I feel bad for the creators of media that has a "bad fandom" If you think of it all they wanted to do is work on something that makes them happy, but now their hard work is considered "cringe" and "toxic" all because of the doings of your uncontrollable fans.

Some fandoms definitely behave in more wild ways than others, but I could never understand how a fandom could influence a work so much so that people would then hate the work. It's not like the creators were actively looking for cursed ships. They just want to share entertainment lol.

For some people like me, it's usually bc I've experienced being in a bad fandom (anime fandom) And oh boy did it leave a scar in my ability to enjoy the thing. Everyone want to help the thing they like to be better, but if all it takes for bad exchanges and later other people piling on you is one unpopular opinion. Then due to "nature of selection" u will want to distance urself from this media to go find a better one

I feel like smaller fandoms are overshadowed by big fandoms, making fandoms as a whole look toxic. But this isn’t always the case. I joined the community of indie survival game Rain World, and there were so many nice people. I was never harassed once, I was allowed to borrow art for a video, and the people in general had good personalities. Not every fandom is bad, and that needs to be recognized.

That's the joke of big fandoms. First,the fandom is small,sometimes trash,sometimes good. Then,the fandom gets bigger,and more popular. Third,the fandom gets toxic and awful in most of the cases and gets even more popularity for being bad. No little fandom will be relevant until they do something bad,or get bigger and also worse.That's how it works.

I spent a lot of time on the r/TF2 subreddit and according to my experience with it alone, I'd say that while the community itself is not outright terrible, it's certainly not the best. While the majority of the TF2 fandom consists of healthy, passionate fans who have put a lot of effort into keeping the game alive to this day and making Gmod/SFM animations online, there is also a sizable amount of "fans" who kept spamming low-effort, unfunny memes everywhere they go, as well as trying to constantly find ways to hate Overwatch and its sequel (even though I don't even particularly like or enjoy Overwatch that much, which also means that I have absolutely nothing to say about it). There is no middle ground, unfortunately.

fandoms as a whole were/are probably only viewed negatively because people chose to look at the bad actors in some specific communities. with the advent of these "discoveries", it significantly tipped the scales in a negative favour (although this was probably also caused by the growing demand for negativity towards media, evident by the view spikes in videos attacking something as opposed to praising it). just figured i'd put my two cents here.
@Noelle_Holiday
@Noelle_Holiday Жыл бұрын
There is a reason why the phrase "there's no such thing as negative publicity" exists, and this is precisely what people like Meowbahh and MrDweller were attempting to achieve in the long run (by trying to be as cringeworthy and offensive as possible). The argument goes that even if people are making a big deal about why something is morally unacceptable, toxic, offensive, or compromising the youngest generation around the world, they are only bringing more attention to it, making it more widespread, piquing people's sense of curiosity about why it is so objectionable, and ultimately leading them to seek interest in how bad it could be. Strangely, some people never seem to learn from the fact that they're doing a good job of making their object of hate significantly more popular, thus, free advertising. Say whatever you want about FNAF and the controversial reputation of its fandom, but none of this negative publicity stopped the games themselves from becoming a multimedia franchise and selling a lot of merchandise as a result.

Yet, we all have to back down if its something they like. This right here is why I don't be on fandoms anymore. This mess is bogus.😟

Here’s one thing I learned, be as nice as you can to people outside your fandom if they are being toxic, don’t go full on hate mode on them just casually explain how your fandom/fandoms work! That makes them calm down a little and see it better! Hell I was a hater of fandom and then I joined the fandom and I couldn’t be happier! I even got into a happy relationship because I stopped hating!

I rarely comment on most videos ( since most of are clickbait towards fandoms ). This is a great analysis video about fandoms constantly involving on the internet. I'm glad you didn't go straight to hating a fanbase or certain individual and instead use the hate dom fandom as a way to explain ( just with a simple army of people can start a hate campaign even outside of fandoms on hating something ) I mean haters gonna hate. IBZ video ( I forgive him and I understand his wrath ) has demonstrated that JoJo Fans being cringy and memeing Jojo. But when it came to Apandah had explained for the problem with a JoJo fan. He explain it in a way that JoJo the popular anime has been in recent years had a fanbase that has changed. Two creators can have a different matter of opinion but were going for what JoJo fanbase has become.. But I know some don't intentionally want to harass a fandom and its people for what they enjoy. But it can get annoying when a majority uses it as trend. Gacha Life is a fan base but can people stop like PK Russell not letting children or any demographic age not enjoy a fandom because it's cringy and apparently nobody is allowed to like it. You're right, fandoms are becoming what people generally enjoyable. There is nothing wrong with liking a fandom and a majority has accepted this new ( whether it's trend or for memes ) fandoms. Fandoms are amazing in itself and with more connection we came together. DSMP ( Dream SMP ) has been one of the fandoms that pretty much know. I know there is hate surrounded by the fandom for mostly the quirky trend of content creators being more closer to their audience. It's beautiful thing with also it's thorn. As much as I don't agree and developed overtime with commentary videos milking situations and using making one believe. It's very scary to have imagine how far we come to the point people. I understand in general the Stan culture of celebrities and generally the hate. But to the point, it's easy to make a KZbin Channel and start a fanbase of your own. Whether in varieties of big and small can have his consequences. The fact so many controversial things happened to fandoms and it's Toxicity knowing has given people the wrong idea of what a fandom is.( I Hate Everything the KZbinr ) I noticed over the years and people like him had been quiet. Since fandoms had evolved. Hate or criticism can backfire. I respect you and this video. Thank you, I enjoy all the sections and I'm glad you had made this call-out.

