Hooray! Hurrah! Hello! Happy days! Hallelujah! Thank you Peter once again for a most elucidating and helpful podcast. Thank you Yoram for your most valuable exposition - i felt threads of awareness over the past 50 years (am 73, Woman, Australian, Baconian) of what you have explained to Peter, but have always felt confounded nonetheless. I will seek your book out. Dear Peter is 'always' alive to key people and higher consciousness. Blessings and the best of health to you both. Thank You.

This is why Uncommon Knowledge is great- just when you think you may have a handle on something, you find something that upsets and modifies your decision-space

Great discussion. I’ve been a Burkean conservative for decades. Hazony is spot on when talking about the English Common Law tradition as a joint US/UK inheritance. It’s also the key reason why the UK political tradition is so very different from - and probably incompatible with - that of our European friends and neighbours. One proviso… in the UK, the term nationalism is not a synonym for conservatism!

Best interview ever. Restorationism already has a better agenda than conservatism. Conservatism is touching the brake pedal while liberalism is fully throttling the gas.

I've read one-third of the book, and I can say confidently that no interview with Yoram Hazony on his book, including this one, has done any justice whatsoever to properly summarize and explain the magnificent content of that book. Yoram, with all due respect, doesn't seem like a good speaker, but his books are amazingly well-written and well-researched.

The so-called intellectuals like Barton Swaim want to argue the “how and why” of the fire, while their home burns down around them. Mr. Hazony is right on; we turned our back on God and now we are reaping the fruits of that decision. Mr. Robinson you are the best.

I have been wondering lately...what is Conservatisim? I have read opinions from Hazony, Goldberg, Edwards, and Congessman Johnson, but I find Hazony's to be the most accurate. The others just seem to Libertarian light. I don't know if Hazony's correct version of Conservatisim can be rediscovered or last as religion is its center glue and religion is failing or being twisted, but I pray for its rebirth and longevity.

The bit about Europe sounds an awful lot like "Germany needs to rearm and take the job of the central European hegemon". The problem is simple: The creation of a new Wehrmacht will invalidate the political independence of east European states, ipso facto, and force them to seek counterbalancing help from Russia or Turkey. A situation like that was what existed immediately prior to WW1 & WW2.

Im usually on board with this program but as a christian who has moved on to a more spiritually centered life as opposed to an established religion i think that the new theory says no mix of church and state is not only reasonable but much better than the alternative

Those Federalists still were on the side of very considerable government decentralization. They were Nationalists only in comparison to Thomas Jefferson and Company who wanted very minimal government. Jefferson regarded himself as a Virginian. Hamilton was not on board with Adam Smith with regards to economics. I would say most of us with some association with the Republican Party are Champions of Smith and the Wealth of Nations.

Christianity comes in a wide variety of interpretations. A revival of Christianity needs to originate locally with your town Priests, Ministers, Pastors. Go to Church and go out in your community a better person because of it. Separation of Church and State, Federal and State levels: Absolutely!

America is way too large for this kind of National Conservatism, way to diverse in so many ways, New England is not Georgia or Alabama. No....culture to evolve locally from the community.

No......Enlightenment..... Classical Liberalism! If the Republican Party goes this direction we need a third party that is Classical Liberal and Centrist or Center Right with regard to policies. The Libertarian Party is terminally flaky. No I don't buy this Conservativism and I actually think it is somewhat outside the American tradition.
