Any hurricane (cyclone) that fails to turn up, is an excellent problem to have

As a contractor for the last 20 years I feel for you Adam. I too have had many cans of Dr. Pepper or Coke with lots of sawdust in them. Think of it as good fiber. You too always seem to smile and have fun. I know you don't show the bad stuff but that's okay. We are entertained. Keep smiling and sail on.

I put a Garhauer main sheet traveller on my 50 year old Spencer 35 several years ago. I love it. They make really excellent and reasonably priced hardware. They are located near San Diego ,California. A family owned business focused on high quality materials, design and craftsmanship. Definitely recommend Garhauer to anyone looking to upgrade boat hardware. Ever since I bought my boat in 2003, every hardware upgrade I've done has used their equipment; genoa sheet blocks, vang, etc. You two are making really good videos. Good story telling, beautiful pictures. Are you planning an Atlantic crossing any time soon?

So glad you missed the storm, and the haul-out was used productively. I know there are many sailing channels, but you do deserve more subscribers. You give the economical and real way to do what you are doing, and I love it - Many thanks.

Nice job guys! At least you didn’t have to worry about the hurricane smashing your boat! It will sail perfectly when you get going again. Love you both.

We were building a house in Raleigh NC (which is a good ways inland) when hurricane Floyd came to call. The locals _complained_ that the storm tracked west of Raleigh, sparing our fragile house frame! Never complain about a storm that doesn't come :) Karma has ways.

The one time you don’t take the precautions in a situation like this is usually when you get hit. (At least that’s how it worked for me twice🙃). Glad it turned out the way it did.

Big fan of Garhauer stuff. I broke two very expensive Harken travelers. I now have a Garhauer traveler, which is not only much better, also cheaper! Also have a Garhauer boomvang. They also made me a custom mast collar. They are very easy to work with. They are a family owned business and like I said I'm a fan.

My turn at being on the hard during an on again off again Hurricane Isaias. Eight weeks doing a complete bottom job down to the glass by myself... I'm Near Annapolis on the Chesapeake expecting 30-45 kt winds and 1-3 foot Storm Surge . But Who knows....Forecasters can not decide so, I'm just going to listen to "Riding the Storm Out"... The Joys of Sailing...Your New Traveler looks amazing and at the Right Price....Sweet!!

A terrific vid as always. I’m going to try that on my prop now I’m on the hard. Melbourne freezing and locked down. Can’t even visit the boat as is more than 5 klms from home.

If you didn’t have some boat work to do, hauling out for a storm that didn’t appear might have felt like a real pain in the wallet, but better to be safe than sorry it was surely cheaper than potentially loosing your home. Nice result with the traveller. A functional traveller is a great asset to sail trim giving you more lines to tangle you up and something else to adjust when bored!

So glad Khiara reminded silly old Adam that you don't have to cut through the whole board when you're cutting it and can do it from both sides and finish up the last part with a hand saw
@lorenwilson81284 жыл бұрын
You need a shop onshore with a band saw. That was a big job by hand.

I hope this doesn't taint your future decisions to properly secure before a Hurricane blow. You were fortunate this go 'round. Love you guys! Keep up the great work.

Your sawing and grinding the wood plank reminds me of similar job to get my new traveller base set up. I used a teak plank - expensive! - and basically just sanded it to the right curve of the deck. Took a full day of power sander at the dock with sand dust all over the place, but gradually, little by little I got to the right curve. This was after using my friend's home drill press to drill the holes for the SS bolts that went through the track, the teak base and the deck to finish the attaching. Kudos for sticking to it in the hot sun.

Good job guys! Keep chipping away at those tasks one at a time. Never look at it as a whole or you'll get discouraged... Sometimes,... progress inches itself forwards. No shame in that if you learn something new along the way.

I just watched all your episodes in the past few days as I have been in bed with a sore back. I just want to say 👋👋👋👍👍👍amazing. You seem to just be able to take what's thrown at you without too much stress and you are so suited as a couple and to your amazing new life. Keep it up 😁 also had you much sailing experience before you started?

You never have a band saw when you need one. The guide cut on either side was a good technique. Without that another technique is to drill a lot of holes along the shape. But the best fix would be a chain saw. So that reminds me, where I have a battery Ryobi chain saw in Aus I don’t one aboard. I must fix that now you have shown where one would be useful. One other option that would have been fast now that I think of it would have been a bushman saw, one that you can turn the blade a quarter turn. Keep smiling.

Glad to hear the storm fizzled! My wife and I decided we’d finally splurge, not risk having to throw out a fridge full of food, and get a generator (the 3000w portable quiet kind) and of course Isaias made a few mud puddles in our back yard lol. Go figure. On a side note is it normal to have so many prop issues? Seems like it’s something that’s always haunting you! We’re hopefully starting our boat search in the next few months and your experience is making me think I’ll be playing closer attention lol.

Look up on you tube Sailing Zatara. Last season they applied a new anti-foul from the U.s. that may be available. Like you they were locked down in New Zealand. Also the sailing channel Sailing Life, a funny kind of guy in Denmark just this last weekend used a product that claims up to 8 to 10 years before needing to reapply. Hope this helps

Hint for Adam - on making the curvature for the traveler - too late I know - turn the board up on the side, cross cut to the depth of the curve, but you were having problems with the battery so......maybe not
