Today was our much anticipated Junior Firefighter Day!
Each year, fire departments across York Region launch a fire safety poster contest for grade 3 classes at their chosen schools. Six winners are chosen to be a “crew” for a day alongside each of their Fire Departments.
The Fire and Life Safety Educators for your local department work together to make this day extra special for the winners and their guests.
Thank you to Markham Fire for hosting this year.
There are set activities each “crew” runs through to learn about the role of a firefighter with practical experience!
We were so proud to have our six Junior Firefighters from Maple Leaf Public School in Newmarket. They did us proud and are the first “crew” for CYFS (Newmarket/Aurora) to win the Bucket Brigade competition for the whole Region!!
Chief Volpe and Chief Fire Prevention Officer Schell had a blast competing with this team.
Next year we will be hosting and look forward to another great day of fun and new friends.
