The vw up the Skoda Citigo and the seat all make that noise there from the gearbox they r a cheap car to build and customers would go back and say I’ve got a noise from my gearbox they would have it replaced and the noise would still be there after it would be replaced,there is nothing wrong with the gearbox there is just little to no sound deadening material at all. We have got customers who have these cars and they r all like that and we assure them there is nothing wrong with it at all and it’s very common so it’s nothing to worry about

We bought a 62plate Seat Mii four years ago with only 12,000 miles (absolutely no rust) It's still only done 18,000 and just every now and then (quite rare) this rattle occurs. You press the clutch pedal and it goes silent. But there's also a rattle from under the front nearside when going over bumpy roads. We mention it every MOT to our mechanic but he says everything is fine. It always passes without any problems every year. The underneath rattle sounds a bit like a worn trackrod end! But we love the little car. It reminds 'me' of the Hillman Imps I had years ago but a LOT better made lol.
@TommyRogic1814 сағат бұрын
A box oil change would help, but the noise James is very much normal. A brand new VW unit would be slightly quieter for a huge expense. The sound deadening on the bulkhead is crap so you hear everything going on in the bay. Cracking little motors though and the first car I recommend to new drivers.
@derekfleming3095Күн бұрын
Chops, your clutch release bearing comment is the wrong way around - noise will disappear when you press the clutch, as its then under pressure

Just been for a run in the one I've got in stock, same noise when cold, once warmed up you don't notice it, it is dependant on revs, say 900 rpm it's quiet, if you put load on the engine, or if it's cold you can hear the gearbox chatter, I've had a few and they're all like that, driving is totally silent.

As someone else mentioned - Citroen maybe the front scuttle drain- will need to take a front wheel off and pull out the rubber bung top of the wheel arch. When you’ve done one side you’ll be able to do the other without removing the wheel. Normally seems to be pine tree needles that cause it - in my case at least.
@jonathandeeley6276Күн бұрын
Yep, that noise is perfectly normal James. I've had 3 Skoda Citigos in the past and each one had the same noise. I've also seen a tech bulletin that Skoda released to its dealers about the noise and it said exactly the same as VW. Skoda describe it as a " Comfort" issue rather than a manufacturing defect. From what the master technician told me at my dealer ( and he was a goodun!!) it's a budget vehicle with a small basic gearbox in a small confined space and noise is inevitable because of the lack of any refinement. Don't go spending your money on another gearbox as it won't make any difference. If you're still in doubt consult a reputable VW dealer and I'm sure he will tell you the same. You get used to it after a while.🙂👍

James that noise is normal when cold and you,d be wasting your money changing a gearbox as the next will do it too.We had a Citigo in 2013 with 1.2K miles on it and that did it too.We have just recently this year got rid of the wifes Aygo for a 2015 Citigo Monte Carlo with 37K and that does it also and the noise on video is exactly like ours.Its all over the Skoda forum and the UP forum and that VW TSB is correct as its not a defect.People have replaced there clutch but its still there.After the engine/box warms up (which is quick on these) the noise goes away.

Can’t fault the C4 Picssso. I know James knows I’m a Citroen Nut but my late brother had one of these from 2010 for 3 years and she pulled like a train. Even towed my sisters Saxo with it,Granted it was the 2.0HDi EGS6 not the 1.6HDi. The drivers seat went the same in the 3 years on his so a common C4 Picssso problem.
@Christyleadbitter20 сағат бұрын
Sounds like a typical 3 cylinder nothing to worry about. Maybe a fresh oil change might quieten it down a bit but not much.
@grifa4967Күн бұрын
That is exact noise they make until properly warmed up, like a few miles this time of year, the Up forums are dull of people asking about it, post 2016 ones don't do it due to the Polo box being used. If it's done 70k or more is worth getting it changed but it won't really quieten it down, just make changing gears the smoother, will try and get a video of mine doing it and send it to you some time.
@roystonvehicles9129Күн бұрын
Selling that fiesta ecoboost at 70k on original belt to a local customer is brave bud. OK Ford might fix it, but it'll be you first in the firing line, I'd be worried it would go in bad circumstances, traffic or motorway. Hope you at least cut the oil filter up to look for bits of rubber (?) I sold a 1.4 zetec fiesta last night and I'm not worried about it blowing up (!)

I had a Seat Mii in stock a few years back. Very low mileage, circa 20k and it made that noise at idle. Gear cluster roll over rattle I think was the diagnosis. I traded it off simply because I didn't want the hassle of having to explain it to ever person that came to try the car. Shame really as the car was absolutely mint. Car is still going many years later. I think later ones have improved that but not 100% sure.

Regarding the Up, clutch rattle totally normal across the VW up/citigo/Mii, it's because they don't have a dual mass flywheel, drive a couple of miles and the noise won't be there. My UP was not as noisy as that. Great cars but they are prone to rust from the inside out around the petrol cap. Reason being VW didn’t fit wheel arch liners.
