What’s worse is once it gets sold, if it ever does, and the money gets settled, the government gets the money. So, the tax payers pay to maintain it, and they’re not getting their money back. It’s not gonna reduce everyone’s taxes or anything.

Just dock fees and basic maintenance alone would be at a minimum 2 million a year. The yacht must be powered up to maintain vital systems and climate control so that the interior does not become covered in mold and mildew. Insurance is very important, if fire broke out and other boats or infrastructure was damaged the government would be liable for all damages including environmental clean up and removal. They must maintain the yacht in perfect condition until final ownership is established, they are required to return seized assets in the exact same condition as when they were taken.

You do understand that one of the biggest advantages of keeping money in the US used to be the fact that unlike in authoritarian countries your money would be safe from arbitrary seizure? There are hundreds of billions of private Chinese investments in the US that will probably look at this and think am I next? America is rich because it's the worlds economic capital and one of the major reasons for that is investment safety and rule of law. Once that's gone, and now it is, international money will look elsewhere.

To run it easily over $20 mill - thats just to keep it ticking over in the condition it was seized - pending court actions of course - would be ball park figure of 10% of new cost. @@Grandizer8989 Misconception. All yachts are actually boats. They use displacement theory to stay afloat in water, therefore they are boats. There are other types of vessels which stay afloat in water that are not boats, but yachts are not these things. Catamarans are also boats. For example submarines are not actual boats. They can be called uboats which are not boats as they use ballast theory which derives from displacement theory. Infact even Swaths which blur the line between the 2 are infact boats as again, they are technically displacement theory vessels.
