I LOVE watching his show! I laugh constantly & the contestants are hilarious & they don’t even know they are. Of course Groucho with his quick wit & expressions are priceless. It’s not only entertaining but educational, I like guessing the answers. Sure miss him, he was one of a kind.

Groucho was born in 1890 and died in 1977. It's amazing to think that in the lifetime of just one person, the U.S. went from horse drawn carriages, Indian tribes living in teepee, settlers, Mathew Brady photography-to atomic bombs, spaceships, colour tv, jet air craft, computers! He died without ever finding out that his brother Gummo had died monthes earlier.

I was curious as to the identity of the attractive dark-haired woman seen with Groucho in some of the video from his European vacation. Based on pictures in Google images, it would appear that the woman was Eden Hartford Marx, Groucho's third wife. They were married on 7/17/1954, just a few months before this episode of YBYL was recorded. Perhaps this holiday was really their honeymoon trip? (We know it had to be recorded after the end of the 1954 baseball season in late September of that year, because when he talks to Indra Devi and make an oblique reference to Yogi Berra, he mentions that he plays for a team that USED to win the pennant. The Yankees finished second to Cleveland that year.) When they were married, Eden was 24 and Groucho was 63. They were divorced in 1969 (which was when Erin Fleming came into Groucho's life as his companion and eventually caretaker of Groucho against the wishes of other members of the Marx family). Ms. Hartford passed away in 1983, 6 years after Groucho died.

Pretty darn clever of Groucho 👀 to get the sponsor, DeSoto to pay for his honeymoon by doing a few commercials there! Groucho went to Europe with his blushing bride Eden Hartford, Groucho's third wife. They were married on 7/17/54, a couple of months before this episode of 'YBYL' was aired. I hope they found happiness!

I wish Groucho had asked Indra Devi how she found her way from Latvia to India. That's quite a trek!
@groovydayboy7693 жыл бұрын
Devi's fascination with India began at 15 when she read a book by poet-philosopher Rabindranath Tagore and a yoga instruction book by Yogi Ramacharaka. In Berlin, she worked as an actor in The Blue Bird, touring Europe, and accepted a proposal of marriage from the banker Herman Bolm, on condition she could first go to India; he agreed and paid for the trip. She set off on 17 November 1927, crossing India from south to north, wearing a sari for the first time, sitting on the floor and eating with her fingers. She came back three months later, a changed woman, speaking only of India, and returned Bolm's engagement ring. She soon went back to India, selling her valuables to pay for the trip. There is a Wikipedia page devoted to Indra Devi. You can Goggle it or go here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indra_Devi

Actually, according to the Bible, the laws were handed down to Moses by God. But when you think about it, less than 700 laws to guide both the civil and religious life of the 12 tribes pales in comparison to the United States. If you go to the Library of Congress website, there is a page that deals with the fact that many people ask them how many Federal laws are there. The answer: they don't know. There are too many to count. And then add to that all the state laws, county laws, city and town and village laws and you have quite a contrast. It also means it is almost impossible to not break a law at some point. There is a civil liberties organization that estimates that the average American commits 2-3 felonies a day.

Not to be too picky, but Mike R is yet another one of those people who refuse to believe what the Civil War was all about. First of all, that is not the state flag of Florida. This is the state flag of Florida. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_Florida The flag that Mike R refers to was flown when Florida and other southern states seceded from the United States. the "northner agression" that Mike R refers to was a legal nation reunifying itself, unfortunately by force.
@gracious11116 жыл бұрын
@@390rambler The "War of Northern Aggression"?? When you use that name, you make the false claim that it was a war of choice started by the North. If Saddam Hussein were still alive, I am sure he would call the Iraq War "The War of American Aggression", and he would have a pretty good case for doing that. But the South? Not so much... And I will go further. Anyone who wears or displays a flag of rebellion, literal war against the United States, is a traitor. You are a traitor. You hate the United States. You are sorry that the Confederacy lost. You are either sorry that your country (the USA) did not lose a war, or you consider the "CSA" to be your country, and you are sorry it lost. Either way you are disloyal to the United States of America. In short, you are a traitor.
