This is a great video and something I've been thinking about so much. Often I'll reach a spot knowing that theoretically my hand doesn't want to bet, but based on human vs. human it makes sense - great point about trying to think about how they react to certain bet sizes, rather than just 'this turn is 75%'.

That river bet with the KJ hand looks dumb without context but it's a next level line worth considering against thinking opponents
@tomcads160411 ай бұрын
I just came up with this line in a very similar spot yesterday against a reg (JT on Q9x monotone). Got a snap fold, so it def. works 😅
@darioikhthus990811 ай бұрын
Last hand on the river they often fold for 10% bet, I got folds in similar spots for 1bb in a 20bb pot. Calling with Ax with the A of spades, or K10, king spades they just fold river. Bigger bet to outfold the pocket pairs 55--77

In the AK hand you say that you expect villain's range to be very weak because he won't check sets on the turn with double flush draw. If that's the case then isn't his range capped and we should choose large sizings like in the 3rd hand? What am I missing?
@pugsnhogz11 ай бұрын
Maybe this means we accomplish the same thing with a smaller size in this case?
@slam2pan11 ай бұрын
so what should we do here with something like KQhh on the river?
@flowforrhythmsonics11 ай бұрын
Small block bet is definitely playing it safe but sometimes that´s a good thing. Also induces bluffs which is good.
@Ryan-ds5zc11 ай бұрын
It's funny because a lot of the plays you make here are actually solver-approved. Give the solver some credit! The A2s hand at the end is pure betting on this turn and also bluffs a lot on Q and J turns. The A8s hand on the JJ7 board is a pure bluff on the river in theory and the overbet sizing is theoretically approved--you should have a lot of Jx to value bet for this size, and A8s is basically the bottom of your range at this point so the SDV isn't important. The 77 hand on AA5K, the solver double barrel bluffs your hand some times, but it actually prefers an even smaller sizing of just b33. The solver is trying to accomplish the same thing you were trying to do--fold out basically all hands worse than an A or K--but it thinks that b33 is already big enough to do that.
@CarrotCornerPoker11 ай бұрын
The solver just accidentally gets them right. A broken clock is right twice a day and all that. It knows nothing of trueEV

I really like your content and I watch every video. Something that bothers me is that you usually show hands that you won, and it would be fun maybe to show "good moves bad outcome" - since it's a struggle to face a bad outcome and understand that it was actually a good move. Sometimes you show a move that is very likely to fail, but higher EV than a line that would've been better in thay specific case, and it would be fun to see the analysis of "good failures"
@CarrotCornerPoker11 ай бұрын
There are plenty of these too. I guess the interesting stuff has been getting through a lot lately but I 100% agree. I try not to be that guy that only shows winning hands as it comes across disingenuous and gives newer players a false idea of how the game works
@sos-tegno11 ай бұрын
05:00 but you (GTO) would never use the sizings OTT and OTR with a nutted hand... Players will pick up on that.
@pugsnhogz11 ай бұрын
Will they tho
@TimeHandler11 ай бұрын
You don't need to only have nutted hands to get folds from better, u have 7 high. Most people will assume you have something pretty good, if not nutted, and fold all their middling hands and bad hands, and the bottom end of their pretty good hands, which is probably enough. Nobody will react perfectly, and i doubt they're going to over-call very often, unless we're playing 2nl or something.

hey pete, i've learned so much for you and i'm thinking about signing up for poker coaching in the near future...i'm a bit concerned from these comments saying that you will never post ur graphs because your breakeven...is there any truth to this or are they hating due to their own failures?

I try not to engage with haters and trolls as they’re often just out to cause hurt and project their own issues onto the world. When the time comes that I do post a graph (more about that below) they’ll probably just claim that it’s fake any way. I have no interest in dealing with trolls. Any engagement gives them what they want. However Ill explain this fully if it’s making a minority of regular viewers doubt that I’m skilled enough at poker to offer the services I offer. I have played very little volume over the past few years. All of my time has gone into my business. I have now decided to grind a 200k-300k sample starting next month and throughout lots of 2024 and I will stream this volume transparently which will mean a lot more content on Twitch. The lack of graph is due to the fact that there has been a major lack of volume. I did have an older winning graph on my website from before I was full time coach and content creator which I took off as it was many years old. Unlike most people in the industry, and this is where the confusion originates from I think, I’m not a grinder or professional poker player. Running carrot corner, making content and coaching is my full time job. I have played less than 50k hands in the last few years and I don’t believe in posting small samples as they mean very little. In the next year or so I will have a graph of a decent sample size and am excited to prove these people wrong. Most importantly though people should be able to evaluate the quality of a coach’s game from what they say and how they play. I will provide a graph when I’ve played enough hands but that doesn’t mean that no one can have any idea of my level until that point! And yes, hating is inevitable in every comments section of every video and yes it usually comes from people who feel angry and inadequate. Note that these people never want to engage with any of my logic or plays but would rather jump to an extreme conclusion that I’m some sort of fraud who has somehow managed to convince thousands of people that he’s good at this game.
@Ohrami11 ай бұрын
The thing about poker and really any discipline that's based purely on logic, there is more-or-less a scientific approach to playing and what is or is not good and why. Just listen to his logic and try to find the flaws. Ask other coaches or players what's wrong with it. If his logic and reasoning is good, what's the problem with accepting him as a coach?

@@CarrotCornerPoker I think you are my favourite coach in terms of how your structure your thoughts. But i think any coach must be able to back it up with recent hands. Even if its you only grinding 12 hours on saturday and sunday. Would love to see your results.

@jarirepo117211 ай бұрын
While I'd love some mtt content myself, it's much better to focus either on cash or tournaments. Nevertheless, many of the concepts work for tournaments as well (true ev, what the field is really doing, is this node over / underbluffed, real life optimal bet sizing etc). You just have to think it a bit through yourself, which might be better in the longer run. Now... all I need is mental fortitude to play more again...
