Maybe an FAQ page somewhere - primer used, pre-weld spray stuff (special primer?) How did you manage before the belt file!?? Do you ever leave rust and 'kill' it with acid/primer stuff? Are vehicles ever subject to Gov inspection after a deep rebuild? - like the Disatsun

The rot was exactly the same as my 1972 Mexico Rally car after a year or two in the forests. Your workmanship was way better than my local welder's repair efforts.

Great stuff again Steve and enjoyed the explanations as to why you do things in certain ways....I did used to do some vehicle restoration (Beetles mainly) back in the mid 80's but we used bought panels and rarely had stuff as complex as you deal with. Great to see you saving another classic! 👍👍

When I was growing up, there was a chap in our village who was lauded as a fantastic panel beater. I always thought that meant that he was good at getting dents out of cars. I've been watching yours and Ryan's skills in Metal Origami since Matt brought his 635 in and now I'm addicted😅 I've been doing my restoration on a Clio Williams and no how long it takes to make little panels and the welding takes a lot of practice and a decent welder. On a different note, I'm also a little concerned about doing all this welding without a Mask. I've done it and realised that it's not good for me. The Last thing we want is Cancer. I see Ryan is wearing all the kit, i know it's a Pain to wear but worth it for the future!!

Steve, i think your explaining how and why is the best part of it. Vids are as much an education as entertainment so go for it. There are some channels that are full o 25:49 f the one off wise cracks and short on the detail, which is a real shame, but getting that balance is difficult, you get no complaints from me, Joe

I really enjoy the planning steps and descriptions. Sharing your skills is a real gift. and your workshop, is fantastic. Many years ago, I had a 160 amp stick welder with a bit of 15 amp fuse wire soldered on the outside of a blown fuse so I could run it turned up full, a grinder and some hammers. Working on the street out of a van. Mainly I did sills and floor patches. Keeping old cars on the road one MOT at a time. It is good to see it done properly..:)

I realise it's not your problem, but if this is a genuine RS2000, I'd say it's been reshelled at some time in it's life. The only evidence of type 49 strengthening I've noticed, is what you've added. That said, if it IS genuine, then it's not surprising it's been reshelled! 😉 Cracking job though, keep it up. I can't tell you how many of these I've welded up over the years, many of them on the side of the road. I feel for ya bud!

Speaking as a metalwork virgin, even though I’m sixty, its fascinating to hear how you work through the process of restoration. It never ceases to amaze me how so many aspects are common to other practices. I do a lot of art both via a computer paint system and by free hand. The analysis of deconstruction is very similar to how i construct computer images from reference material.
