Why did we choose a Land Rover Defender to travel the world overland???
We can't tell you how many times we've been asked this question. If you still have any doubt after watching this video we would be surprised...
Connecting with the Land Rover community around the world adds another element to this journey that cannot be explained until you've experienced it for yourself.
When you drive a Land Rover you are not just driving a car you are driving an iconic piece of history that brings with it an international extended family of passionate owners.
We wouldn't change it for the world!
If you enjoy our videos and if you would like to support our work, we have a PATREON account.
Become a PATRON and be part of the adventure.
Thank you very much.

I’m old school I owned a series 1 LWB station wagon 5 door 1956 107 inch model for 25 years, it was a Love/Hate relationship,for me LR died when they bought out the series 2, but now I’m a traitor to the cause, in 2019 I bought a Ford Ranger diesel ( wash my mouth out with soap and hang me out dry ). PS. I still get goosebumps when I see a series 1. 🇦🇺

Anton Kramer G’day, What I like best about the series 1 any fool including me could fix them in the field and get your self home, last year I bought a Ford Ranger mmm nice car all bell and whistles grrrrrrrr, If it shits it self your stuffed, call a tow truck I got rid of my LR in 1919 and went in to a Nissan Urvan, wow I could hear the radio had a heater that worked and dry when it rained, all up 2 Nissan Urvans, 4 Toyota’s HiAce. Best thing about my old Land-Rover was it was old and ugly I tend to like old and ugly -- probably why I married my misses!!

It’s great seeing the friendliness and enthusiasm of the Japanese Land Rover enthusiasts. It makes the idea of a road trip all the way out there so appealing. The blue of that TD5 that you are so keen on is Arles blue (Windjammer on the Discovery) and was used on late 80s and early 90s vehicles, and the painting g of the wheel arches and grille/light surrounds was specific to County models at the time, just in case you were considering it as a colour whenever yours needs a respray

There are so many things in life that require effort, seem absurdly difficult, and cause trouble where they need be none. Just about every meaningful thing we do is harder. These are precisely the things that engage us with life, community, and satisfaction. Why would anyone pick up a bow instead of a gun? Drive when they could fly? Make their own spaghetti sauce from scratch? Travel in a Defender rather than a Toyota? It's not a question that anyone who is engaged with life has to answer.

Bwa.... Part of the charms and look of a defender, in all honesty, I didn't missed the defender during this holiday. We traveled for five years with our defender, before that with a discovery III so yes we do know what's it like 😉. But now, with our Ford transit awd we can travel 100% camping free, have hot water, cooking at ease in or out door, shower, camping overnight either in the city or at a desolate place on a lake... All possible. And with an odd vehicle, you always attract people. Had this year as many people asking questions about Dexter as we had with Olli. There is not only a defender community, but also, a much larger, van travelers community. And yes they are as friendly and open as the defender ones 😉 Despite some advantages, traveling with a defender has a lot of disadvantages. Many you only come to see when you travel otherwise, but still free.
@leighdearle5965
@leighdearle5965 3 жыл бұрын
Our camper has all of the things your Transit has other than the inside shower 😉 The cool part is it's carried by a Defender not a Transit 😜 You're right the camping / overlanding community is a tight group but nothing is the same as travelling in a Land Rover. I've been travelling for the last 20 years in all forms of overland vehicles with the last 7 years in Defenders. Toyota Land Cruiser, camping car, vans, offroad trailers, even a Harley Davidson all over Australia... Come to think of it I even travelled and lived out of a 1970s Ford Transit for some time 😜 Nothing compares to the Land Rover community in fact nothing even comes close 😉
@penguin242
@penguin242 3 жыл бұрын
@@leighdearle5965 you don't need to tell me about the LR community. I drove for 20 years with series, Defenders, range classic and discovery. What I currently experienced is that van travelers have pretty much the same open mindset.

As you folks probably already know, once they stopped importing Defenders into the USA in ‘97 the prices started to climb. They are now worth as much as the new defender but can go for over two times that price. RHD models which are now legal to gray market import are still worth half of the new defender price even if untouched as in completely tired. The Nipponese are so wonderfully friendly and kind.

We find all of our music on Epidemic Sound. Sorry we don't list the individual songs anymore as it's very time consuming... Have you heard of the app Shazam? This listens and identifies music 😉

I love the Japanese. Such wonderful people. And they have good taste in cars. Are there no 90 models? I assume you are still on the Hokkaido island? I haven’t been there. I’ll have to go next time. @defender_don
