Dear Mr. Ramsey, Your Core message to me is "Hope". Making $10K a year, divorced, and being a roomate. While listening to you on U-Tube, I sat down with a paper, pencil, my statements..."I can do this". And, I did.

Catherine, how are you doing now?
@catherineskis3 жыл бұрын
I am doing fabulously well! I bought a house when there were too many on the market and the banks wanted to get rid of them, $130K, I worked two jobs, the house is down to $90K. Yes, I had a roommate but I now only have one job, at the Veteran"s hospital, all the over time I want, and my car is paid off, a retirement plan, emergency fund, just like Dave said! I'm also saving to take a trip, in two years, to go to Germany!

John in Atlanta - I was in your shoes, except a little older (37). I was a Fed for 11 years. I had progressed to GS14, but wasn't happy. I'm a computer scientist who loves technical work. I was being pushed by management to be...management, which I never want to be. :) I crunched the numbers a thousand times, knowing I would be better off financially if I left, but I kept dragging my feet. The security (contrary to what Mr. Ramsey says...job security is real in the government) and pension were holding me back. It took me a while to pull the trigger, but I finally did it. I took a job with a contractor for $60k more per year. I couldn't be happier, and I now control my financial future to a greater extent. Only you can make the decision, but I'm super happy that I left! Good luck and godspeed!

Love is selfless it does not focus on self. We should value others above ourselves. The Bible says so. She shouldn’t be focusing on her worth. Instead, doing what’s best according to Gods word. What would be best for her ex according to Gods word is the answer. Love protects you. However, true love is selfless. Philippians 2:3-4 New International Version 3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit.(A) Rather, in humility value others above yourselves,(B) 4 not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.(C)

Great advice given to Angela. Both men have given her sound advice from a position of strength. Please grab hold of their courage Angela, even if you don’t have it yourself, and you push yourself to move forward on your own. This is where you need to set your heart aside and use your logic to save you from yourself. Make decisions that you would tell a dear friend to make. Look after YOU and let your ex (and brother) sort themselves out. They’re grown men. YOU come first. As Eleanor Roosevelt said about staring down fear and having courage, “You must do the thing you think you cannot do.”

@@ShepherdMinistry the bible also warns us, “Do not give what is holy to the dogs; nor cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces” (Matthew 7:6). The Bible has a lot of practical advice on avoiding toxic relationships. Being selfless in a marriage only works when both parties do it.

13:10 The woman who is getting a huge tax refund. I try to do my simple taxes every year on June 30. I double the numbers with 26 weeks of wages. That tells me a decent estimate of my refund or tax due and I can make needed adjustments. I do it again with at nine months and estimate the final quarter. It’s not perfect, but I get it close.

15% starting at 47 is not going to be enough for retirement. Even if he then takes all the savings on the house after 8 years and puts that in as well. He will lose out thanks to compound interest. I’d say at least 25% retirement and then throw the rest at the house

If he saves 15% of 130 000k for 20 years he will have a million saved up (assuming 8% interest) and a paid off mortgage. He will be better off than the vast majority.

In this episode he says for retirement not to put investments in lower risk/lower return rate avenues yet in other episodes he says for people over 60 to do just the opposite as you don't have as much time if the market goes down to recoup losses as the market returns.

Then dump the rest of your money in paying off house. When your in baby step 7(that’s when you pay off your house) max out retirement, invest the rest in non retirement brokerage account, spend and give 😊
