I like the concept of rideshare bikes and scooters, but in reality what we have are private companies taking up public footpaths with their vehicles. This is what you get when Australia tries to imitate the Netherlands. It's pretty close. NGL. Every year they fish about 6000 bikes from canals in the netherlands. The major difference is that the majority of those bikes aren't ride share. I've been finding unlocked regular bikes in bushes or at garbage dump locations and fixing them up for a few years now. Stopped buying bicycles alltogether and giving them away for whoever wants one, if/when I have stock.

Just a test to see if it would make people ditch their cars. It failed miserably and it pissed the government off, so now they're going hardcore with higher road taxes, higher insurance premiums, EV greenwashing, higher petrol prices, lower speed limits and 15 minute cities. But I'm just a conspiracy theorist...
@TheCaptainbeefylog7 ай бұрын
This is similar to the bikes they had in Brisbane. The CBD in Brisbane has a lot of hills, so the pikes would end up at the stations at the bottom of hills, as no one could be arsed riding them back uphill. The company ended up having to pay people to go collect them and take them back to the uphill spots. These were just normal pedal bikes - not electric. Eventually they went broke and Brisbane City Council (their major partner) ended up giving the bikes away. My missus got one. Having learned a lot from this debacle, there are now ebike and escooter rentals all over the place.....
