So. Yorushika made two special whole albums. One is songs made by Amy before he died. Another album is Elma's songs after he died. For great songs from Elma's perspective, I would recommend A Hole Opened in My Heart (Kokoro ni Ana ga Aketa) which explains a lot about their relatioship. Another great is Rain and Cappuccino. This one is amazing song where Elma thinks of her meeting with Amy.

The ink in the mv is actually called Emerald Green, which is also known as a poisonous dye. Also "Nautilus" is not inspired by the sea creature but rather by a fictional submarine (as seen in the mv) by Jules Verne.

Its information like this that makes me happy that we have comments 🤣 I was wondering why the song was called Nautilus ~ I had some weird thoughts in my mind like "maybe they are talking about spiraling feelings" or something! Thank you!

@@SwiftDetae There is another reason. You can see Amy wrote Nautilus as the song name by hand. the character used are: ノーチラス = Nou-chi-ra-su But the "chi" is written to purposely look like number 4. チ -> 4 Making it being read as: ノー4ラス = Nou-shi-ra-su And if you read that backwars, it's "Sura Shinou" which literally translates as "Let's die then" So basically if you read the name backwards, it¨s "Let's die then" which fits for Amy's last song before he drinks poison.

"Unraveled" Yayyy, another Yorushika! When I first knew about Yorushika, it was around where Nautilus came out so it feels like I'm watching the last episode of a two season anime or something XD! I don't know if you noticed but this song have so many reference to Yorushika's previous songs! Like the ink in deep indigo and such. I'll explain a little bit more, Amy, the boy, is a street musician who is not recognized, but that is not the only reason why he gave up on music, he was also diagnosed that he only had 1 more year to live, as you can see in this MV's flashing text "My life's expiration date is nearing" or something along those lines. And I read somewhere (I forgot where, might be the comment section(?)) that this song, Nautilus, is actually Amy's suicide letter. Well, that makes this song even more emotional and sad than it already are. That explains Itte a lot as well, a song of losing someone important because of suicide. I haven't really read Elma's journal and Amy's diary translation (you could get those by purchasing the first 2 albums of Yorushika, I think, well I don't have both album and I can't read Japanese anyway, so I rely on the translation, it explains the story more!), but I agree with your opinion that Elma continues Amy's music in the end. Well, this song and story is really sad and emotional, I could really see that Nao was about to cry at the end of the song. Thanks for the reaction once again. See you soon!

Lapland and gamla stan are actually places in sweden. Amy is from Japan but travelled to Sweden, stayed there for 1 year before committing suicide. Can't wait for more! :)

1 YEAR AGO? Oh boy i am late but have some more (somewhat) unrelated comments since i found this reaction hehe On one of the notes that passes by, you can see that it says "Elma, it's you. You alone are my music" which, as you pointed out correctly at the very start, correlates directly to the song "That's why I gave up on music" but then, in that song, who is the "you" that he curses at? He says that "I don't care anymore, it's all your fault" and here's where it gets really crazy, and I'm going to rant for a little bit, and answer your question from the reaction to "That's why I gave up on music" If Elma is the music, then that means that the "you" that he's referencing in [That's why I gave up on music] actually indicates to what he calls the "God" that lives within creation: The embodiment of art, or the spirit of creation. Amy is frustrated -incredibly frustrated at these humans; why can't they see the value of creation? humanity was built on imagination and the ability to create, so why do they reject it now, even going as far as to make it impossible to make a living out of creating? Amy was always able to live to the fullest when he was making music with Elma. Her talent and wonder for the world was his inspiration, and his music reflects that. Betting everything he had on music, so that he could bring God back into the dull mundane society, and realising at the end that people just didn't care... He curses God, and now losing all that he had, he ends his life, finishing his last true song with the line "and that's why I gave up on music". It's important to note why the last line is about him giving up on music: He would turn his back on God before he gives up on music - and his emotions would be carved into the song that is Nautilus. He raises his head one last time because he knows that Elma wouldn't be ready for their parting. To Elma, his death would be like a nightmare. He is uncertain of what she will do now that he is gone. But if someday the dawn finally comes, if she finally chooses to accept these events, he wants her to open her eyes (the same that were filled with wonder for the world) and see, and create; for herself. She has everything that she needs, she has simply been looking for God in other people, without even once considering the value of herself. As a result, Elma would eventually create the second Album, filling it with her songs about their story together. In that sense, Nautilus is actually less of a sad song, but as a word of encouragement. Music is supposed to bring people together. And though he cannot accomplish his goal, he leaves Elma his guitar, almost as if passing the torch, so that the spirit of creation can continue within our unforgiving society. oh also at 6:55 you are correct in saying that there wasn't actually an airship, but the song Nautilus (and actually the entire story) is a brilliant yet subtle mirror of Jules Verne's [2,000 leagues under the sea], and the submarine named 'Nautilus'. Highly recommend reading if you aren't aware of the story already! that airship is essentially the incarnation of Nautilus, with the captain of said submarine, Nemo, being Amy. (fun fact, Nemo is latin for "no man" because Nemo gives up on humanity - also why we don't see Amy's eyes until the very end, because he doesn't see humanity the way everyone else does.) The Nautilus is the submarine that would take Dr Arronnax (Elma's counterpart, I don't want to spoil anymore xD) along with Nemo on a trip through under the seas. The airship Nautilus isn't a place or time, it's more than just that. it's the experience that had brought them together, the memories that they had made, it's a commemoration of all that they have achieved. it's even more amazing then; that this song ends lyrically, visually, and metaphorically as it began. To be able to incorporate all of these elements into a thought-provoking and epic finale is something that just absolutely blows me away every time I listen to any song from Yourshika, but these two albums in particular. Just like the rings of a nautilus shell, though the creature is long since deceased, the legacy, the torch- will keep on burning. That has, for the longest time, been the creed of Yorushika - to create music that their audience could listen to without any preconceptions, so that we, like Elma, can continue to create and bring life to our world. Sorry if this was a bit long, and an eyesore to read. Obviously there is tons more in these songs than just the small parts I've found, but I'll leave those to you guys if you're interested. Thank you so much for such an amazing reaction, love the work! :)