Before I watch I’m gonna say that I can have a love a hate relationship with fandoms. Sometimes I get to bond with others who love the same things as me. Other times I see how a shockingly high percentage of a fandom is seemingly depressed and delusional and think they can bring a dead serious back with a petition or by buying it from Nintendo. And other times it’s more neutral. The good and bad don’t outweigh eachother. There’s many annoying people you must suffer, but also many cool people there too. Not that the second one I alluded to doesn’t also have cool people. They just never get to share their voices somehow.

Out of all the fandoms I've been in, the Tetris Fandom is honestly the most chill and wholesome. It's kinda crazy to think about cuz most of us (including me) is pretty sweaty and competitive, but every competitive match I've played is, 30% of silence and 70% of me and my opponent just casually talking while trying to eliminate each other. Granted, the occasional "tryhard that insults your playstyle" comes along but they usually just come and go. It's honestly surprising that toxicity isn't the forefront of the tetris community.

Living alone in the fandom is like surviving from the zombie apocalypse or living in Pandora (from Borderlands). Another reason why things created by small creators like FNAF, Undertale, FNF, it was because they had better writing, and most importantly better characters, which were attracted most people. When having better characters, the fandoms played them way too much not only shipping but they also make cringey animations, cosplays and stuffs but memes like jokes is what I like.

T3rr0r thanks so much for this but this is technically the reason why I'm starting to stay away from responding to youtube comment sections and staying in my own lane as far as what I like. So for example, there is a franchise I absolutely loved since the 90s and its still popular to this day but the reason nowadays why I decided to stick with my own generation of it is because I have to consider that these are a newer generation of fans who will always want to see the newer aspects of their time. Its only fair to let them like it for the reasons they want to. But I do agree that I can't help but feel that certain fandoms nowadays it only like the franchises because of the memes. But overall, I promise I don't mean it in a bad way.

The word ‘community’ has to be my least favorite word due to certain drama/commentary KZbinrs saying it over and over in a negative way. Also I made the mistake of going on Reddit to see other fans of things I like, but the people who are “fans” of the game in Reddit argue and try to ruin everything for other fans. Reddit is probably one of the most toxic fandom gathering places that you didn’t mention in this video. Pro tip: Avoid drama and Reddit

9:34 Fitting that you put Sky here because a lot of people don't know that not only did Sky's creator, Michael, get harassed and send nsfw of his OC, but also did bad stuff that went under the radar. I can't describe it in full detail without KZbin removing this comment for being potentially offensive, but Michael made a nsfw discord server and filmed himself live on discord doing something we all do everyday after drinking liquid (He was 14 when he did this). Also the FNF Fandom spread the "Sky is a minor" misinfo so much that Saberspark, a cartoon reviewer who doesn't even talk about FNF, spread the misinfo in his video about the disgusting state of mobile game ads. Yes, you heard me right, a cartoon reviewer who doesn't even talk about FNF spread misinfo of an already controversial FNF OC. Thankfully he now knows that Sky is NOT a minor after I told him 4 months ago about the misinformation he spread.

On the note of Undertale I was a Undertale fan and found out about a story about two fans getting in a fight over ships and one of the fans decided to feed the other cookies that had needles in them I was kinda shocked to hear that someone was so attached to characters that they would do that rather then what usually in internet fandoms would do you know all bark no bite

@Noelle_Holiday

To be honest, the TF2 community is nothing near as great as everyone believes it is, mostly because it contains both the best and worst aspects of traditional fanboy behavior. If you go to the r/tf2 subreddit and ask any of the fans who know whatever the hell is going on, you'll find that practically everyone has a gripe with something outside of their personal convictions. I was already aware that toxic players in several online multiplayer games (particularly FPS in general) were generally been a thing, but I believe that all of the complaints from that community were exacerbated by the lack of updates and Valve's ignorance in dealing with specific circumstances, leading some people to think that they completely abandoned TF2. That, and the sizable amount of unfunny memes being repeatedly spammed everywhere (with the moderators not doing anything to stop it) as well as a subset of elitist fans who continue to claim their game is superior to Overwatch even though both are different in every way possible. However, I don't even play or enjoy Overwatch that much, which means I'm the least qualified person to discuss this situation. Sure there were other problems regarding balance issues and specific classes in general, but that's all the stuff I gathered from my experience within the TF2 community alone.

Judging someone or calling someone cringe or a idiot just because they’re in a fandom with lots of cringe and awful people even though they’re not cringe or awful and some people of the fandom are actually good people and chill is dumb Legit when I use to have a FNAF Lolbit profile people always made fun of me just for having a fnaf profile and it was so annoying And I hate how people always look at the bad side of a fandom when all fandoms have not bad and good sides. Like the fnaf fandom has a lot of good and talented people, like people making really good fangames or just nice, simple and helpful people, in fact there’s actually more of the good side in the fnaf fandom than the bad side yet people only like to pay attention to the bad side of shipping and cringe and pedos, which is incredibly annoying. Like why can’t people enjoy things, just because a game has some bad fans of it doesn’t mean everyone who likes it is a cringe bad person. Like I’m a massive undertale fan, but that’s it, I’m not a shipper, I’m not a pedo, I just really like it and I like to make cool sprite art related to it, and I plan to make a video game based on undertale, yet people hate me just for being a undertale fan and it’s just really annoying, I can almost never say I’m a undertale fan because whether in the internet or real world, someone comes up to me and says I’m cringe or a weirdo for being a fan and I’m toxic when I show no signs of toxicity, heck some people say I can’t have a opinion for being a undertale fan.
