Enterprise, Hornet, and Yorktown...the saviors of the US's war effort in the Pacific. If not for the heroic efforts of those crews and aviators, the US might very well have lost any momentum or ability to make war against the Empire of Japan. For Yorktown especially, which paid the ultimate price in that battle. A great video, as usual. Magnificently done and edited. I thank you for it. And Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.

​@zacharyfunman7950 it would've taken longer if the AircraftCarriers Yorktown,Enterprise,Hornet and Lexington sunk out of luck Enterprise was the last AircraftCarrier in the U.S in the early war while Sartoga was in repairs Essex Class and Independence Class was life savors and Midway was a game changer only leaving a few AircraftCarriers left for Japan without Enterprise CV-6 your looking at less Air support leaving only a few Battleships and Many Crusiers and Destroyers

@@SolidKing98 Indeed. At minimum, a loss at Midway would have set the war efforts of America in the Pacific back by years. Mostly because it wasn't just a simple matter of replacing lost ships and planes. The crews and pilots had to be replaced as well, which takes time. Morale would have been hit very hard as well, as we would have effectively lost any ability to project power into the PAcific with our carriers gone. And Midway would become a staging area for aerial raids on Pearl HArbor, turning it from a safe haven to resupply and repair into a constant warzone where no ship would be safe from enemy attacks. This means that our ships would have to use the West coast to safely resupply and repair, before sailing to Pearl to gather for forays into the PAcific, where they could come under attack. Any attempt to marshal a naval task force to push into the Pacific could be monitored and attacked while still gathering. Midway would have to be taken again just to allow pearl to operate more freely and allow our navy a safe port to more easily project into the PAcific. All of this would take time, manpower, and resources, and if our morale was hurt too badly, it could have caused us to even possibly consider negotiating. Midway was not an inevitable conclusion...it was the battle that saved the American war effort in the Pacific. Because it allowed us to continue operating freely in the Pacific while destroying the Japanese offensive power so utterly that they would never be able to launch an offensive again.

​@zacharyfunman7950 indeed the US would have won. But the efforts made by both the Yorktown and Lexington class made things easier. The fast carrier task force would have absolutely stomped a full strength kido butai, which really was just classic step barbarian horde tactics but with ships because they were cowards, but their contributions cannot be overstated.

USS Yorktown CV-5's presence at Midway was instrumental the victorious outcome. Her fliers killed carrier Soryu and landed lethal hits on Hiryu alongside Enterprise's dive bombers. She took both of Hiryu's counter attacks, essentially sacrificing herself to protect her sisters, one of whom would go on to be the essential American warship of the Pacific War. Her death was hard fought and required two submarine launched torpedoes to finally finish her off. She rests under a 3 mile column of water. Her guns are still aimed at the sky.

I love the Yorktown class as a whole, but i have a really big grip about her in WoWs...her planes just dont fit for her. They are more advanced planes that didn't enter service until after she was sunk at Midway. It's my biggest gripe about her and Lexington. They are just not fitting to their times.

Agreed. I literally groaned at the frustration of WoWs mixing up the airgroup of Yorktown II (CV-10) and Yorktown (CV-5). It's so damn stupid. I personally would've rearranged the US CV tech tree to have all the fleet carriers after Ranger be in one section and the escort carriers in the other.
