Glad you guys like the tip, it is hit or miss with what they have in stock. Look. ; ) Im famous!! Save all that dust!! small chips are what give your scape detail and that dust goes on your superglue gel, when you super glue gel wood to your rock to plants to rock or anything to rock the dust with the glue is what makes it look like a part of the rock. keep a ziploc bag for each rock when you work with the rock do it on something so you can save it in your baggie.

I've used rock from construction supply stores, great deals for the same rock without the massive markup, my shrimp tank has lava rock from a css. Another money saving tip, if you live in an area with usable rock, use native rocks. Right now, several of my aquariums are decorated with native shale from right here in Ohio, I bleach them to kill parasites, fungus and algae then rinse and have never had a problem. Our other native rock is limestone which I avoid because it slowly dissolves and makes the water hard.

Thanks for the great tip! Such great rock -- One thing to be careful about with stone from non-fish stores and from gardening places or landscaping is that sometimes it can have insecticide residue on it, so I'd be sure to wash and soak it well before popping it into tanks, or so I've been warned. Looks like a great haul!

😂😂😂 I’m so cheap, Lowe’s is already the only place I’d consider buying rocks. When I saw the prices of most sold for aquarium use, i said , “well I guess I just won’t have any rocks.” I’d already planned on only using rocks found on hikes or stuff from the hardware store. I was lucky and got Seiryu and Pagoda stone from the Lowe's deal. It was gorgeous! I just shopped Lifeguard Aquatics retail site, and they have a 10 gallon and 25 gallon set of Pagoda for sale. The 25 gallon is 1 large, 2 medium, and 2 small rocks. The 10 gallon set has 2 medium and 3 small. With shipping to my South Carolina home, that came to about $135 dollars. Amazon has the exact same items for about $84 shipped to my home. With free returns.

I have to share...I just got 250 lbs of black marble boulder for $0.31/lb. I highly recommend visiting your local building materials store, in my case Sepulveda

This is so amazing! Sadly I don't think these are sold at Lowe's in Canada. Might need to call the store to confirm...

Here is a huge bonus tip! I was at a drive thru two days ago and was ordering my coffee and donut. Mid order I noticed the entire landscaped property didn't have mulch. Instead in place of grass and mulch. It was all river rock in the best variety of sizes I've seen. All aquarium perfect sizes. As a passed a few other locations for the same business. 5 out of 6 were landscaped with the same river rock covering the ground. Anyone in the U.S.A. has one of these shops in their area. So it's not like there isn't enough to go around. I asked the manager and she laughed and said have at it. Take what you want. DUNKIN DONUTS
