Hi Sandra, you look absolutely beautiful. I love your hair and your skin is just glowing. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder as far as the outside appearance goes, but if you are beautiful on the inside, people notice. As we age, the outside beauty can fade and dull, Inside glows brighter than ever and gets more beautiful with each passing year as we grow in our character, compassion, kindness, etc.. I know who I am, and I am very secure in who I am. Some people may not want to ask the question “ Who am I?”. They may not want to face their behaviors, but fortunately, those behaviors can change the moment they choose to do so. Thank you for this great topic and conversation! Love, Sheila.

For the first part of my life, I was the sister of two brothers in wheelchairs. I became the wife of an abuser. I proudly became a mother, a role I love. I am a writer now. Being on my own after two divorces and a long term relationship break- up, I find it hard to just be me. It is lonely for me. I miss being part of a family. My daughter moved far away. My grandchild is barely in touch. I am visiting my best friend soon. I will at least have two days of happiness. I wish I could meet a nice man who will love who I really am. In the meantime, I have to learn to enjoy my own company.

Thank you for an impactful and meaningful conversation today, Madame! And Brava to your sister-in-law for having the courage to ask that question of the woman in her book club. We can hold the mirror up to one another to illustrate how each of us are behaving; I'm glad there was a positive outcome in the other woman's awareness because of what your sister-in-law asked. If she had not, maybe the other woman would have isolated more people in her life and not ever known the real reason. We can honor each other by communicating if we are being degraded, bullied or disrespected and we have a right to stand up for ourselves and others. A great lesson today and I so appreciate your sharing it with our amazing community! 🌸🌹🌻

Hello Sandra, Actually you are speaking about the same type of person that I am. My parents were physically and mentally abusive which has really affected my life. I may not know who I really am at 72 years old, but I definitely know who I am not, either of my parents! It’s taken me years to come out of depression and self hatred, and I have come to know that I am loved by God and that’s all that matters now.

A very good question to ask oneself, and regularly. One way my writing group and I expressed this is by writing our own obituaries. When done, we each realized it was what we wished we were. The next question: am I living this way - do my actions reflect my description - what is really important to me? Reflection is an important tool to remain authentic, true to ourselves, and grounded in our values. 😊💕

Good morning Sandra. As a child my brother and I, especially my dear Mother, went through serious difficulties after a divorce and two children. Times had changed and fortunately everything has recovered with much work. I never heard my Mother say that I was beautiful or that I had a special gift and I grew up without ever looking in the mirror thinking that I was a normal person with no special attractions. Today at 75 year old and seeing some photos of children and young women I think that I was very beautiful. The fact that I thought I wasn’t pretty or that I was an ordinary person never meant that I didn’t smile at everyone and wasn’t kind, on the contrary I was and I am always careful not to hurt anyone with words or actions, and to help as much as possible people in need. Aggressive and always bad-tempered people scares me. That’s why I think it’s a question of character and education and not exactly a problem of lack or knowing whether we are beautiful or ugly. There are very ugly people who have fantastic inner beauty in such a way that they seem beautiful to us. Thank you Sandra for another great video. Love you.

I wrote a letter to each of my two children a few years ago (and gave them their letters) as it was not about me but how they've impacted my life as their mother, how proud I am of them in what they've accomplished, who've they've become as adults and encouraged them to follow their own path to happiness and fulfillment. I let them know I think of them each and every day even if we don't text, talk or write. It was a powerful lesson for me as like so many others, I never heard any of those words from my own parents and have felt my own lack of self confidence for decades! That poor lady who's bitterness and self doubt showed through with anger and aggression - I'm sure she's so grateful to your SIL and will turn her life around for a more fulfilling and happy life. Hi Sandra I have experienced a sad break up with a lifetime friend who has progressively become that angry woman in the book group. I know my friend had a childhood exactly like the angry woman in the book club. Outwardly she appeared to overcome her childhood traumas- but it always was there- and now that we are in our 70s she has become so angry and sarcastic she deliberately picked a fight to push me out of her life. Those first reflections to us about who we are do inform our sense of self in those formative years. I count myself very lucky that my mom often asked me “how does it feel to be so young and beautiful?” I poo pooed this at the time- now I am grateful for those words. And she always insisted I try on new school clothes for my dad- the one I’ve mentioned here because he too was from the Bronx. He would always smile and say just one word: “ Sharp!” I’m going to do the assignment you gave us tonight ❤

Yes it is a puzzle sometimes as to who we really are even some of us do not know the answer to that at times. There are times that I feel I know myself and other times I feel like a lost stranger, it is funny when you think of it. I would say if we don't know who we are how can anyone else? I was just pondering the same thoughts about my kids and how in general people don't really know us deeply. And really, it's not their responsibility to know us and figure us out. It's only our responsibility to know and understand ourselves. In a way it's a bit sad to me to know this especially as a mother. But it also supports the idea that we can only be reponsible for our own paths and our own growth.

I believe that you are a child only 12 years of your life and then we turn 18 years old and physically leave our parents homes , however very few of us leave our emotional experiences and trauma on that day as well . We tend to carry the childhood trauma with us through our lives into our relationships with our spouse , children , in-laws, bosses, friends, and the list goes on . One day we wake up and realize what we have wasted our energy and our life on . I so enjoy spending time with you as I watch your videos. Each of them feels like a gift as you share your wisdom and perspectives gained from your life experiences, and I hope as I put more decades behind me that I am as classy, graceful, and wise as you are!

When I was in my early 20's, I had a neighbor who would stop by to visit. She would take little jabs at me, and at my appearance. I honestly did not want her for a friend and wondered why she even came over. Then one day she told me about a time that she had wanted to participate in a pageant. But her mother said "Now you know you're not as good as those other little girls. " I could not believe her mother would say such a thing! I wondered what type of person would say that to her daughter. But now I understand...she was a person who probably was spoken to that way, and passed on that same behavior. It probably shaped this young woman's life.

Sandra, I don’t think my daughter really knows who I am either. I just hope she knows how much I love her. MANY times, we make think we know who someone really is and yet be entirely wrong. I seriously think that asking someone who they are is never a bad thing!!! I know for a fact that children learn what they live and when they become adults it’s never easy regardless of how good or bad they had it or think they had it during their adolescence. I am so happy your sister-in-law had the courage to speak up to the abusive woman in her book club while everyone else felt they had to just tolerate her behavior-she really did this woman a favor by challenging her to look at herself, perhaps for the first time ever. I fervently hope that this woman will become a more likable person because of your sister-in-law’s actions. 💝💝💝
