When a Westside guy is telling you that straining is a brutal way to treat your body, you gotta listen!

I love that more westside guys are coming to podcast and clearing some things up. I’ve done conjugate and it worked well.

You’re either getting stronger or peaking for a meet. There is no off-season.

I’d add/say “stronger, bigger and/or more conditioned”

Interesting thing about the explosive lifters vs grinders. I've always been more explosive and I found that max effort never really drains me a lot. Maybe it's also because I'm weak as shit but hey.

Yeah I’m the same. I’ve actually made the most progress when I’ve done 2 ME movements on both days (squat + dead & bench + overhead). I’m pretty well conditioned so could use short rest periods without losing much (if anything) off the top number.

This is awesome. I have to reconcile this with JM who seems to prefer using his energy on more near max work vs speed work. Maybe there's a middle ground and still be able to recover.

I think JM landed on what he did because he thought that as long as a program followed the correct principals and the required effort was applied it would work and his was the simplest. I've heard him say that you don't need speed work but never heard him say it didn't work. I may be wrong on that though.

Not only might there be a middle ground, it's different for everyone, and you have to find what suits you. The ones that are great at something tend to know their body better

i know it's dumb but i can't help but think it would be fun to see these guys play some other sports once in a while. like nothing where they would get hurt but maybe some tennis or something.

Feeling like shit is different for equiped vs raw lifters. Equiped guys feel like shit they tighten this strap or use a different bench shirt, tighter briefs, firm up the wraps etc. Raw guy feels like shit it's going to be a long meet.
