This is still more state of the art than the IT department of both the NHS and the Civil Service.

Brilliant upload here and very retro as well you can tell how this is from 1990 because of the old professional video camera that the reporting team used at that time for shooting the sound and vision material to be used on Calendar that day. It is also nice to see the old computers and vintage phones in the news centre plus a young Christa Ackroyd. Thank you so much for uploading this to KZbin it is nice to see what happens behind the scenes at Yorkshire Television.

Nice of YTV to provide a weather forecast for as far west as Cheshire and Lancashire.

If Yorkshire Television had lost their franchise in 1991 then we wouldn't have had all this excellent entertainment that they have produced I believe that the ITC aka The Independent Television Commission where very pleased with the shows which Yorkshire made for the network and let them keep onto their franchise they were great when it came to television and entertainment. Yorkshire was a top regional company which made the best in entertainment not only shows for broadcasting in their own region but also shows for being shown nationally.

If you were to watch some of their so called comedy shows from the 1970's, they produced some really crap. But then again times have changed and for the better.

What the ODETICS MACHINE (including the roboit machine itselft and its connected tape recorders) did 30 years ago can now be done on VLC Media Player. That's how we saw the evolution of broadcast automation.

In the old analogue days, how far did the YTV signal reach?

The new YTV News Centre back then.

Seems a very good quality source, the ident at the end seems way too crisp for a 25 year old home format tape.

+Rob Mortimer Guess I kept these Betamax tapes in pretty good condition then - and still playing off the same machine I first started using back in the 80s! Most of this clip is second generation....until the late bulletin bit at the end.

Bloody hell Calendar was worse for Leeds bias than Look North is.

They did have the calendar east program from hull as well.

@@joannesaltfleet2071 That doesn't help if you are sat in Pickering, Barnsley, Worksop or Selby.

You could always tell if Leeds United or Leeds Rhinos lost that weekend, it wouldn't get as much coverage. Calendar didn't half rub it in when anything in Sheffield failed or went over budget like the original Supertram, World Student Games or the former Centre for Popular Music. Used to be a little better when we used to receive the Calendar South bulletins for Sheffield from the Crosspool transmitter.

Awww Twice nightly whitely.

Seems to me that the companies who didn't bother to invest around this time were the sensible ones. This would have all been a massive white elephant if YTV had lost its licence (which it very nearly did -- I strongly suspect that without the TTTV merger it would have been no more capable of running on its own than TT would have been, their bid was waaaay too high). I never noticed at the time, but Graham Roberts was really starting to sound past-it at this stage.
