Fun Fact: There is an actual, canonical, non petty reason they COULD NOT grant him the rank of Master. In order to obtain the rank of Jedi Master, a Jedi Knight must train a minimum of one Padawan till they pass the trials to become a Jedi Knight. Anakin's only Padawan was Banished before she could reach that point. Thus, he did not obtain the rank.
