. A fighter ahead of his time. Also he was known to treat people like shit all the time. You obviously know this. But you probably choose to ignore it. And quit bringing up other artists. Completely irrelevant. We're talking about John Lennon. If anything Paul McCartney was more honest about what he was then John was. So yeah I'll say it once again. The fact that Petula Clark of all people ended up on this track speaks to the character of everybody in that room. We so readily marginalise people into groups and artists into genres when all we really ought to see are two expats making the best of what remains of the night, with friends, far away from home. There's something wonderfully platonic and human about the whole thing, and it's not the sentiment that makes you stop and think, it's the realization that we don't experience as often as we know we ought to.

Tom Smothers, seen in the film, said that on the first and second takes, he played inverted guitar chords, after which John told him "Hey Tom, play it as written."

This put a smile on my face. What isn't possible with a good hook, some simple harmony, and a great concept? Peace out, Yoko.

#PrayForPeace 🏳 ☮
