Great vid. I always wonder how one finds problem frequencies...some are obvious but most are not, to me...what does one listen for?
@blackpranther4 жыл бұрын
This isn’t an area of expertise for me either. It’s very hard to say because it’s so subjective but I’m looking for overly resonant frequencies or literally anything that isn’t key to the character of the sound. If the sound still sounds like itself and sits well then leave everything else out...it’s just gives you more headroom later ✊🏾

Great explanation not only here but in all of your tutorials. Even with all of you tips, I still cannot get the sound I want and won't release anything until I get that sound. I work with loops and sometimes live bass. I don't know what else to do! Some of the drums with separate channels sound much better but I'm fighting with loops.
@blackpranther4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Is there anybody who has a sound similar to what you’re looking for?
@Jandcompany4 жыл бұрын
Yes. George Duke. Marcus Miller. Bob Baldwin just to name a fee.

Are you using their tracks as a reference while you mix?
@jiammusic46474 жыл бұрын
No.
@blackpranther4 жыл бұрын
That might be the problem. Assuming we understand that those are some of the greatest musicians of all time and no loop can replace they’re playing, we can do a lot to get things closer sonically by using a reference while you mix. Take a track that feels exactly how you want it to and bring it in to your reason session. Turn it down (it will probably be way too loud) And try to get your mix to have the same priorities. How loud is the kick? How is each instrument EQ’d? Where do you perceive the lead? How wide is it? What’s panned where? What do you here first? Second? Third? Even if you have crappy speakers or are mixing in headphones, you can still hear the differences more objectively because your track and the reference are coming out of the same audio environment✊🏾

Hi Samuel thanks for the video! Why don't you use Reason's ssl mixer instead of your template? Thanks!
@blackpranther5 жыл бұрын
That’s a good question. Mainly it’s because I can’t get as many bands of EQ and saturation isn’t part of the chain. I like to do all of my cleaning EQ with my template and my notching EQ with the SSL mixer. I also do my panning, hi/lo cut, and send effects from the SSL

Great video Samuel. Are those components you mentioned on the master or is it on each channel?
@blackpranther4 жыл бұрын
It’s been a while since I’ve watched this one but I generally do the cleaning EQs and placement Compression on each channel, the notching eq on the mixing board, and the compression/final eq on the master. Sidechaining is treated as a channel I bus out. Hope that answers your question! Thanks for watching ✊🏾
