I love that remark about the protective film on the rear element. I bought the Yongnuo 35mm a couple years back, put it on my 5D II (gives a bit of a ballpark date), and was horrified at the softness of the image-how could they sell a lens in this condition, it looks like I'm photographing through a plastic bottle! I chucked it in a drawer and didn't think about it for a few years, then on a whim, got it out of its box, took off the rear lens cap, and felt like a bit of an idiot not to notice that it still had the plastic bit on. It's not a bad little lens if you remember to take the plastic off-I also find that my pictures look better if I take off the lens cap :)

Red ring adds 10% sharpness. I did enjoy the mk1 when I shot Canon, though, so much so that I have the Nikon version on the way right now :D Update: just played around with the Nikon version, and I don't think it's worth it, it's just not sharp. Could be the d800 I was using, which brings out the worst in lenses, but either way, I'm selling it on. Better off buying a Nikon 50mm 1.8D

I own both this lens and Canon 50mm STM at f1.8 the centre sharpness is comparable. Like you said the susceptibility to flare is less in Canon, also less noisy in Canon. Other than that both lenses are really comparable in terms of sharpness and distortion. Bearing in mind the Yongnou is much cheaper. I will be selling one most likely the Canon.

This lens looks alright if you really need to safe money so it might be a good option. But I guess there are some vintage manual focus lenses that are nicer to buy second hand if you don't mind the manual focus. Also I would not mind a lower aperture like f2 or f2,4 as the highest aperture to make the image quality a little better. I guess that would make it a good upgrade with only a little lower aperture which I'm probably already going to use most of the time anyways

@sunlbx Жыл бұрын
This lens suffers horrible focus shift. If you microadjust it for wide open shooting, and then close the aperture a little, you will backfocus severely! Also, if you shoot something far away, you might need no correction, however if you shoot a portrait of a person standing 1.5m away - you might need max correction available (+20 in my case!) I must say the lens is nice when it focuses correctly, too bad it doesnt happen too often

In very simple terms, your backgrounds will look less blurry / out of focus. This is what many people consider to be one of the principle advantages of using a full-frame camera - more out of focus backgrounds in your images. The same amount of light will come in to you camera though. IF you're still stuck, take a look at one of the many videos on KZbin about crop factors.
